    I worked at an Olds dealer in late 70s to early 80s. I was in charge of rust proofing them with Rusty Jones. Remember that? Olds was the king then. They ride like a dream and no useless O2 sensors to drive you nuts. Or dumb tire pressure monitors. They are force at and lazy people.

    I owned 4 , 81, 83, 84 and 85. The 85 was loaded with every available option for olds . Good mileage and all of the drove like a dream.

    Nice. I remember these as my parents bought Toros and 98s. They hated 86 downsizing.

    I owned this same car without the top,and grille. I bought it when I graduated high school in 1986. It was 1 year old and I drove,it until 1993. My interior was the same color and the same exterior paint. This brings back old memories. One of the best looking cars I’ve ever owned! I put 265,000 miles on her in 8 years. I only had to rebuild the transmission. The other repairs were minor.

      High five, one of these was my very first car, circa 1989. I took my driver's license test in it! (Picture parallel parking one of these beasts with people watching, modern kids. :) Mine didn't have the faux-Rolls-convertible package either; it had a brown vinyl landau roof. Same paint color, brown velour interior. I still miss those seats 30 years later. And the rest of the car too, but especially the seats.

    I would love to have one of these with the Goodwrench 5.7L 350DX Diesel. The DX was the bulletproof diesel engine. Unfortunately, by the time they finally come out with this engine; the motoring public was burned out on this sweet engine by then.

      I had a 1986 Toronado with the DX 5.7 Diesel. Sure do miss that car! About 30 mpg @ about $1.50 per gallon in 1990’s when I owned it. Was a tank and would go anywhere in deep snow! Also had a Boze sound system with auto reversing cassette player. Could push other cars up hill when stalled in snow with front bumper. No damage! Try that in a car these days! What a great car! Was a dream to drive!

    I have loved Tornados since they first came out in 1966. I was 6 years old at the time. And this car along with the Buick Riviera and Buick Wildcat captured my attention. All spectacular luxury cars. I owned a 1977 Olds Tornado for a few years. Wonderful wonderful car!!! But what I'd like to know is this specific car still available to buy? Amazing looking automobile.

    Whoever originally owned this car really REALLY wanted a Cadillac

    • @jayson657
      @jayson657 4 роки тому +1

      Tanner Greenwald this was a much better choice then a Cadillac at that time. Cadillac only offered the v8 4.1 HT boat anchor of an engine.

    • @Lincolntowncoupe
      @Lincolntowncoupe 4 роки тому +1

      @@jayson657 Fair point but I'm thinking most of the time even in 1984 most people who could afford a Cadillac didn't really care about those things. Kind of like people with vehicles like Range Rovers these days.

    • @jayson657
      @jayson657 4 роки тому

      Tanner Greenwald yeah ive heard for quite a few years that Range Rovers spent more time in the shop than on the road.

    OMG! That's my car. Well not really but, I owned one exactly like that except I had the tan leather seats. I was able to get over 350,000 miles from the original 307 v8 motor and whatever transmission came in that car. Probably could still be driving that car had it not been for the snow, salt, and bad roads in certain parts of Michigan. Frame rusted away from the body but that motor and transmission was still running good when I sold it to the junkyard.
