I was a Procurement Manager before I retired and I did costing for a living. For someone who has never done it or says not good at math, you're awesome. You did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed your video. I'm selling my resin work now and I HATE pricing. I know I sold some of my items too cheap but it takes a while to build the confidence up when you go from hobby to selling your creations. Keep up the great job. Really enjoy your videos. :)

Several years ago I started up an ice cream truck. I was given an easy formula: Figure you costs and triple that because in the food industry your costs can go up at any time and you don't want to have to up the price too soon. Or in other words there are variables. You did a great job teaching and you have a good attitude toward complaints. People don't know what our costs are and can only see that it costs more for us as individuals than for the big chain stores.

Great video. My daughter is doing her first craft sale, and deciding how to price her resin work was difficult. We decided to price using the same method you did. And when we got to the craft sale we saw others with similar items not even covering their supply costs. This made us really second-guess our decision. So I was looking at how others did their pricing and saw your video and it really validated what we chose.

Thank you for reminding everyone to be empathic/sympathetic/ understanding about money situations. Even though I've been homeless before, it still would have hurt a lot more for someone to have told me my work is overpriced before you said that, because you're right. Back then if someone had tried to sell me a keychain for $20+ I would have bugged eyed them and walked off.

Great video. Going to show my primary school aged child this video. They have a student business fair in a couple of years and she was thinking about doing this... safely (gloves and respirator mask) and under supervision of course. It will also teach her how the world of business and life works.I've already ordered/received a bunch of molds, various items to include in the mold, keychain supplies, etc. - keeping receipts, etc. to show how the accounting all works. Showed her the various places to source at bulk, etc. Focus will be less on making money versus how profit works.

Thank you for sharing. As a fellow resin artist I never know how to price my earrings/ jewelry. I often go too low not including my time and price that the resin and material cost. I just really enjoy doing it so mostly it’s not always about the money. I just enjoy seeing people with my creation on.

I agree it’s all about the passion not the money for me too but definitely important to make sure we’re getting paid for our time, materials, etc. like I’ve said I’m the queen of underselling myself so I think it’s a great reminder to charge what we’re worth ❤️

You kept saying "I'm not good at math/ explaining" but you explained everything incredibly & with such detail. This was incredibly helpful & I think you did a fantastic job explaining it, as well as how to take a step back & realize that one's pricing comment could be coming from a place of financial vulnerability & to be mindful of it, as well as not to take offense, or come back offensively. Thank you so much for your video. It is amazing you are sharing your time and experience and expertise to others who are starting out. I think 23.00 is a fair amount for a custom piece even if it is small. You didn't even include the materials for the thank card, or the packaging materials in with the shipping cost. A suggestion: If anyone complains then charge them shipping and lower your cost of the piece. It all works out the same but some may feel they are getting a better deal. This is how other small business do it. Of course you can't please everyone there is always someone not happy.
All your info is very helpful love the video even if I am a year late still helps.

I just found your channel. This is an excellent video! I'm a woodworker but I always look for different pricing strategies. In woodworking two prevalent thoughts for calculating labor are: 1. length x width x height x 2 and 2. $1 per minute. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I usually figure cost of materials + $5 shop fee + $30/hour labor. If I am offering to deliver or ship, then that cost is added in, and I advertise "free shipping / delivery". When I start selling online whatever the online fees are will also be added in.

If you want to figure out how much resin a keychain uses, you can weigh it after it is cured and divide the weight into the weight of your resin bottles. I would think you would charge the same amount for each letter. Since some letters use more resin, you may want to do a bunch, weigh them all together, then divide by the number of letters on the scale. Take that number and divide into the weight of your total resin weight in your bottles, then use that number to divide into your total price for your bottles of resin. That should give you the average price of the resin you use for each keychain. I hope you followed that- just do it step by step. 😊

To measure how much resin just fill your mold with water and measure how much water you put in the mold. That lets you know how much resin it takes. I will say I used 2 oz of A and 2 oz of B so 4 oz of resin and did a whole alphabet and just a little bit extra left maybe enough to do one or two more letters

If you had a regular job how much would you be making , and how much is to much ? i think if it dont sell its either to expensive or just not a good product and on the other hand if your selling butt loads to just a few people then its to cheap ! Its got to balance out , i make leather keychains and acrylic keychains
along with wood and acrylic book marks , wood signs and metal jewelry and i find the cheapest person in the world and ask how much would they pay for it , then double it !

This might be a little different but I live in the United States and it’s a bit different where I live every package less than a pound is that two dollars and anything is a bit more than that it’s seven dollars about like over a pound at seven dollars and then as the item is a package get progressively heavier that price increases by 10¢-15¢

    There’s also things like:
    • electricity/gas,
    • water,
    • gas (driving to buy materials, visit post office)
    • clean-up materials (soap, paper towel, garbage bags),
    • safety materials (gloves, eye protection, worktop coverings),
    • slight waste (minimal dye, resin, glitter - left in prep cup). The precise amount of resin needed to fill any particular mold isn’t going to be the correct number when determining “how much resin?” because of those small amounts left on your spatulas, drips, reside left in prep cups, overfill bulk that gets sanded off in finishing steps, etc.
    My question:
For those who are new to epoxy crafting and just to trying to get into selling their products (tumblers and various mold-made items), how challenging do you think it is to break into the market and be able to have consistent sales? To me, it seems like a highly saturated market, and unless you are very skilled, make unique items or somehow have a following from the start (maybe you have a UA-cam fan base who earns you sales from the start), my guess is that it’s challenging to earn and maintain enough sales to make it an attractive, profitable activity.
For example, I’ve been a viewer of a UA-cam lady who has always made videos focused on saving money and finding deals. Her best friend got into resin crafting and Cricut use, and so after decorating just one tumbler at her friends place, which involved a Cricut decal, she decided that she was going to get onto resin/Cricut crafting and also sell. She them went wild and bought a Cricut and about 50 rolls of vinyl, along with all the Cricut tools, as well as a tumbler spinner, approx 20 tumblers, loads of molds, mica, resin, endless supplies (even many colored extra reusable straws to include with tumbler sales), hundreds of stickers - you name it, she bought it. Granted lots of her purchases were from Temu or clearance shelves (which, to me, equals lower quality supplies and lower quality finished goods 👎). She doesn’t have a grasp on proper technique or skill (she has only made a single tumbler, so that’s expected). To me, I’d think that it would be hard for her to make back the substantial amount of money she spent buying so many supplies! Her UA-cam audience is very small and are budget-focused (generally), and so aren’t going to be the people who want to spend $20 on a keychain. And - I’m not trying to be mean here. My experience and education is in accounting, and so all of this is purely objective. It’s a combination of cost inputs and possible sales, which have some relation to product design skill level and end product quality.
Since you have experience in the market, what are your thoughts about that situation? Where someone has nearly no experience/skill, however has spent lots of money on supplies. What do you predict their sales will be like ?

Thank you for this video! I started making 3D glow in the dark pole dance boot keychains and I’ve been struggling with pricing. I priced everything out like you did but I also looked at Etsy and someone sells 2D boots and sells them at $26 per (free shipping). I priced mine at $24.50 with free shipping in the U.S. but maybe that’s too high for people. I think it’s fair because the boots are made in house. They are sculpted out of clay, molded, and then resin copies are made. 🤷‍♀️ not sure if you have any advice about it. 😩

The formula i use is cost of supplies, shipping (if you do free shipping), fees multiple by 4, add the cost per time worked, divided by 2. If you run frequent sales you may want to also make up for the loss revenue so you would multiple the final number by the sale amount (if the sale is 15% off you would multiply by 1.15).

@@JustCallMeMeghan I think you can use Chit Chats in the USA but I am not 100% sure, and if so I do not know the difference in the prices since the USA seems to have way better prices than Canada. I can send a tracked package to California from Ontario and that costs about $6.50 ($5.25 USD), while shipping to British Columbia which is at the other end of the Canada is around $10 ($8 USD) and that is with Chit Chats. If i were to go with Canada post it is about $20 ($16 USD).
