A movie with "zombie-vampires" a gang of useless characters and void of any coherency, sounds like a DREAM! www.phelous.com Originally released December 8, 2010
I watched the movie with a friend and I was able to predict every little single thing, when it got to the ending twist he asked me if I had already seen it and I told him “no, but Italian movies are always insane like that.”
I'm sure a lot of people developed a dark sense of humor in the Cold War, with the threat of nuclear war looming over everyone's heads for literal decades.
Riddled with continuity errors, logical inconsistency, a stupid dream ending, and word salad dubbing, but I'll always love this movie for introducing the "NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY" joke.
Sometimes I think I’m the only human alive who remembers “20 Minute Workout,” a soft-core porn cable TV show that featured erotic aerobics. 80s era movie makers used it a lot, and internet reviewers are universally puzzled as to why so many elderly movies have aerotics in them.
I love the "THE NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY...." joke (I just love that music sting that comes with it) but wish I could find the exact song used for that part. Apparerntly the film's soundtrack is on UA-cam, but not that exact bit. Anyway, that joke and Ninja Surgeon are probably the best things to come out of this movie.
I know this video was made forever ago, but I just wanted to tell you that you are hilarious. I've binge-watched nearly all your horror movie reviews and they are unmatched in terms of wit and humour.
I've actually always kind of liked this movie BECAUSE it's just so stupid and mixed up. My DVD of it has a subtitled interview with the Italian director who basically says the studio interfered with what he wanted to do and what they ended up with was neither vampire nor zombie. It's still fun to just see how bad it is. :) I also love, sometimes, watching it then restarting like it's a really bad time loop thing (not as bad as "Triangle" but still bad). ;)
I watched all of your Bootleg Zones before tackling your movie playlist, it's nice to finally know where "the nightmare becomes reality..." comes from. :p
Another tidbit, the same guy that overdubs Major Holmes voice is Edward Mannix, who did the dubbing for Robert Kerman's character Professor Harold Monroe in Cannibal Holocaust and Kermans character in Cannibal Ferox. Actually he did tons of dubbing for Italian horror and exploitation
It's a interesting idea. It's a prophetic dream. And then it happens. But not so good in making it, in parts. It's more like the intro episode of a TV show.
"But, Donahue, we have no planes!" Because, of course, it would be totally out of the question to call in air support from an airbase elsewhere in the country. That would just be silly, right?
Ah, it is so nice to look through Phelan's complete works and discover all the little jewels. What I like most about this review are the moments when he is so annoyed by the nonsense of the plot that he doesn't put any more energy into the prank. The part with "Donahue" - "outta you" - "Superman" ( 9:30 ) is hilarious. So good.
"we have no planes" Oh sure no planes, not like you could contact an allied military who does and tell them how to make the gas? Oh no that wouldn't make any sense would it...
This fuckin movie... I remember watching this when I was in the Marines. Came in a horror pack. Hell of the living dead. The murders at the Manchester Morgue. Death Day and Some movie about the body in a German house.
yeah, sounds like the kinda thing Phelous at least would recomend and Cinema Snob would go out of his way to not recommend it "but, on the other hand, the soundtrack is fantastic" or some such like that. (i.e. he's actually recommending it)
The lip syncing in this movie is awfully good for a dub. Did they write the English dialogue based on mouth movement instead of actually translating the script?
So basically, he had a premonition nightmare and it is about to become reality. My guess is that the main guy could have used his knowledge gained to earn more people and plan better? Or to tell him he’s doomed.
It’s always a fun day or week when you marathon Phelous’ reviews all day🥳 Also my fave part has to be when 'Darth Vader' looks at the camera and THEN Phelous recognises him!🤣 This movie is a paradox sandwich with zombie pickles 27.7.22
Also, I swear this movie was dubbed by the same people that dubbed Clones of Bruce Lee. A few voices are familiar, like the main character's boss is the same guy that dubbed the evil scientist in Clones of Bruce Lee.
So this is where we got "The Nightmare becomes reality" from! I notice that some movies try to dub over footage by using different words to make the lip movement synch up, which most often is impossible to do without making it sound really stupid. Do Western viewers really react so bad to flappy lip movement?
You know... I can be pretty forgiving of some English-dubbed Italian films. I mean I loved Spaghetti westerns, and my appreciation for Italian horror films has been growing a lot (thank you Brad Jones). But this film... oh wow is this film lame and horrible dubbed. I mean were the post-production people like "Is that English sentence correct?" "Eh, close enough."
I think they translate the script using whatever method they used to use to translate complex electronics instructions or any kind of furniture/toy assembly instructions. :) In other words they hire a third grader and give them a tourists phrasebook. :)
Pop2323pop I think, from what I've heard that at least some of them aren't actually English speakers. They learn HOW to the say the lines but have no idea what the words actually mean. As for the rest, I can only assume they're not getting paid enough to care if what they're saying makes sense or not. :)
One of the dubbing voices, Ted Rusoff was nice enough to watch the beginning of the film with me at my house about a year before he died. He identified all the other dubbing voices and praised their efforts, especially considering that they did all the work on the film in under a week (all that the budget would allow)!
This is one of my favorite Phelous reviews, right next to Birdemic and Five Across the Eyes. 0:48- Was the main character played by a robot or something? Maybe I should take Davin Felth's word on it. 9:01- Well, I guess that's to be expected by a general of the Umbrella Corporation army, if that logo on one of the officer's left soldier of his uniform is to be believed. Thanks for putting in the Ghostbusters theme. It helps remind me that there are much better movies out there. I have that same Darth Vader voice changing helmet in my Star Wars collection.
Nightmare City is pretty entertaining. Its not the best movie obviously but for a low budget Italian film from the early 80s, its totally worth a watch. The soundtrack is awesome. I hear Tom Savini is going to remake this, i don't know if its still in the works but it was a year ago.
Wow, one of the other reviews I watched on Blip last month. Alright, I'll watch it again. But only because "The Nightmare Became Reality" is still one of my favorite jokes on this show. Well that and this review is hilarious. But just those two reasons!
Holy crap, I saw this at a drive in as a kid, but it was called CIty of the Walking Dead at the time. It sucked so bad. THANK YOU for reviewing this! (It still sucks.)
+Gaming Foxy Nah, the Ghouls were cooler and more threatening than the 'zombies' in this movie, but they are kind of similar. Aside from the fact that there are some sane ghouls in Fallout that still act like humans.
14:45 Too be fair, I was pretty creeped out in Resident Evil 7 when I heard a character (who shall remain nameless to avoid spoilers) humming "Go Tell Aunt Rhody."
13:48 Glad we're on the same page, Phelous. As soon as that thing popped up on screen, I thought: "Heh. That kinda looks like...". Then you finished my thought for me. 👍
I'm surprised you didn't do a nod to L4D2's Dark Carnival roller coaster at the end, there. I know I've gotten my ass handed to me there by a couple of zombies/mutants/vampires (hey, it depends on the mod)
Me: "So, what did you think of Star Wars 7?" Star Wars Fan: "It sucked! All it did was copy Episode 4!" Me: "Oh. Well, did you like Episode 8?" Star Wars Fan: "It sucked! It was different from the other movies and betrayed the Star Wars lore!" Me: "Oh. So, did you hate Episode 9?" Star Wars Fan: "No, it was awesome! Bringing back Palpatine was such an original idea that saved the franchise!" THE NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY
You know your film had issues, when Phelous cutting in a clip of his Darth Vader bust all bloody, made me think it was also part of the movie. Also, at 11:28, I thought for sure that was Phelous again, randomly by some lady's pool.
I love how Phelous can't tell it's Darth Vader until Vader turns away from him to look at the camera
It’s so funny 🤣
Seriously, though, that musical sting with "The Nightmare Becomes Reality!" would make a great intro to a boss battle.
Noel Goetowski ohh hell yes it would . Like fighting a giant made out of merged zombie corpses
I'm going to use it as my ring tone. Not kidding. I'll set it to business contacts.
When I first heard it, I thought it was from Castlevania or anything like that.
Wait is this the ORIGIN of that gag?!😜
@@gracekim25 yes
7:44 "Be very careful, any slight movement might set it off."
**Super Mario Bros 2 cover falls over**
Really happy that you pointed that out. This being Phelous, I get the feeling that was scripted.
Speaking of which, the episode card had a reference to SMB2's ending.
Thank you for pointing that out XD if he kept it in it must be intentional :D
I watched the movie with a friend and I was able to predict every little single thing, when it got to the ending twist he asked me if I had already seen it and I told him “no, but Italian movies are always insane like that.”

"HOPE THIS IS NOT CHRIS' BLOOD!"
What? What is this?
"Maybe a war's broken out! Ha ha!"
Yeah, real funny in THE MIDDLE OF THE COLD WAR.
+Cybermat47 they can't be a war human killing each other is a paradox
I'm sure a lot of people developed a dark sense of humor in the Cold War, with the threat of nuclear war looming over everyone's heads for literal decades.
the cold war isn't a thing it was the us doing crimes around the world
This movie is set in the Cold War?
@@redvelvetunderground what?! Are you high?😅 the Cold War DID happen, did you NOT LEARN history?! Stop acting ignorant
Riddled with continuity errors, logical inconsistency, a stupid dream ending, and word salad dubbing, but I'll always love this movie for introducing the "NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY" joke.
Nagoragama Perhaps the real problem is the dubbing.
In the "Paradox" scene... The rightmost officer has an Umbrella corporation logo on his shoulder! They're infected with the T-Virus! *music sting*
I was just going to comment that.
I caught that too, and it has everyone's incompetence in this movie make a lot of sense.
He's a paradox sandwich!
Sometimes I think I’m the only human alive who remembers “20 Minute Workout,” a soft-core porn cable TV show that featured erotic aerobics. 80s era movie makers used it a lot, and internet reviewers are universally puzzled as to why so many elderly movies have aerotics in them.

I mean, if the whole movie is meant to be a dream, it kinda fits. Most dreams I have are nonsensical and random, with very few hints of actual logic.
@@richardball5843 Yeah, but then it ends with it actually happening so it's not just a dream its a dream of the future. :)
I watched all of your Bootleg Zones before tackling your movie playlist, it's nice to finally know where "the nightmare becomes reality..." comes from. :p
The Ghostbusters reference was very appropriate.

The lead actor kinda looks like Daniel Stern.
I actually thought Phelous put a soundtrack over the aerobics sessions until I realised that was actually the music playing.
Thanks to you I now use 'The Nightmare Becomes Reality' in regular conversation.
I love it.
Throwing the dummy off the helicopter onto the roller coaster was too funny
It's a interesting idea. It's a prophetic dream. And then it happens. But not so good in making it, in parts.

But you can never finish watching the movie because when you get to the end THE NIGHTMARE BECOMES REALITY and you have to restart
The infamous “The Nightmare Becomes Reality” joke. 🤣💀
I watch this whenever I get depressed. Thank you Phelous.
The lip syncing in this movie is awfully good for a dub. Did they write the English dialogue based on mouth movement instead of actually translating the script?
Y'know, all of this would never have happened if Clu Gulager was in charge of that airport's security.
Or if a young boy whose parents are going through a divorce had stolen a plane.

Imagine Return of the King having this ending during the fade-to-black on Mt. Doom.

Also, I swear this movie was dubbed by the same people that dubbed Clones of Bruce Lee. A few voices are familiar, like the main character's boss is the same guy that dubbed the evil scientist in Clones of Bruce Lee.
