How to Keep Road Dirt Out of Your Truck Cap Camper!

- There is nothing worse than wanting to settle in for the night and you find a thick layer of road dirt blanketing the inside of your camper. How do you keep road from entering? In this video we will take a look at a few tips and tricks I use to keep those dust particles at bay!

I've actually found that slightly cracking my front topper window (cab access window) while driving, it helps build a small amount of positive pressure inside the cap that helps keep dust out. Not a lot of dust gets between the cab and the bed while driving so it doesn't pull too much dust in. But the positive pressure helps by trying to push air out any other gaps that might exist. I've tried to seal around my tailgate, and plug all other holes in the bed, but my topper isn't made for my truck so nothing really seals 100%.
The positive pressure method isn't 100% dust proof, but it sure seems to help a lot. I travel a ton of dirt roads in mine for hunting.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It is so hard to keep the dust out for sure. I remember once driving a Class A down a Kansas dirt road for about 40 miles. When I pulled into a tuck stop to sleep that night, the back bedroom had 1/16” covering of road dirt everywhere. All we wanted to do was sleep and instead we hade a huge mess to clean up. Somehow the dust was being drawn in somewhere. I did have my driver side window open for some of it…I’m guessing that was creating a vacuum of sorts.

Love the video. I know this is a bit off topic but since I was a bit behind watching on your last video, I figured I'd comment here so that you might see it. On your last one I'd never heard of roll up canoes before, did they hold your weight well without taking on water? I feel like that could be a great way to portage without carrying a ton of weight.
Thank you!! We have been pleasantly surprised at how sturdy they are once folded. I have never felt unsafe while using them. We had rigid kayaks prior to these, and I am so glad we went this route. They weigh 28 pounds and can fit in the back seat. Sure beats trying to get a 13' tandem kayak on the roof of my truck!

Do you have a roof fan that can reverse so it blows in? And if you have it blow in it would not suck dust in, but blow air out the cracks from fresh air on top of the camper ( probably need a vent cover to drive with it open.
