    You maintained being calm after all those problems on your first long road trip..good for you!! I would have been using bad words after the 2nd trouble on this expensive car. I will never own a total electric car because the issues you just described. Hybrid keeps you going down the road with out getting stuck!!

    So many bitter/jealous people on the internet.
    the dislikes are most likely given at the moment the video started cause the visual didnt match what they expected.

    Anyway thanks for the video, I'm thinking of getting a Model 3 so i needed to watch videos like this. very informative about real world situations.
    The amount of charging stations in my country arent enough.
    it also seems like the constant search for charging stations will have the most influence on how i plan my routes.
    I think i gotta wait for more charging stations. I'll continue to use the train and bicycle. I'm done with mechanical cars.
    I'll just wait until electric cars have a stronger infrastructure.
    Thank you for the video!

    I enjoyed your video. You had problems, worked around them, and told us that Tesla repaired them without a fuss. The display that went bad wasn't made by Tesla, they bought it and put it in the car when they assembled the car. Unfortunately the bad display made the Tesla car look bad too. I leased an EV for 3 years and this video reminded me of how much I had to pay attention to charging. But, as the range keeps increasing on the EV's, charging will take less and less of your attention as you go on long drives. I expect to be driving EV again when the backlog of Model 3 is over. For now I will enjoy the Model S videos.

    You didn't restart the vehicle correctly. You have to hold down the scroll wheels until the Tesla symbol on the main screen shows up (roughly 20 seconds) what you did was put the car to sleep and turn it back on and not a full restart of all systems.

    • @TimothyMoore
      @TimothyMoore 7 років тому +3

      If they replaced the instrument cluster, how TF did she not restart it correctly? If she put the car to sleep, why did the screens come back up with the errors gone? They would have stayed "ASLEEP" if what you said made any sense.

    This was fun and painful to watch. I've had (and loved) my Tesla Model S 90D for almost 2 years -- bought new. I find that it is best to call Tesla whenever I have issues -- even when traveling-- and not try to figure it all out alone. Long road trips can be taxing so it is good to do it with friends in the beginning. You'll learn to research the Superchargers before leaving. Use PlugShare! Also, I encourage you to spend some time on the Tesla forums because many of the things you experienced have been addressed and debated.
    Your hair looks great! Enjoy your Tesla experience going forward

      The problem is you do not understand how retarded your comment sounds like.One day you will when this technology will be on par with ICE cars now you all look like dumb clowns.These cars are only for city driving and no more than 50 miles max 80 that is it.Using Superchargers going to kill the battery in just few years and if you are out of warranty good luck buying a new one.But Elon the con is lying to you.Supercharger will destroy your car really fast.It is called Supercharger gate.

    Tip 1: You do know you don't have to use the button on the screen to open charger bay. Just approach the charger bay with the charging nozzle in your hand press the button on top of the charging nozzle and it opens the charger door. Also, in my opinion, it looks like a flash memory problem with UI. Oh, I'm looking at the preview picture, you have the first generation. Those had some issues.

    Yeah...no. The idle fees were announced 3 months ago. The details were released. Whatever you have your charge limit set at. The charge station will quit when it hit your requested limit. At that point, after 5 min you are in idle. So you wanna use your phone app to check on your charge status or use the charging time estimated listed on your screen and time your return.

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  7 років тому +2

      Yeah...no. I haven't received another idle fee notification since. And remember, they are NOT implementing this. And it was announced 3 months ago...where? As an owner I should not have to search the internet and watch the news to see what Tesla is doing. Outside of youtube, I am not on the internet like that and I rarely watch tv...I have UA-cam videos to make, no time for that...LoL.

    A gas station can refill a car in 5 minutes and a Tesla needs 30 minutes ( 80% charge) . This works out approximately at least 8 supercharging stations to replace one gas station.

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  6 років тому

      Totally understand...I think for most who own this car there's not really an issue with time...it actually saves time (you never have to stop for gas again in your day to day life)...now what you see in my Tesla videos are the every so often road trips that I go on on purpose simply because I find it fun to drive the Tesla long distances.

  • @StephenPace1
    @StephenPace1 7 років тому

    For the future if your screen freezes, you don't need to stop to reboot the screens. You can reboot when you are driving with no issues. That was a more common problem in the old days, but it has been a few years since I had to reboot mine. Twice in one trip seems unusual, so it was good that Tesla replaced yours.
    As for SuperCharging, you should be aware of the A/B pairing of the chargers. You could have unplugged one of the ServiceCenter cars that was paired with your charger and then plugged it in again when you left.

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  7 років тому +1

      Thanks...I certainly didn't know you could reboot while driving. At the one supercharger that took forever...it was full...not a single empty charger.

    Hi there. It looks like you had some pretty bad luck on that trip!
    Just a tip for you. If you need to reset the dash again, you can do that whilst driving (still by holding down the scrollwheels). I can confirm that in my 2017 MS 90D, it is 100% safe. Why not test it out in a quiet street at low speed before you need it again so you have the confidence that you can do it on the freeway at any time you need in the future.
    It's also a good idea to do it once a month to keep things working nicely as well as after any software update.

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  7 років тому +1

      Ah...yeah...didn't want to try it while driving...and I know I didn't have to go to a Tesla Charging station to do it...these early days of owning a Tesla, I just like getting familiar with where the charging stations are and getting to know the lay of the land :-) Thanks for the tip.

    • @siggy101
      @siggy101 7 років тому

      The Fun and Budget Act Yep, it's a learning curve. They are just a big computer on wheels so plenty to learn. Way more so than a Lexus or other ICE car. Have a look at www.teslamotorsclub.com
      There is plenty of info on there and some really useful guides what will answer a load of questions that you don't know even exist yet!
      My personal tip: try to keep the battery between 20 and 80 percent charged. That will keep it in the best condition. The worst would be to charge it to 100% and leave it sitting somewhere hot. That's the same for any lithium battery, not just a Tesla.

    How to fix the charged Tesla in a charging stall(idle charge fee):
    Eject the charging cable (James bond style)
    Summon the car to an empty slot across from the charging stall.
    Tesla can do this.
    As pretty as the piano black is, I cannot stand it. Every little speck of dust shows up on it. (My dash has it)

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  7 років тому +1

    Shows why Telsa along with other EV makers must make a deal to put at least one "Supercharger" at every possible 7-11 type store and whatever independent gas dealers they can immediately. The SuperCharger network is not adequate and keeps the Telsa from being ready for prime time.

    I just found your video and I watched it twice just to get a handle on all of the issues that you were having while on your road trip I noticed that you are the second owner of your Tesla I wasn't paying close attention to which model year it is but as I remember when when The Cars first hit the market all of the early adopters or owners basically we're beta testers of the car so a lot of the issues that you were having were used as a way for the company to iron out issues that would come up. In real-world testing the gauges in the instrument cluster showing how much of a charge you may have had along with the spedometer could have been quite unnerving on a long road trip but it sold you on the long your trip. And it went well I enjoyed the video I don't recall seeing how many miles you have on the car or how long you've had it hope to see you do an update when the car reaches 50000 miles to give everyone an idea how well the car is holding up at that point I have not watched your other videos but this one was quite interesting hoping to see you update soon but until then Happy Motoring. And keep the videos coming thanks.

    Electric cars have a long way to catch up to sport luxuary internal combustion engine vehicles... In the same time you took on your road trip at top speed I would travel 1440 miles. Traveling on the autobhan at 155mph my car would take 3 hours 50 minutes to cover the 622miles; not 9 hours. @0.33 tonnes CO2. my car gets to 60 in 3.2 seconds top speed 195 mph and I would need only need to refuel once for 622miles... weight 0.9 tonnes ; Tesla Model S 90D: 90kWh battery, dual-motor, all-wheel drive (288-mile range, 4.2 seconds 0-60mph, 155mph top speed, weighs 2.5 tonnes. Tesla cars need power stations for charging and so 622 miles is 0.28 tonnes CO2 ) Which one would you choose?

I simply plug it in at home a couple of times a week. It is like having a gas station at home, and less hassle than my cellphone charging which needs it every day.

    I've been looking at Tesla since the roadster. I finally just ordered an S 75 and waiting for my late September delivery. I'm happy I waited though, since I won't have to go through all of these beta issues you were having. You seem like you are pretty close to my area. Is there any Tesla groups around the area?

      Hi Lebron...I have no idea if there are any Tesla groups around the DC area...probably so, but I haven't looked. But yeah, I hear the newer cars have a lot of the kinks worked out...not perfect but certainly better than any other car on the market (in my opinion, of course).

    I figured there was going to be problems with Teslas. My beef is with the time it takes to charge. Its not uncommon for me to go long distances on a trip and only stop for bathroom, coffee, and gas. I can keep snacks in the car.
    Hoping one day to afford a Tesla. Right now I just purchased a new Civic SI and when I got that paid off I will be looking at Teslas in my price range.

      Road to the 2 Comma Club no...but i hadn't had these issues before either. What i love is if you buy a car with less than 50k miles, tesla includes a full warranty. They have been super responsive to me...and they have given me new brakes and rotors, instrument cluster and center console. I feel they stand behind their work and most importantly they listen. Remember to use a referral code for the $1000 discount.

    this is the very reason why i refuse to get a electric or hybrid car. The technology has been rushed to production without adequate research and testing. Furthermore, it is a front wheel drive car!!! it makes no sense to me to pay that much for a front wheel drive car when you get a all wheel drive vehicle that has better range. my opinion.

    Teslas are kind of like cell phones they have to be reset sometimes.. I THINK you just hold the two buttons on the steering wheel down for a few seconds and it resets the software... (ask tesla to confirm)

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  7 років тому +1

      Yup...someone left a comment saying I did it wrong...so I called Tesla to confirm and learned: 1. Holding it down until the screen goes black is a soft reset. 2. Holding it down until the screen goes black AND the tesla emblem appears is a hard reset. 3. You can indeed do this while driving (though they don't recommend it for safety purposes). :-)

  • @brandonmhines
    @brandonmhines 7 років тому

    The Fun and Budget Act, I'm not sure if you have heard of the proper way to use the Supercharger Network. When there are multiple cars at the Supercharger, you need to pick a number that no one is using. All Superchargers have a Number and A/B. So if someone is on 1A then you can choose any other number other than 1. If you choose 1B you will be sharing the charge with 1A and both cars will charge at a lower speed. You can't really avoid this if there are a few cars already charging.

      Yeah...depending on lifestyle and personality, Tesla's won't be for everyone (just like city living vs country living aren't for everyone)...but keep in mind, my car is older (2013) and this trip was the only time I had these issues (I've taken more trips since)...I have yet to run into a Tesla owner who regrets buying the car...and as a Tesla community we find that we actually take more road trips with these cars. :-) And thank you so much for watching my videos [insert hearts here].

    Buy a Tesla. For the nominal price of only $90000, you will be granted ALL of the following by the auspicious company:
    1. A new car.
    2. A 24 hour waiting around time (marketed by TSL as "shopping" time or "eating" time) for a 400 mile trip.
    3. Countless hours of fun rebooting and troubleshooting.
    4. Many, many mad dashes for the nearest charging station.
    5. A constant fear of traffic jams, detours, and hilly roads.
    6. Frequent opportunities to visit the dealership for repairs. This is one of the best perks of ownership by the way.
    7. A car that runs like it has 200000 miles at around 30000 miles.
    8. The feeling of regret whenever an ICE vehicle passes by.
    Happy travels from your friends at TSL. Here, kind madam/sir: "Have a bon bon. We are only here to serve you."

    I would like to know the costs of all of these Tesla headaches. The purchase price: Down payment n monthly payment... Cost of insurance, etc. I've been contemplating getting a vehicle, and didn't want to be stuck in the stone age, with a regular "gas" car.

    • @FunandBudget
      @FunandBudget  3 роки тому +1

      Hahaha...I have an entire video on it - its in the Tesla playlist. I still have the same Tesla and I absolutely love it. My car insurance is $87 a month for full coverage. And I paid about $54K for it (that includes title & registration stuff), I took out about a $20K loan and paid that off in 4 months. Supercharging is free forever (because this car came with it back when they had free supercharging for life). The car was covered under warranty so didn't pay anything for repairs.
