Building a Prevue Pet Parrot Playstand for Gizmo | Gizmo the Grey Bird

- In this video we build Gizmo a Prevue Pet Parrot Playstand as he has shown confidence to new toys and objects over the last few months, and we think he is ready to try it out.
Gizmo has been using the money he earns from his generous supporters to buy himself new items to engage and play with like this playstand. All donations and gifts go directly to Gizmo or to other birds in need.
We are so happy how this build went and Gizmo is even more excited as he has the opportunity to be on new objects and is able to move around the house more as we can move his playstand anywhere.

Gizmo looked so happy to be on his play perch. His previous parents were cruel to keep him toyless and locked in his cage for years. I am glad that Gizmo is now living his best life.

@@gizmothegreybird Not just the work and the mess, although they are formidable! Also the commitment in time - African Greys like Gizmo can live up to 60 YEARS in captivity! That's like having a human child's worth of commitment to a pet! My good boy Aaron was a Maltese/Pomeranian mix and he lived 18 years, the equivalent of being over 100 years as a human, and that's old for a dog.
I honestly wouldn't have the stamina to be a Gizmo parent, and I admire the heck out of you guys for bringing this magical guy out of his 16 years of confinement and bringing him into the light and the love of your family! My 7 year old son loves when Gizmo sings Who Let the Birds Out and he sings along with him here at home. He also now likes to pretend to be "Flit" the African Grey and perches around the house, lol.
I am so glad Gizmo found you guys, whoever the pigs wear that kept him in a cage for 14 years should be in a cage for 14 years
I love how you respect Gizmo's pace and will. That's true love. He's definitely a lucky boy.

I’ve seen someone use large sheets of white paper on the bottom of cages or perches like these, maybe it’s the papers the florists use to wrap flowers in, think they might be. Would be perfect for the new perch! The 60 x 90cm bed pads also work great, but make a whole lot more garbage for the landfill, those papers can be composted! Just a thought… 🤗
Yes!!! We actually were talking about the flower roll paper would be incredibly perfect for these. We are also looking to see if we can create a product for cages that are landfill and environmentally safe
I like to use shelf liner for my grey's play stand! I can suck up the trash with vacuum, then just pull up the liner and wipe it down at the sink
He's doing so well!!!!!! Absolutely amazing just how quick he stepped onto something so new and so LARGE that he might understandably be afraid of. Great job you guys.

This was great to watch! I cannot get over how naturally Gizmo interacts and participates in conversations with both of you. Each time I see him out and moving around and just being part of your family, I remember you mentioning how he'd been caged for 16 years. I make my own by collecting fallen eucalyptus branches after storms and wiring and cable-tying them together. They look like a tree and the birds love them. ❤ Great vid! Lovely to see Giz branching out.
Yes we would love to get one of those soon as they really are beautiful and so much fun for the birds.
I am so jealous I love gizmo and he is just an amazing bird so intelligent and I saw how he just went on his new play stand. I just bought my quaker parrot a beautiful place stand all PVC I hung his toys on it and robes so he’s familiar with these things and he is so terrified of this if you can give me any advice on how to entice him to have a wonderful time I would greatly appreciate it❤
Hi Phyllis,
The best thing you can do is show your bird that it is safe. Bring it in the same room as him and you interact with it in from of him each day. And slowly start moving it closer each day near his cage. Always let your bird make the first moves. When he is curious to touch it have his favourite treat ready to give him on it.
We made a fun atom for our Jenday and it took her about 2 weeks to warm up to it and once she realized it was safe she was all over it!

Aww thank you. We actually bought them from a home goods store. The birds love them too as we have many bites out of them now haha😅

I’ve heard…and correct me if I’m wrong…that mirrors are a bad idea for birds. Something about making them hormonal
Mirrors can cause hormonal issues if in view for too long, but he can have his occasional cute moments seeing himself ❤
