    Great guide. Executed a full axle swap flawlessly after watching. Thanks!

    Any suggestions on getting that axle out. I’ve been pulling hard.

      I had one that I just couldn't get out. I took the other side out and then used a hammer and punch to knock it out. The only thing holding the axle in is the snap ring, but sometimes they get rust or dirt behind them.

      gotta expand the snap ring and pull the axle at the same time

    Ya...what Ryan said below. You did not address how you got the axle out after it looked like you damn near threw your back out trying to yank it out. What did you do??

    • @canamsledder

      Just keep yanking! I did have one that I couldn't get out that way. I pulled the other side out and used a hammer and punch to knock it out.

    Do you do it the same way to change the boot at at the other end, or does the axle come apart on that end to? Just wondering because I'm going to have to get some more clamps if I have to take the inner boot off just to get to the outer boot.

    • @canamsledder
      @canamsledder  3 роки тому

      Both ends should be the same.

      Slide both boots off the end of the shaft that he removed the clip and cup from.

    My 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO EFI does not have the snap ring to remove the axle from the CV joint. Every video and instruction says the same thing as yours, but there is no recess, no snap ring. How in the world does this thing come apart?

    • @canamsledder
      @canamsledder  4 роки тому +1

      All the ones I've done have the snap ring. Here's a ling to an ATV forum. A couple smart guys on there that might be able to help you out. atvconnection.com/forums/

      @@canamsledder I guess some (2008 only?) have an internal split ring like the one on the end of the axle that locks it into the trans. Held axle in a vise and a couple good whacks with a brass punch to the inner race, right next to the axle, and it slid off. Funny that the Polaris Service manual, and every video and instruction I could find, showed that external snap ring in the recessed area. Thanks for your response.

      If it's the snap ring in the CV joint, I can't find that either.

    I had about six large steel balls falling out of mine I'm worried that is not correct.

    • @ChrisM-gj2uc
      @ChrisM-gj2uc 5 років тому +1

      Nope, not good. Your CV joint is shot. You can replace just the joint or the whole axle. It's way easier to replace the whole axle. I buy mine off ebay, American Axle if I remember right.

      It's really not that hard. Getting the axle out can be the only tough part.
