    This is an excellent design!!! My dad made one out of metal when we lived on our orchard and it was great. He could move it around the rows of trees by hand, or hook it up to the tractor to move it a long way. I must say this design with the fancy ramp that keeps chickens up high is just so clever and I appreciate that so much!!

    These are a great design for chickens if you can't let them out to roam around. My dad built a smaller version of this when I was a kid for our guinea pigs. We turned my daughter's old cubby into our chicken house. I built a ladder type perch and cut a whole in the side for the chickens to enter and we have a large run coming off the side. It also has sliding windows with perspex which I covered over with chicken wire so in summer they can be opened and shut in winter. My partner got large plastic drums which we use as nesting boxes as I can take them out and hose them to clean. We let our chickens out every day to roam around our yard as our dogs don't bother them. Our Border Collie just likes to round them up at night and get them back in their coop. It's great having fresh eggs 🍳. xx

List: home birth, cloth diapering, home renovation, cast iron skillet, sourdough starter, baby wearing (though I already had plans to do that. I love this design, the only thing I would urge you to modify is the screen door. Don't get rid of it, but please change the screen for hardware cloth as predators would tear through that in a heartbeat and kill your entire flock. :( I would hate for that to happen to you, but other than that, I love this design! We are building a chicken tractor similar in style to this! :D Chickens are the best! ^_^

    How have your chickens done in the cold so far? Green Willow recommends this for 20 degrees or higher. We love the design but are in Ohio where it gets colder. One idea we had was to build a floor where the screen floor is in the coop. Insulate with shavings. ?

      @rfoehn5215 5 років тому

      @ EmilyElizabethMusic, I can appreciate your desire, but at some point, we all WANT something we just shouldn't have... yet. Best to wait until you have an appropriate property, properly equipped to safely house your poultry and other livestock. It seems too many people impatiently "put the cart before the horse" and then end up having to learn the hard way... and often end up feeding their flock to the local predators, instead of collecting eggs.
