    Disabling or passively nerfing abilities we worked hard to rank should never be the answer.

    Gotta say. I like how much you care. I'm happy to see someone else who cares so much about mabinogi and is criticizing it correctly by providing solutions. I can only hope that the NA team can somehow talk to the KR team and take some of this criticism properly. Here's to a better mabi.

    Mabinogi used to be fun, but they changed the combat system and didn't update the monsers, so half of the game has the old ai, and the other half doesn't. Patience used to be key in mabi's combat, but now you can just spam skills.
    Instead of skills loading instantly, you had to to wait for you skills to load up, which put thought into the combat. Certain skills loaded faster than others, but they didn't have a cool down, unless it was a skill with cool down baked into its mechanic.
    back then you had to learn the N+1 combo or N+smash, or N+windmill, and it was fun. that essense died a long time ago.
    I'm willing to say the game people call mabinogi today, is just a game engine where ideas either fade away, or just sit there as a testament to the nostalgia that the game always went for

    This is everything that I've been feeling about Mabi's combat wrapped up in a nutshell. They need to rethink and redesign how they handle big-bad bosses. Something more akin to the Fleur fight where you can see the attack path or have to dodge not-too-fast projectiles.

    You know I was wondering why I find the combat in Genshin fun when it's challenging even if sometimes it feels "bull" or "ridiculous" in the abyss... It's because you do actually have quite a bit of agency and there is strategy to the combat.
    Whereas as you said in Mabinogi all of the end game content is either you cheese it aka beat it in a way the devs didn't intend you to and is often very 1-note, or you have enough stats to bruteforce. The latter is what I've been going with, but via the gradual powercreep method instead of actively farming the stats.
    For example, I couldn't run adv sidhe very easily on release and mostly opted to spamming basic with friends or alone to get lv25~26 echostones for stats and then making a bunch of lv20s? lv25s? (I forget), and selling the supplements. But adv is mostly a cakewalk these days for me despite my gear not having improved that much because the game has added so many other systems that although are timegated, aren't that difficult to level up/increase. And these systems are the primary reason I can bruteforce the content now lol.

    Adding proper counter play is gunna be so important for improving mabinogi's combat. Even something as simple as letting us spam arrow keys (or maybe even some ddr) to break out of a grab or chrome bath's puppet snares would help the game so much. No one can look at chrome bath right now and say that it looks "fun".

    Mabi has a lot of old systems that need to be changed and adjust urgently but I think combat is one of the crucial ones. tbf, the combat system was fine until Nexon started mimicking FF14 combat system and they only copied the bad stuff from it. I have to admit that, the fairest boss fight with the new combat system has to be Girgashiy. Excluding the fact that it can die in 5 seconds the moment he kneels, they are lots of good elements in it: 1) easy mechanic 2) combat is readable and can be dodged and 3) no adds. Then, the rest of the bosses exist just to annoy the players.
    Succubus Queen and Fluer, two will heal around 20%~40% base on how you fail the puzzle. We are not talking about 5%~10%. The healing is already insane then you have unlimited adds to shot you to death and the dps debuff will only extend the boss fight even longer.
    Then we have Admiral's Lingering Spirit, a boss that has pretty decent mechanics but then the boss fight gets destroyed by the adds once again. Succubus Queen has Fiend which is annoying, but they are slightly slower and doesn't deal high damage (if you have enough protection). In Admiral's Lingering Spirit's fight, the rats can each deal 200 damage hit with fast traveling speed and high attack speed. This is the biggest wtf moment and sometimes I wonder what the devs are actually thinking.
    The G26 boss fight was also pretty awesome until the moment they added adds in the final boss fight again. The reason was, "we didn't expect that so many players to defeat the boss in the testing server so we are going to increase the difficulty" At this point, you understand that they are aiming to ruin the combat for the players not making it fun for the players.
    Mabi combat system fails because they don't provide players an opportunity to dodge the attack. While FF boss fight has a set of routines to memorize, Mabi boss fight doesn't do that often. Like you mention in the video, the boss should indicate that what skill it is using and how wide the attack range is. Therefore, the players are allowed to dodge. By just adding two indications, they will have a much-improved combat system. But at this point, Mabi has way too many problems to fix or even beyond help at this point. Also Nexon doesn't really care what players think unless the KR players strike again.
    It's sad that Mabi could have been a great game and gone viral long ago. The gacha fashion is a lot better than other games, there are lots of interesting interactions, there are moments where you can actually find friends for life. It was such a good community but Nexon just wants to ruin it with its own hand

    sounds like changing mabi into FF14, as to if its a good or bad thing in a broad sense has alot of ups and downs.
    instead of a dash heres one that we have in game already evasion, it works for avoiding hasi dash, and why can it not work on other attacks and rework it so its more timing based instead of chance based. infact it already has inate cooldown and usage limitations that already work within a reletive good range and punishes spam without thinking what your doing. a few that i can think of already is allows full dodge of all magic including icespear, with meteor being the only one that i can say for the mobs who have it already got counter play to prevent them from using it. and one of the 2 aoes that ult glas uses would work great for this if not both. alot of these type of attacks dont need much in terms of there side, if anything its more so give evasion the s anchor rush has or something similar to it. thunder dodging, players already have a rough timing to use the shield for it so using evasion after getting taged isnt that much of a issue
    wolfs and all old enemys all based around how the old rock paper scissors we used to have, but so many player combat updates let us brute force most of it. over all alot of enemys with there combat from that era need to be a little bit more agressive imo then anything, there aggro limits already prevent newer players being ganged by a room of 8 enemys in most early stuff, they just need to be a bit more offensive and actually follow through with attacks. idk how many times ive seen skeletons with bows load up ranged attack with in less then 1k unit range and just say "na i wont shoot and swap to melee well causesly wandering around you in full aggro state". the skeleton legodessas are prob the most aggressive spiders we have and if it wasnt for the fact i got the def to ignore them they are actually trouble, when rabbie adv first came out those were always the troubling enemys since they would always destroy players, but when you learned what they do you could actually fight agienst them. the only thing i would say to change this is for enemys only is to readjust all there aoe like attacks to be telegraphed, like WM would have a circle tell for every enemy that uses them and can use them on wiff. shooting rush on fiends and the humanoids that have them also would work good for this, and countless other types of attacks, they just need to spend the time to re adjust monster versions of these attacks(whichs is alot of time).
    one last note, there is 1 key difference between subject theta and ult glas, subject thetas aoes take long enough time to actually run out with some scale of movement speed, i think humans can always do it from center to outside with a speed potion? could be wrong on the specifics but they accounted for that, well ult glas's is so fast i think even on mount its hard to get out if you dont react instantly to it. theta by all means feels like a better designed fight since they dont overload players with mobs like in glas(again for like the 12th time in this games history, more mobs=ignore or mass nuking to ignore) and the attacks of the fight arnt "you ether are already almost out or need to avoid it through 4 different skills....btw we disabled 2 of those"

    Really like that idea of enemies using skillshot indicators more, I gotta wonder how many of their design choices are related to engine limitations though. Isn't mabi built on a pretty old (and proprietary) game engine?

    • @DischordMabinogi
      @DischordMabinogi  3 роки тому +6

      Mabinogi's game engine is very old, but the devs have proven that they can add stuff like line indicators (Fleur in Mag Mell, Soaring Legs in Awakened Abyssal Lord). They've also made movement skills before, like the ones mentioned in the video. I believe they already have the technology and programming skills to create stuff like dodges and indicators. I think they just need to improve on the direction of the game and the ideas that work instead of continuing to make un-reactable attacks and unfun restrictions.
      Nexon needs to take the ideas from the games that have proven to work, rather than trying to stick with their own ideas, since their own ideas aren't working.

    The moment games start throwing enemies at you that doesn't flinch, get pushed away or have any negative reaction to your moves, is the moment you know the game has reached it limits and has nothing good to throw at you anymore, you have become too strong and it's all the developers faults for letting you become as strong as you did and it's there fault as well for now having to create enemies that are outright unfair just to simulate challenge.

  • @hovsep56

    the game was simply not designed around fast reaction combat. i miss classic mabi where yo actually have to think instead of facetanking and just dps more than the mob.
    the movement and combat is also too scuffed due to its age.
    they should just make a new mabi game so they can properly implement all the solutions you provided. i can imagine how scuffed the dodge would be on this mabi.
    tbh ever since they made vindictus, they have been shitting on mabi.

      Mabi always has had issues with the boss fights though. Even in the old system, the hardest bosses had Advanced Heavy Stander and it kinda ruined the combat loop.

  • @GameLax01010
    @GameLax01010 3 роки тому +1

    Mabinogi's fundamental combat system is really good but what they build on top of that is held together with glue and duct tape at this point.
    Another issue is just how generally old the game/game engine is at this point, attacks just don't transition into one another smoothly and there is not a whole lot of smooth movement into attacks and back into movement.
    I think it's unfair to compare Mabinogi to Genshin Impact, one game is almost 2 decades old, another one came out in 2020.

    • @Freakattaker
      @Freakattaker 2 роки тому

      I know this is an old comment, but what's being compared isn't really all that unfair. What's being compared and critiqued is the design direction of the combat in each game. And it's clear what Mabi's doing is far from good.
      In fact, the design of the combat when the game first came out was pretty well balanced when you played CC vs CC encounters. Aka what 90% of the playerbase experienced at the start of the game and for most of the game. Back then dealing with a Gray Wolf in Tir was in fact a fun fight and not a straight forward stat check on the enemy because reacting and responding poorly often meant death while doing it correctly would often lead to a fairly close fight outside of highly levelled characters.
      That said, the end game combat of the game was still a mess with Archery and WM being way too strong and the power level of enemies to players still being disproportionate due to systemic mechanics. There were ridiculous things like enemies 1 shotting you and some enemies just being overwhelmingly OP, but there absolutely was strategy in beating them and you did have ways of approaching the problems. Though it's debatable if the ultimate solutions were cheese built around the existing systems at the time, or legitimate thoughtful strategies depending on the fight.

    The Gray Wolf explanation is good but do notice that most of Mabinogi's base game enemies have never been reworked to adapt to skill sets added afterwards, Ninja, gunner and so on may as well not exist to a Gray Wolf and that's part of the issue, what they should do instead of re-tweaking skills for the thousand time is rebalance the games old enemies like Wolfs, Skeletons, Racoons, Rats, Gremlins, Imps, Bears, Goblins and so on.

    Having played since 2008 when G1 came out, I lost interest in playing the game when Shakespeare came out. The extremely sharp turn in story was jarring to say the least, as there's a TON of mythology they could've put in. As for skills, they obviously suffer from power creep, the original three skill sets especially. The damage sponge mechanics you mentioned was also a huge downer for me. Another thing that annoyed me was that they completely ignore the transformations each species has when it should be a gigantic boon to your stats. They should've had a larger skillset for them with a stat increase that's based on your current stats. One last thing that finally got me to stop playing was that, simply, it stopped being Mabinogi in my eyes and others as well.
    There's many more grievances I have, but I don't want to type out an essay.

      I play FF14. The hardest content in FF14 is significantly more difficult than anything Mabinogi has right now mechanic-wise. Even the newest dungeon Crom Bas. The difficulty in Mabinogi comes from combating the natural clunk of the game, the necessity of paying and grinding for powerful gear, and the bullshit the developers put into their boss fights. In fact, the boss's actual mechanics are extremely simple to understand and quite forgiving. The complaints fielded in this video, if fixed, would only be good for prolonging the life of the game and increasing the audience - and making the game overall more fun.
      I'll give it to you straight. I don't play Mabinogi for its award-winning combat or boss fights. I play it for the freedom, the fashion, and the music. If I wanted to have fun in difficult content, I would play another game.

    • @DischordMabinogi
      @DischordMabinogi  3 роки тому +9

      @@mjsud With the new KR game director trying to take in community feedback (288 complaints were addressed and a large majority of them have time frames on when they'll be fixed/updated), I think that devs have a decent chance at watching this video and taking notes on it for the future.
      This video also didn't just talk about Ultimate Glas. This video brought up multiple enemies and boss fights that were either BS, cheeseable, or too easy. Alban Knights Training Ground Heroic SS is a great example of this that was in the video. On release, the best way to fight the mobs was to not fight at all, and instead Play Dead with Ice Spear chains going off as you just sit there. Nowadays, people have so much stats that we just one shot or two shot everything. And this keeps happening time and time again, from Phantasm's Crystal Deer method to the Hostage Circles in Revived Illusion.
      This is the problem that needs to be fixed. Every single enemy in the game, even discounting Crom Bas as a whole, is either too dull or too difficult (and requires cheese or raw stats). It's not fun fighting enemies when they all do the same thing at its core.
