I have 2 04's one's a limited with a 4" lift with just over 100k and the other is an overland with the HO that has 178k. The HO has incredible power, even at that mileage! both have had lots of work done to them. I got the overland on a really good deal ($1500) misfire on #8. turned out to be a broken intake valve spring. Previous owner had no idea and neither did I. after throwing parts at it to no fix. Finally did a compression check and bingo found the problem. PIA to fix that. But it's running like a champ now. both vehicles are for sale.
@watso64 Thanks for the kind words. I really think the Overland can keep up with the Hemi no problem. It does take off quicker, that's for sure. All of the older Jeeps (93-04) are the most solid SUV's out there. The Overland is mine and the Laredo is my dad's. My parents have had 3 other Jeeps (93,97,01) all with the 4.0. You really can't beat the durability of that engine. Since I grew up on the older Jeeps, I really wanted one with the 4.7 V8. I get about 15MPG city. Overland FTW
One year later and I have to add this. I installed some solid lash adjusters along with a set of HO cams, an HO air cleaner assembly and an SCT tune. Big improvement by all however the lash adjusters made the biggest difference in performance, in mid range and especially in top end. No more cold start clatter also.
@jujitsustudent I believe the 02 Overlands came with leather and suede if I'm not mistaken. I love these seats too. They're so comfortable and plush. It's like they conform to your body. All Overland seating is like that
My brother and I compared our Jeeps and came to a mutual agreement! Mine is a 2004 Overland ( Midnight blue pearl) and his is a 2007 Laredo (Midnight blue pearl) Overland perks over 2007 Laredo: more luxurious, better interior seating, more powerful engine, better hill climb in same mode ( 4 low) better headlights, "sleeker" looking. Overland CONS over 2007 Laredo : more interior noise on highway, Laredo was better on gas ( even with a 2 inch lift and 36" tires and roof rack)
@satchboogyfan I agree the Laredo could use some chrome pieces here and there. I already have a Flowmaster exhaust on the Overland. Ordered a chip the other day. I think stock vs stock, the 4.7 could run with the Hemi. I've driven both and I like the feel of my Overland better. Throttle responce is immediate in the Overland where in the Hemi there's a delay due to the MDS. With the exhaust and chip (maybe a cai down the road), I have no doubt my 4.7 HO will outrun the Hemi
I'm on my 8th WJ (this one being the final). It's an overland with the H.O. couldn't pass it up. Going to do the 242HD transfer case swap, lift it, replace front fenders, rock sliders, engine tranny tune up... Etc etc.
@rennicko Thanks man!! Both are great trucks,as for engines i still like my 4.7 HO. Like i said, the Hemi has major throttle delay off the line and when crusing. That really takes away from the fun of driving something with a lot of power. Since you have the V8 WJ, you know that the throttle response for that motor is amazing. The gas is very touchy and the truck really twists off the line. Yes, the Hemi has more power, but I think the 4.7 is more fun to drive and can keep up with the Hemi
that is a damn nice overland. I have an 04 limited but I look at it like an overland because I have the H.O. and the factory nav. you can check out an acceleration vid I posted if you want. Do you ever plan to put exhaust on yours or do any other mods?
I have to disagree with you on the cons, my Overland is much more quiet than my dad's 2010 Laredo in the city and on the highway. Maybe it's because of the infamous "Hemi tick" from the MDS. And gas mileage is about the same in the city but my dad can get maybe 1 or 2 more MPG highway. Personally, the only thing I think my dad's WK is better at is cornering, much less body roll than my Overland. Great comparison though!!
@kwtblack2 This model has the Hemi with MDS which shuts down 4 cylinders when crusing. It does help with MPG but theres a big throttle delay if you floor it from say 40mph. Average MPG is 15.0 but it can get about 22-24 on the highway.
@drippinblood28 I agree. Could be because the WJ is my truck, but nevermind that. The WJ has 265hp and the WK has 357, but the WK weighs about 300-500lbs more. After driving both, I can honestly say the WJ is a better truck...More solid and overall fun to drive. Plan to put a Flowmaster on the WJ soon!
@etnnyc I get about 12-14 city and 18-21 on the highway. I have taken it off-road in some snow this winter and she handled like a champ. Haven't gone on any trails yet
your WJ can easily beat the Hemi for one simple reason; weight. the WJ is 3700 lbs while the WK is close to 4300lbs..I have raced hemis before they can't keep up with me out of the hole.
@drippinblood28 Cold air Intakes are great for power and MPG. I might put one on the WJ along with the Flowmaster to help MPG and power at the same time. Currently I get 14.8 in the WJ and 16.1 in the WK (only because of the MDS). The intake will probably bump you up about 2-3 MPG. Not a lot, but better than before
personally, i like 2004 wj a lot better just because of the meaner look and the red paint. The wj is also comparable in performance because they both do 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds. The new 2010 though is awesome. I havea 1999 jeep gc 4.0 liter and it does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. Check my video out if you can!
Your dad needs to get a chrome grill and wax that jeep And it wouldn't look so dull Your overland just pops You should do some mods Chip Cai HiFlo exhaust W/x pipe Tweeked 4.7 might give base hemi a run
@drippinblood28 Yeah, the 2011 Grand Cherokee is pretty nice looking. I saw your video...cool that a 4.0 can get to 60 in less than 8 seconds. Parents had 3 Grand Cherokees (all with the 4.0) and I have to admit they were slow (that's why I got the 4.7 H.O.) but you can't beat the durability of the I6...they're bullet-proof engines
lol thanks! i just lifted my 03 overland 4" and the bigges tire i could get was a 32" with some trimming. THAT GUY IS FULL OF SHIT! lol see he brought the rage out in me again!
Personally I think the 1999-2004 grand Cherokees were the nicest model years for these cars.
except for the 11 to 17.. those are really nice! I think anyway.
Jesse Fritz they're cool, no doubt ...but less JEEP to me. Nothing about them makes you want to leave the pavement.

PhOeNiXpIoLe the -98 5.9?
Jesse Fritz amazing deal! congrats! im in love with the 04 Overland now.. but hey what do you think of the 98 limited's??
love the 2004 more than the new ones
The 2004 has a better quality interior, and is quicker then the 5.7, 0 to 60
the1999-2004 jeep grand cherokee WJ will allways be my favourite generation.
love my 04 limited call her ghost
4.7H.O. the best :) solid front end ;) i love wj

Love the color on that 04. I have an 04 Limited with the 4.7 no HO. With a chip and 4.10 gears it does pretty good though.
One year later and I have to add this. I installed some solid lash adjusters along with a set of HO cams, an HO air cleaner assembly and an SCT tune. Big improvement by all however the lash adjusters made the biggest difference in performance, in mid range and especially in top end. No more cold start clatter also.

exactly Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 HO Overland 2004!!!!! :D
Mine looks identical it’s an 03
Both cars are great 4x4... I love the Jeep.
that is a damn nice overland. I have an 04 limited but I look at it like an overland because I have the H.O. and the factory nav. you can check out an acceleration vid I posted if you want. Do you ever plan to put exhaust on yours or do any other mods?
i like the overland
That is a clean 04! Good job keeping it nice.
for me 99 to 04 the best looking and ready for Off Road

I would easily go with the 04
@3gencamaroguy The styling of the WJ is so much nicer in my opinion as well as the quality.
@drippinblood28 I agree. Could be because the WJ is my truck, but nevermind that. The WJ has 265hp and the WK has 357, but the WK weighs about 300-500lbs more. Even the SRT WK interiors look so cheap to me.
nice seat of 2004
Just goes to show you that Grand Cherokees are bad-ass.
Depends on the trim level, but yeah my Overland weighs 4200 while the WK Laredo weighs 4800. Weight is a big factor for the WKs
@etnnyc I get about 12-14 city and 18-21 on the highway. I have taken it off-road in some snow this winter and she handled like a champ. Haven't gone on any trails yet

Iv also got a loaded laredo WK with a 2 inch lift but i still prefer my WJ over it.
@mikegreenjeep Amen to that!! Sounds even better with a Flowmaster
Nicely shot video. Some narration would have been nice.
@drippinblood28 Cold air Intakes are great for power and MPG. I might put one on the WJ along with the Flowmaster to help MPG and power at the same time. @4wheeler14 do you recommend putting an intake on for power, but mostly mpg because i get like 13.5 mpg right now which is terrible.
@etnnic I've got a black 04 overland also. And do I love that 4.7L HO!!
@4wheeler14 i am about to buy a hemi 5.7 / does it wast gas ? or there is eco system ??
personally, i like 2004 wj a lot better just because of the meaner look and the red paint. The wj is also comparable in performance because they both do 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds. Your overland just pops
You should do some mods
Chip
Cai
HiFlo exhaust W/x pipe
Tweeked 4.7 might give base hemi a run
HAHHH i love fully loaded laredos for sum wierd reason... Luvin that overland tho hehe
JUST CURIOUS..!! what's yall opinion.. views.. with the 98 Jeep GC Limited?
@drippinblood28 Yeah, the 2011 Grand Cherokee is pretty nice looking. I saw your video...cool that a 4.0 can get to 60 in less than 8 seconds. @4wheeler14 have you seen the 2011 gc? it is sick. Look at my video of my 4.0 liter doing 0-60 in 7.5 seconds
@mikegreenjeep
You know it....WJ => best jeep ever made
2" lift with 36" tires? MY ASS!
i agree.
but i just think its funny you name is Rage and youre yelling at this guy hahaa
lol thanks! i just lifted my 03 overland 4" and the bigges tire i could get was a 32" with some trimming. THAT GUY IS FULL OF SHIT! lol see he brought the rage out in me again!
Wj
I'd go with 2010.
2004 👍👍 2010👎👎
i want the 4.7 back
Are you willing to sell the Overland? Hahaha
