I feel lucky today -- I was searching for a cover of Converse's work, which led me back to an old friend. Well, maybe friend is stretching a parasocial relationship, but I'm so pleased to see you still making content on here after all these years. I'm gonna go explore the rest of your new uploads. Lovely cover btw.
Im so glad you're making music again! Even if they're covers please keep making music. I just bought the Thanksgiving VS Christmas album and i can't wait to hear it!
Molly, please don't post weekly covers at the expense of originals. I would much rather see sporadic song writing than weekly learned songs. It's not that they aren't enjoyable, but your strength is your originals. No one is becoming a fan because of your covers. You're originals are your charm, and i know that takes a lot more effort, but you are good at it. Your efforts and energy will server you better in the long run by showing off your song writing skills, IMO. Best of luck!
The originals take a long time to cook. I think it's worth taking my time on them while not letting my performance 'muscles' atrophy. I enjoy both the composition aspect and the performance aspect equally. They are both creative in their own way. I don't know how much of my cumulative comment section you've read (I'd say I've read most of it), but a lot of people *do* like my covers, very much. You'll also find most of my more popular uploads are covers (though some originals are also up there, hurrah!) If you don't prefer them that's OK with me - It's exactly why I'm clear in the title and thumbnails that they're covers, and maintain a "Covers" and "Originals" playlist on this channel if you prefer to separate them. And I'll also say that, as a songwriter, learning and performing cover songs is a way for me to really engage with songs I appreciate, and learn about what I like about them on sort of a molecular level. I think the process makes me a better songwriter. I have to learn the different pieces of the song, how they are arranged, and how they connect together. In that process it's natural to ask, "Why did they do it this way?" and sometimes as I work through the whole piece I arrive near an answer. You can't get that understanding by just listening to them. In order to reproduce a song faithfully, I have to internalize it. It also allows me to hone my skills as a performer. It allows me to experiment & practice without risking that experimentation on my own material (about which I'm likely to be more precious.) I think covering songs makes me a better songwriter in the same way exercising would make me a better athlete. I do appreciate your concern, Scott. But with respect: The contents of this channel cost you nothing. I enjoy the covers, and a lot of my subscribers enjoy them too. Please do not tell me what to do. Thank you for your kind attention.
Molly, thanks for the well thought out response. I'm truly sorry if i offended. I'm a fan, let's make that clear. I enjoy the covers. It's just that when i see a commitment like "every week, a new cover!," it feels like a dedication based on delivering content. It's going to grow you, for sure.... no doubt about that. Your'e going to push yourself to learn, if not master, a new song each week. That's something. But a declaration like that says to me that you are going to devote all your spare time to learning a new song, instead of doing the hard thing that you are good at.... WRITING a new song. Do what make you happy girl, i'm just trying to encourage you to do more of the thing that made me a fan :)
I appreciate that, Scott. I think the thing I was trying to say is that creativity is sort of a weird part of the brain, and I think that if you want to get creative output, you have to feed yourself a creative diet. I've been sort of struggling to get new original material out & was kind of scratching my head as to why, and I find that the new songs are flowing out better now that I've been regularly putting cover material in. It's like I've injected fuel into the engine that writes songs! (And Scott, the secret of it is, nobody ever makes anything new - They just recombine pre-existing things, in new ways. Other songs I like inspire me to write my own songs that feel good in the same ways!) So I hope you can see these cover songs as a teaser for the sort of flavors you'll see in stuff I'm writing now!
Molly, you hit the nail right on the head there. All creativity is built on the foundation of those who came before. Even those exceptionally rare few who break new ground are standing on the back of their influences. Learning new songs definitely puts fresh ideas and techniques into your bag of tricks that you can pull from later. So, let me stand corrected.... keep doing what you're doing, and thanks for sharing.

Crikey! Capital Connie Converse cover, created copious cheerfulness, caused comfort, calmed calamity, cured cancer. Crazy cool composition. Commendations! Cheers, cuz.
