Luxembourg is another excellent recommendation; strikingly picturesque with the perfect blend of old and new built around stunning hills and viaducts. Free public transport is a nice bonus, so getting around the city and to other smaller towns in the country (such as Ettelbruck and Vianden) is much easier, although you'll still need to use your pass to cross borders on the train. Yes, it's expensive, but you can easily stay overnight in Metz (eastern France has good hotel prices generally) across the border, which is a quieter prettier version of Paris. TER trains are very frequent between the cities and take less than an hour, no reservations.

Awesome recommendation! We haven’t actually spent any time in Luxembourg but it’s on the list! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ☺️🙏🏼❤️

@@cjexplores you can either get the Belgian IC trains from Brussels or Leige, or if you're going from Germany, there's the Regional Express service (using CFL double deckers) from Koblenz (a city between Köln and Frankfurt). Neither use reservations and all three services are hourly (slow but scenic), so these are excellent ways to get into the country. Of course the frequent (like, 3 trains per hour) TER from Metz (which I actually prefer over Paris) is the reservation-free way to get in from France. If you prefer something fast, the TGV from Paris has the same reservation fee as domestic TGVs so that's a worthwhile option too.

@@cjexplores just completed an Interrail trip the week after I posted this; I can confirm my favourite city is Basel in Switzerland. Very well connected, has the cleanest station building I've ever seen and an impressive variety of architecture that blends old and new in the most picturesque way. Zurich and Luxembourg are also in my top three.

I’m not 100% sure but go to their website and they have a full list and maps of ferry routes included in the various passes 🙏🏼
