This kind of armature wouldn't support the weight of a full figure. For larger sculptures, you'll need to use stronger materials, at least for the primary load bearing elements. Common choices included welded or bolted steel bar or pipe, bent electrical conduit, wood, and plaster. For smaller features, like hands, you could still use flexible armature wire for posing adjustments.
@@intheround8310 thank you. I’m working on sculpting life size figures to turn into polystone resin statues of characters and it hasn’t been easy finding the right materials.
@@mjsimunovich013 Wow, that's ambitious! You might want so use oil clay for that. I definitely prefer sculpting in water clay, but for long projects, the pragmatic advantages of oil clays can't be ignored (I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each in the second video in this series). Best of luck!
@@intheround8310 thank you. I know it is but let’s just the 3D sculptor artist who made beautiful designs of a character is what really inspired me and let’s just say he’s being unreasonable on things when I found ways that could get him noticed. Oh I know which is why I’m looking good oil or waxed medium based clay and armature that can take the weight but it’s also why I’m also maybe considering using mannequins but I am trying to find was that allow the person to adjust the height and pieces of the mannequin. I watch those videos and other videos which I recommend for a lot of people to watch so they can get an understanding of why it’s good to use an armature for certain sculptures. Thank you.
A bust armature is typically about 16 to 18 inches / 40 to 48 cm in total height, but really this will depend on how big a base or much of the torso you want to include. The egg beater part should be just about centered within the head, so you can estimate the final total height of the sculpture with a fair degree of accuracy. Best of luck!
you really are!! but thank you for making this series, my robo friend!! this things been carrying me through my submission for school, if i didnt have this, im half sure id be crying on thr floor with no clue what to do! this things so concise and cuts straight to the point that it's absolutely does wonders for my constantly wandering-off brain
Never my other question, found it! Thank you
Thank you very much your videos are really useful. I have no opportunity to study art at university so I learn a lot with your videos.
What is the round turntable you are using underneath the plywood base? Where did you get this? Thank you for the video!
Is it possible to make a full scale armature the same way you made this armature or is there another way?

An armature can be reused rite?
Sorry I rewatched and got the answer that the armature is reusable. Thank you so much, this was really helpful.
