Congratulations 👌🏿. I’m considering one before end of year a Turbo S cause it’s so difficult to find info on the Turbo S guide, what should one look out for please? Thanks a lot🙏🏿
@@y0057 I have 2011 Turbo S. Just please make sure to get a PPI done by a Porsche shop. It’s well worth the couple hundred bucks. I haven’t had a problem with mine. I keep up with the maintenance and it’s been a problem free car with a couple of track days per year.
Er no, DFI still being used. Hx aside - who cares - .1 turbos feature spun cams and coolant line failure. Plus .2 are MUCH rarer. Slam dunk for 997.2 TT
@@deanhart8154 Coolant pipes weirdly don't seem to be an issue in the UK, but I did mine when the engine was out for something else and it was only £1200, a trivial sum for a performance car. Spun cam is rare, I don't personally know any owner who has experienced it but of course when it happens we see queries posted online. So yes, it does happen, but I've tracked mine all over the world, racking up 54000 miles and no issues so far. Again, it's just a case of budgeting £4000, which is not a lot in performance car terms. DFI are great cars but if one is a collector, then one will tend to focus on the GT engines, from a pedigree perspective. But all Turbos are special in their own way and I've tended to buy them all over the years, but only kept the 997.1. Which one do you have?
@@deanhart8154 Bingo! Its the last steel keyed, hydraulic steering and a 1/3 of the production production numbers which align with the 993 cars in terms of production
Nice to meet a fellow 997.2TT manual owner! 😎👍 I hear good things about ByDesign. Mine was built by AIM Performance, tuned by Emre by ES Motors, runs methanol, and makes a little over 1000+bhp at the crank. It's a beast! 😁
Amazing Video. Just a coorection on the cup holder of the 996. There are two of them. if you push out the cup holder on top of the center, you will get another cup holder :-).
Beautiful car....but I think we all know the manual is the collectable one (the first PDK's will age like tiptronic's). Preference goes to the .1 myself, though there were considerably less .2 turbo's made. But that Metzger engine..., and perhaps I prefer (slightly) the back lights.
I dont get where reviewers get this "no lag".. i have a 997 turbo - there is certainly very noticeable lag until you hit 3k+. I think they all just regurgitate what others say.
This was shot sometime around the middle of May if my memory doesn’t fail me. Congrats on the car, absolutely beautiful example! Porsche Ontario has been finding some hidden gems for their classic department
Thanks! It was cool to find this video after the purchase, I had no idea. Nice video, great review! Looking forward to some enjoyable weekends in this beauty!
Heads up, the rear wing is the Factory Aero Kit wing, a Porsche part, but Porsche of Carlsbad (original selling dealer) believes this was deed later. This wing is fixed, not operable like the stock wing. I’ve bought a stock wing and rear trunk lid to bring it back to stock. Pending the swap and paint.
@@gregs8685I just found out that's an aftermarket TechArt Type I 1 wing, because the Aero Kit is only available for 991 and 992 as far as I know, and when I Googled 997 Aero Kit it didn't show up.
Mercedes-Benz has exhaust ports that are square and in no way connected to the actual exhaust, just a plastic trim piece to change the appearance of the exhaust. Many manufacturer's including Porsche today, do this, that is what I was referring to.
He says that the side vents provide the “necessary cooling air to the engine” when in fact these vents provide the air to the turbos. The rear grille on top of the engine provides the naturally aspirated air to the engine.
Side vents provide air to the intercoolers (not turbos) with the air exit through the rear bumper side vents. These are not for engine cooling as mentioned. Air intake for the car is from the rear deck lid vent.

I have a 997.2 Turbo S. It’s the most exhilarating car I’ve ever driven.
They are incredibly fast, and when that turbo kicks in it really is a hyperspace experience.
I can imagine.
I had a 2001 996 Turbo for 13 years. It was an F-18 Hornet on wheels
I can just imagine what the 997.2 is like..Youch.
Well… try a newer turbo s :)
I have a 2012. It's brutal. Bought it yesterday
Brutal in a good way?

Thanks for the review, I believe the real collectibles are the ones with Mezger engine as it is something we will never see again on a street car.
I’m not familiar, I’ll have to look that up. Thanks for watching!
yup... I stopped watching at this point.

I have one, and I'm happy with it, but I'm no race driver- glad to hear it is what I think it is!
It is a brilliant car, defiantly something to hold on to!
Great video man!
Much appreciated mate, glad you liked it!

They did sell some 997.2 manuals. They are rare and expensive though.
Didn't know that, thank you for sharing!

I agree, the manual will always be more collectible, unless Porsche randomly decides to gives us a manual Turbo again which is unlikely…
Pdk is the way forward for me to be honest...
Does the rear wing of the aero kit really extend at speed?
I believe it is supposed to, but I leave it to the Porsche community on here to confirm!
It does! :-)
The aerokit rear spoiler does not. Both parts are fixed. @@carcaveofficial

I’ve also removed the tint from the tail lights and the black vinyl on the roof. 🤩
Is that an aftermarket wing? If so, what's the brand?
I believe it was a factory wing
It is the optional Aerokit spoiler (or a very good aftermarket copy) that does not raise/lower like the standard one.

996 has 2 cup holders. Just pull it out further. That example has the fixed rear wing. Carbon pack was an option. 997.1 also had vtg turbo chargers
I did not know it had two, must not have noticed thanks for the correction!

Indeed!
I don’t think all of that that is factory carbon fibre in the one interior.
I didn't think so either, but they insisted that it was all factory. Who knows.
You do know that's not the Turbo spoiler right?
this is the factory aerokit (front and rearspoiler)
