Beauty of a car. I like that the headlights don't have the new Golf "eyelash" element, which seems to be the new VW design trend.
Yeh I’m hating that new trend. It’s in the new Tiguan. Completely cheapens the look.
The previous gen Passat from 2015-2019 is in my opinion in the top 10 most beautiful exterior sedan designs to have ever been created...
And then it kinda went downhill from there.

Thanks Thomas, really hopeful we'll get these in Canada. If I can make a wishlist request. Can you show how baby/infant reverse seats fit in cars. I've found that some big cars can't really fit them. I know its not a 'cool' review topic but for buyers and future planners very useful.

Great driving with interesting technology discussions, and driving commentary - as usual with Thomas. Distractions? The 'cruise control' control - "Driving me nuts!" - yes. And the big central display seems quite distracting too. I like that the Touareg R occupies the comfort niche versus Cayenne/SQ7. Nice car, not that I would go for this type of big car! Thanks, Autogefuhl Team.
I really like the look of the Touareg interior.
I wish VW would take more inspiration from this interior when they designed the new golf!
...and throw in some analog knobs to control the AC unit, radio and a few other essentials while they were at it.

The powertrain from this would never fit in the a MQB based car like the Arteon…
In the UK we are (Sadly) only getting the R type PHEV at the moment. With 22” wheels only. I have a test drive booked and will certainly paying close attention to the buttons on the steering wheel - after hearing other reviewers also disliking them.

Funny to see that the T-cross has some exterior similarities with the Touareg (spoiler, back window and lower light), even with this R-line

Very nice but I wish they would give us 3 full seats in the back though, for 3 kids it's a must, that's why I'd go Q7, they have 35~30~35 split and isofix on all 3 seats, plus two rear seats as well.
Another option is the Citroen C4 spacetourer or Peugeot 3008.

every SUV should come with diesel engine(towing, adventure, excursions, vacations and long range driving).. + 50-100km range on pure electricity(for city, start stop, work, shopping, drive kids around).. it looks great new touareg
VW is making their lesser then great selling cars look better then their cashcow, the Golf, where is the logic behind this? This Touareg is looking so good, also the Tiguan is beautiful

Is it just me who doesnt like the new R badge design and positioning on the car? I think the old badge looks way more meaner and aggresive + the positioning should always be on the left or right side of the rear, makes it look cleaner.
Interesting how the engine cover has the old VW logo whereas it’s the new logo everywhere else.

After this excellent review---VW will implement some form of haptic feedback for the steering wheel controls. As for the HMI --once I get familiar with the screens, I usually split commands between voice control, Steering wheel buttons,-then if I have to--the screens.

35:00 Changing speed of cruise control while it's off is common, I've had this on Golf 7 and Skodas
Eg. It let you prepare for the next section at a different speed.

Why is are the brake calipers not blue? Anyway, I can't deal with the asymmetrical dash. Yes, OCD. I also notice they have the rear wiper at the bottom. Many manufactures have re-positioned them to the top, out of sight, under the the spoiler.
Also, no cover over the cup-holders, not very upscale for a vehicle at this level. I do think the black version is handsome.
When can we expect to see an Urus review? Kinda looking forward to see Thomas's take on that.
I am really impressed by the package. In general i would buy it, because it is a hybrid, there is a good punch, design is attractive, offroad capabilities are there and towing is doable too. Was there any comment about the consumption?

A very Clean design in the Touareg
This is the only 4WD PHEV Volkswagen car so far.
Interesting point, Tomas, how the 4-wheel steering and plug-in hybrid systems are - by necessity, due to spatial restrictions - mutually exclusive in the _Toureg._ You don't find that level of information anywhere else on youtube. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • ☝️😎👌

I’m from South Africa..... if i want to purchase one can i have it built in Right-Hand Drive without the electric motor?
How those cars manage with engine temperature? If petrol engine launches only when we need performance, how it gets warm and provides lubrication?
If u're on full electric mode, the engine is cold, then you request for immediate power and the engine jumps in at 5k rpm. wouldn't that be bad for the engine?

I just looked up the Touareg R on the VW German website and it only has a V6 with 340bph. Where can one find this 462bph hybrid model?
Great review, whilst I like the large TFT screens, agree some direct buttons are much easier whilst driving. Is rear wheel steering worth it? I can see the wheel alignment guys sweating or some know it all dude making a complete mess

Lovely SUV and pity we Americans, we are supposed to settle for the dumbed-down Atlas. Sigh. We have a ‘15 Touareg and it’s built like an ingot, fantastic. Everyone I know is hanging on to their Touaregs, making them last because we can’t get another one :(

@@hiiiofficial8306 There is no RSQ7... also the outgoing SQ7 with the Diesel V8 should perform very similar to this vehicle... the new one with the petrol V8 will probably eat it alive.

They should bring this stateside. Atlas is too big and the Tiguan is too small. Touareg would fit right in between
Sad that America only wants the pile of plastic Atlas/Atlas CrossSport. If Touareg came back to the U.S., it should come back only in an R line trim in the $55k-$75k Range.
This car is sooo much better than the crappy Atlas we have in the US. VW got rid of this here and made the Atlas instead. Such a disgrace.
@@100M2B - right. I understand that the Touareg is rather pricey, and most Americans think spending "that much on a VW" is crazy. The Atlas is cheaper (and looks it too!), but it sells better here. Still, it sucks because this new version is amazing!

VW group can do more in the design department to differentiate between their brands , they are almost becoming boring.
Audi is sort of the most boring looking of the German luxury car brands, but what they do is austerity done well. VW is the down-market extension of that philosophy. Some car brands are more extravagant and artistic, others are simpler. I think VWs are not overt at all, but they do covert VERY well. That piano black is not going to hold up well though, a lot of people are going to get that stuff wrapped.

Sadly, VW took the Touareg out of the north American market a few years ago. Was too expensive and they weren't selling enough of them here to justify it (plus, if you're going to pay upwards of $50-$60k for a German SUV, you're going to get a BMW or Audi, not a VW). That's how we ended up with the Atlas, which I agree is 😴😴😴

The Interior looks ok, the backside looks ok, but the front... C'mooon... You need an Italian designer to work on this!
Just a pity that this Touareg PHEV would be judged as the "green washing" plug-ins. Like many other executive German cars (and other countries or origin).
It's a convenient solution to have one big electric motor and Dualclutch transmissions replace the torque converter in the transmission - but these kind of hybrids are *not* more efficient with a flat battery charge.
The dynamism of a 1 motor hybrid with a limited (hybrid mode) battery is ... limited. The engine acting as the major power source has to juggle with the motor briefly assisting, force-charging or regen charging as it slows down. Honda faced this limitation in their entire IMA hybrid engines, but those cars were also very light for their power.
I'd say if there wasn't this alienation of "CVT" hybrids like the Prius, hybrids that can generate and spend electricity dynamically with engine output - then we would have more efficient and interesting cars that won't be called as cheaters in real world emissions drivings - because if the driver is not costumed to drive their car, they will waste the opportunity and fuel to "drive it like a normal car".
