As you exit the roundabout here, the road narrows due to the roadworks. I always position myself in primary and move over to the right when exiting the roundabout. The reason you do this is to try and stop people overtaking. In this example, it didn't work. Best of all, the driver had to stop in a queue of traffic up ahead, making the overtake utterly pointless.

If you were further over to the left you wouldn’t have had to avoid the huge pothole therefore not end up in the middle of the lane and avoided the near miss . Not great road position to be honest

@@Gixer750pilot OK. So what happens when you proceed down the road to the narrowed section? Is it good cycling to wait until you are near there to move out to the right, or take primary nice and early so that you are already over the right hand side of the road, ready for the narrowed section?

@@CyclingSouthLincolnshire he would have been pass you safely by then and the next van would have been waiting , but the van was expecting to be further over not in the middle

@@Gixer750pilot Do you really think someone who has passed me so close is going to pass safely further down the road? The fact that he passed me at the point he did is enough to show how much of an impatient, poor driver he is. I ride across this roundabout and head straight to the middle of the road due to the narrowing every time. This is the first time someone has passed me there. When riding, you need to move over for obstructions (parked vehicles, cones, traffic islands etc.) nice and early to try and avoid being squeezed at the pinch point.

@@CyclingSouthLincolnshire I don’t think he was expecting you to be int he middle of the lane and when you hit the van you actually moved past half way . If you were 1m from the kerb he would have past you with plenty of room

@@Gixer750pilot He drove from behind me. He saw where I was. He didn't give a f**k and thought he would squeeze past me. Do you really think he would have given me the required room if I was 1m from the kerb? What's the point of being 1m from the kerb here when the road narrows ahead? I guess it's ok I could physically touch the van though eh?
