A movie that, for me, deserves the academy recognition, by nominations: best picture, actor (Pryce), supporting actor (Hopkins - I can see him winning this), original screenplay and director (Meirelles was fabulous).

Jonathan Pryce has never been nominated for an Oscar before, the Best Actor race is stacked, but I can still see a surprise nomination.
Agreed, as much as I like both Sams in their respective roles they shared little screen time compared to Tim and Pryce. But I have my fingers crossed and hope that Pryce gets at least a nomination.

The photography of this movie is incredible. It gave the sensation of being intimistic to both popes.
The production (from costume to set design), the screenplay and the acting are all TOP NOTCH. Really really hope the Academy acknowledges this great movie!

@@raphaelbritto02 Because since Netflix already has Martin Scorsese for The Irishman and Noah Baumbach for Marriage Story, I find it hard to campaign for three directors. I hope I'm wrong.

12:05 I'm not sure about what is this situation Jonathan describes, but I think he is a little mistaken. What happened and, incidentally, we can find on UA-cam, was that, in 2010, Bergoglio was called as a witness by a kind of public-authorities commission (not his fellows cardinals), to give his testemony about what happened during the argentine Dirty War time and the kidnapping of fathers Jalics and Yorio. But yes, he is really focused, serious, grim, a bit bored and was interrogated for a couple of hours. The whole thing is divided in 12 parts/videos.

Anthony Hopkins should be a lock for his 2nd Oscar but instead its going to Pitt's lame ass performance. So bummed.
