Not to mention sky high final drive ratios, lean mixtures and sluggish spark advance curves. Case in point: The original Chevy small block was the 265, in the late seventies they came out with the 267. Nearly the same displacement but drastically lower performance due to all of the above.
I miss my '73 GP with the 400 Q-jet. I did like most respectable Q-jet owners did and inverted the air cleaner to get that unique roar. It was an attention getter.
We had a 73 Grand Prix with the 400 turbo 400 transmission that thing would walk the new Trans Ams in 79. Of course they weren't what they once were either but it was still a lot of fun.
Maybe a problem with the accelerator pump not shooting. Make sure the linkage is connected and the metering rods/power piston aren't stuck in the down position.
Do you know what Primary rods and jets you have in your Quadrajet? I cant get my 400 Running from off idle. It just dies iff i touch the pedal. If you can i could also youse the Number from the carbs side to fetch right rods from books.
Shes dialed in good brother ! Ill take a q jet over any thing ! My holley buddys hate me . I beat em when we race ! And i get 3 , 4 more miles to the gallon than they do . That is one expertly tuned Q- jet... they sound better than any other 4bbl if you know what to do with them.
