    My best tip is to split your party in town and use some of them to talk to the wandering NPC's so they don't walk into the room you are looting, you can leave them in the dialogue screen and the NPC won't move at all

      @@MarksGameReviews just have your companions occupy the people around so no one is facing the person you want to rob.
      Remember that there is no penalty for getting caught sneaking, so trial and error your way to a dark broody corner. Most NPC's you won't even need any points in sneaking if you are strategic enough, have robbed the merchants in cyceal market this way.
      Then just whisk away, just a handful of points can net you upwards of 1000+ gold/NPC. Or that fancy new weapon upgrade, the pickpocketing weight/value limit is based on the original value of the item. Thats a really good point and was the reason I think that my characters started with an odd selection of equipment - I'd forgotten to alter the class before picking the skills!

  • @doctorlolchicken7478
    @doctorlolchicken7478 3 роки тому +36

    One tip I have: with Abilities, the section called Skills is where you should put most of your points. Also, I would only put 1 point in a Skill because the second point costs double but it does not get you anything useful early on.
    The Weapon abilities do not need points at the start. In fact, they are actually quite weak so you may want to wait until higher levels to specialize. Dual-wielding is an exception because it needs at least 2 points to be worth using. The best thing about Dual-wielding is that you can put stat bonuses on both weapons.
    Defensive abilities are also poor. In Classic mode you can even get away without using them. Armor Specialist is particularly bad because heavy armor is not that great until late game and by then you can craft armor with no move penalty.
    The Nasty Deeds abilities are generally poor. I would just pick up a companion to lock pick, and many chests have keys.
    The Personality abilities are also weak. Even Barter is not as good as it sounds. Charm is ok for rp, but not worth many points.
    In general you can get magical gear that boosts non-combat abilities, so rather than put points in them you can switch gear. Even better, have companions that specialize in Craft and Nasty Deeds. Companions all get the same xp, even if they are not used in combat.

    • @MarksGameReviews
      @MarksGameReviews  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, switching gear to get skill bonuses (like lock picking, or sneak) for specific situations was one of my favourite ways of managing the skills. Its good that I never really felt like I had enough skill points for everything I wanted - made me think hard about my choices :)

    @MarksGameReviews I just wanted to say a massive thanks for putting this video up!
    I'd watched Baldur's Gate 3 videos from Larian (from the first trailer, the live demo of the game at Pax East 2020 and onwards) and I still have great memories of playing Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance and Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2 on PS2 so I looked at Larian's previous games and what stopped me from trying Divinity: Original Sin was the turn based combat.
    After watching this I picked up Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition (in Aug 2022) and loved it, then moved on to Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition and completed that too shortly after Baldurs Gate 3 was released and I'm now 100+ hours into Baldurs Gate 3 and loving it.
    Huge thanks because if it wasn't for this video and another like it I would've dismissed these games because of the combat system which is now one of the things I love the most from Larian's games! 👏👏👏

    Wonderful guide. Tried playing the game years ago and quit because I got my butt handed to me. Hopefully this will help. I would have issued a warning to newcomers that the game DOES NOT hold your hand whatsoever. You seriously have to pay attention. It's like the Dark Souls of RPG's. Just do a little research and don't let your guard down and anybody should be fine though. I look forward to finally beating the game though.

    Take 2 levels in crafting and scientist, mock the first dead corpse for trusting statues to be materialistic (+1 crafting), and buy one item with +1 crafting (should easily find one from almost any npc selling bracers).
    Then combine magic needle and thread and collect every cloth scrap you can find. Combine leather/cloth scraps with magic needle and thread to make magical homemade chest armors that sell for several hundred gold even at level one.
    You can also take one point in bartering, and be egotistical for 2 easy bartering. Also can be found on etc boots.
    Donate homemade crap and stolen art to the traders in cyseal until you get the prime prices.
    Now make magic pot and quill and buy every magic scroll you find to create master level scrolls before first exiting cyseal.
    4 crafting ensures master level while crafting 5 s a gamble: may get novice but enables the most powerful master scrolls.
    In essence, you can get a few hail strike scrolls and meteor strike scrolls to quickly delete any group of enemies. Vendors will replenish random scrolls so you will never run out.
    Also, your crafted wands will have cool spells. So just cheat you way through cyseal and then you can respec and create a crafting mule out of wulgruff or something

    • @MarksGameReviews

      The combat damage works differently in the first game. You don't have separate magic and physical armour/damage and instead its based more on resistances. I might actually prefer the first games damage models, but otherwise they are very similar and both are excellent.

      Oh yes, absolutely! The inventory system, traps & lockpicking, magic items and to an extent combat are all very similar. And you will learn about "surfaces" in the DOS games - fire, water, acid, steam etc, and how they can be manipulated in the game; ie mostly how to set fire to enemies or yourself from standing in a flammable surface :D
      They are all 3 excellent games though.

      Select the items you want to buy (ie put them in the NPC's "barter" list on their side) and then click the scales at the top - it will add your gold to the value of the items you wish to buy. You can do this the other way round when you want to sell.

    Im at the beginning still, like it but, i find some parts a lil slow.
    Im at that village cyseal, and esch i try go out for a quest, i reach enemies that are too high level.
    Needing reload.
    Then it seems i need jist stay in that safer part, the village, and try find and advance quests to level up b4 going out of it.
    And it's a little aimless, slow.
    Idk.

      Have a good look around town and pick up some extra characters to make your party up to 4 members if you haven't already - there are a few to choose from. Then head out of the west gate, I think that is the easier direction to go. Good luck!

      @MarksGameReviews tks for reply, appreciate it.
      I do have 4 characters in party already, got the teleporter thing etc.
      West doesnt seem right?
      Its the port no?
      If i go north-west, mb thats what u mean, there's a battle i passed with orks, then a lone ork depressed, then traps which i cant get passed.
      Idk, just trying look around the village to advance things to level up more, i dknt find much more though.
      How u find dos2 flow and progression vs dos1?
      Cheers.

      @@jacquesjtheripper5922 Yeah the orks are the right direction. Try and use the fire barrels to your advantage whenever possible :) I remember finding it difficult to get out of Cyseal too, but you will soon be ok.
      DOS 2 is excellent as well and again there are parts where it seems a bit hard. Usually there are different directions you can take that are more level appropriate.

    How do you regain HP points? Is there a sleep option to regenerate?

    • @MarksGameReviews
      @MarksGameReviews  2 роки тому +2

      HP regen after battle could do with a rework in this. Food adds a little and works ok at first, but as you level up you have way too many hp for a bag of apples to heal. I found the best way was to just cast healing spells after combat, but you still have to wait for each spells cooldown to finish, which makes healing the whole party a bit tedious.

    The problem with this, you can get a mage, ranged and warrior early on. So how does one create a balanced early start with pure characters given that. It's impossible. I like balance as I can do more. As well should a mage use wants or a staff. Do mages require Armour? Or is Armour wasted on a mage in this game?

    • @MarksGameReviews
      @MarksGameReviews  2 роки тому +5

      Mages can use both staffs and wands, but you choose them mainly for the stats they offer. Don't put any points into the staffs/wands skills. Armour is vital for all classes, but this isn't like DnD - again, pick your armour for your magic users based on the stats it offers that will benefit their skills.

    is tis dnd rule like bg3

    • @MarksGameReviews
      @MarksGameReviews  Рік тому +1

      No it uses a very different rule system, especially for classes and magic. It's pretty much "class-free" as any character can level up any skill if you choose to spend your skill points that way when you level up. It's still usually best to specialise though, but lots of things are possible. Magic spells are also on a cooldown rather than the DnD spell slot system that requires rests to recover. I personally prefer the magic here.
      Now that said, with both this and BG3 being made by Larian Studios, the looting, crafting and exploring are very similar.

      @@lufasumafalu5069 Missing attacks does get a bit less frequent in BG3 as your characters level up and get better. It's quite similar here really. Both games are good and worth playing I think. A little tip (which can also work in BG3) - if you use an area-of-effect attack or spell (or arrow or thrown object) that targets an area of ground rather than enemy, that won't miss. The enemy might make a save against it, but it will hit.
