Years ago, it was blistering cold out. My furnace went out & my furnace guy couldn't come for a couple of days because he was so stacked up with work. I got out and bought a sleeping bag for cold weather. Put it in my bed and slept great. Now, when wind-chills go below zero, I put it in my bed under the blankets & quilts and am always toasty!

After taking a nice warm bath, instead of draining the tub immediately when I get out, I leave the water in the tub. Why let that heat go down the drain? It will also add some humidity to the air, which makes it feel warmer. After it's cooled completely, then I pull the plug.

One thing that helps me stay warm throughout the night is taking my hot water bottle to bed. It really works!

One idea is to eat in this cold time more calories...like oats...warm chocolate...thick soups, etc.
...and so we gets more warm inside...so we can
    Also support more the cold...

While on vacations, my Dad used to heat our motor home using your "tea candles & flower pot" method. It took the edge off those early spring/summer mornings. Put someplace safe on the floor, otherwise you're only warm from the waist up! LOL

i found a kinda simple one, blankets ofcourse help alot and also warm drinks/ alchohal. as alchohal will release body heat all around the body making you feel nice and warm and also some hot choco, tea, or coffee also does the trick great, also a great tip is after you finish baking somthing (like cookies or somthing) after you turn it off open it up a little and the heat will spread keeping you nice and toasty warm for a little.

The living area of my house is separated from the kitchen area. I noticed that my crock pot gives off a little heat as it slowly cooks. I moved the crock pot to where I am sitting doing my reading, living (i.e. on the table in the dining/living room). This way, I get to enjoy the heat that it gives off while it cheaply cooks my food. :)

Great idea! I have actually moved the crock pot outside in the summer, so my house WOULDN'T heat up.

Close the door in unused rooms and turn off heating vents to that room

The total amount of heat produced by the candles is going to be exactly the same regardless of setup. Convection doesn't produce any extra energy.

Anyone know how much those little electric heaters are? my mom and I live in a sub level apartment in indiana, last month the electric bill was 155 dollars and this month it's 200. And are those heaters safe if you have a pet?

    • @UltimateCheapskate
