  • Our friend David would turn 31 today, on April 9, 2021. But the nature had different plans. I'm thankful we could witness David's life in Haines, Alaska, when we visited him and Libby in September, 2020.
After traveling around the world and visiting 77 countries, David decided to settle down in Haines. Once Libby walked into the bar, he knew immediately, that's HER. The spark was there. David and Libby just started building their nest in Haines, called the Full Moon Cove. There were so many plans: connect Yukon and Haines, build little cottages for tourists, create partnership with other cities located on the same latitude, teach local kids Russian and German.
With this video I want to share with you Haines as it was before the horrific landslide happened on December 2nd, 2020. The landslide which took young lives of David and his neighbor and friend Jenae, and puppy Red. I want to share with you Haines which David fell in love with once he entered it's ground.
"John Muir came to Haines in 1879 and afterward advised young people not to come to our part of Alaska. He warned that they'd have to either stay or know that every other place they'd see for the rest of their lives would be a disappointment." This was underlined in the book by Heather Lende on David's bookshelf.
David found his home and I welcome you to experience it with us in memory of David Simmons, Jenae Larson, and Red.
P.S. Initially I planed to finish this video right after we came back, but for some reason, I decided to complete it after Christmas. The storyline changed. I couldn't find words to describe our trip, otherwise I would not be able to transfer this level of happiness we experienced there. That's why I keep it with music and videos only.

Thanks so much for posting this. I watched the whole thing, hoping to catch a glimpse of my 3 kids, Gordie, Ethan and Emily, and their "Haines family". I didn't see them in the video, but did in my memories of visiting them in Haines. (:

Hi, I had a question, after reading the comments, I’m sorry to hear about your loss, my condolences.
The question I have is, the hike you hiked up the mountain, is that a well marked trail? Is it easy to find?

Thank you! Yes, this hike is well marked, there are signs all the way. It’s called Mount Ripinsky Summit from Skyline Trailhead.
