I play guitar and this is such a weird comment. Playing the guitar itself does take talent. But using high gain doesn't magically make you better. Its for a specific sound. Try playing thrash metal with no gain. You could be the most talented guitarist in the world and it still woulnd't sound like thrash metal. Also, Alvin is using cranked(everything turned to 10) Marshall 100 watt amps here. Which is the 1969 version of using high gain. Cranking an old marshall over drives the tubes, which creates the distorted sound you hear in this video. The lighter he hits the strings, the cleaner the sound. The harder he hits them, the harder the crunch. You comment should be something more like, "wow, I fucking love blues rock and Alvin is a God at it."
@@SpacemanXC I play guitar as well. Yes, I know he is exploiting the valves in his amp. I also known that heavy distortion/gain can disguise poor technique and mistakes. I'm simply saying that the sound is relatively clean compared to today and that there are no hiding places and his talent shines through.

Ric Lee is one underrated drummer. He does more on a 5 piece kit than these showboating hot shots of today do on an 11 piece. His technique is terrific. He is as good....if not better tan his contemporaries!!!!!!
The way I understand it guitarists/musicians then had to really listen and practice endlessly to get it right, like here. No going on the internet to catch the riffs desired. It's big reason the music then sounded so --- Genuine.
No word can describe this amazing genuine rock and roll giant that chance with other talented musicians the history of music in such a short time. Ten year after are gold history! Hi from Sweden!
Under rated? You must be joking! Back in the late 60's and early 70's AL was always up in the top five or so for NME poll for guitarists. TYA were massive,

surely many bands just hang their heads and walk away quietly after hearing the likes of Alvin Lee and ten years after. A better collection of artists has never been put together that I have ever heard in my long life. I was seventeen in the best year that I have ever witnessed in the history of music 1969, If you weren't there, you missed something great my friend.
What a drummer. I see Mr Lee during years 2000, without the group on a parisian suburban little stage . He was still great as many of his time. Wall of Marshall and all the repertory. Savage.
ive been a working stiff in the session industry side of music, around 50 year coming up, and iv worked with many many guitarists, the fellar had a ton of talent, he was tight, with a great element of expression, he is certainly a born caliber player, these types of guitarist are a rare encounter, sad he passed in 2013, rip mate
Guess my brain's not as damaged as I thought it might be after the stuff I ingested in the 70"s. I actually remembered the title "Going Home" before this clip appeared!!! I Know--one of their most famous and my favorite. Yesss!!
Bassist Leo Lyons said that occasionally he would hit his bass so hard that his fingers would bleed. At times he had to tape cardboard to his fingers in order to finish a performance.
