OH NO!! MY RESIN IS OVERHEATING-Did I Just Ruin My Silicone Mold?

- Today's video turned out to me a learning experience. A mistake I unknowingly made that now you can avoid.
**Why did my resin get hot and start smoking?**
When you mix Part A (resin) and Part B (hardener) together new chemical bonds begin to form causing an epoxy exothermic reaction. Energy is released in the form of heat as the mixture catalyzes.
Often the term “exotherm” is used when epoxy gets very hot, bubbles, smokes or cracks, however exotherm isn’t just a bad side effect. Exotherm is an integral part of epoxy resin chemistry and some heat or exotherm is required for the mixture to solidify and properly cure. With that said, epoxy resin is temperature and volume sensitive. So the higher the ambient air temperature and volume of epoxy used; directly corresponds to the amount of heat generated. To solve this problem resin for Deep Pour that can be applied 1” thick!
**Why did my resin get hot and smoke?**
The layer is too thick
Each epoxy resin system has a “safe” pour depth at room temperature. If you exceed that depth the transfer of heat becomes problematic. If exceeded as the chemical reaction “kicks off” the amount of thermal mass exceeds the thermal transfer rate generating excessive heat.

Hello thanks for the video I’m currently using the same mold and I’m using the amazing clear cast and every time I use it it overheats and foam up can you please tell me what deep pour you recommend if that’s not too much to ask thanks again
The same company that makes Amazing Clear Cast also has a deep pour resin. It's called Amazing Deep pour. 👍🏽
What colors did you use for hand mold? Beautiful!
Thank you. The color I used is called chromeX i got it from solarcolordust.com I can’t remember the color. I want to say it was chromeX -Nexus or ChromeX coquette. They have so many beautiful pigments
