Where I'm at over 5 acres you can get farm plates on your vehicles which allows you to break all kinds of vehicle codes legally because your truck becomes a farm implement...and as long as what you're doing is "farm related" you can't get a ticket (I mean you can easily beat a ticket) for bald tires or lights out or broken windshield or no trailer plates... things like that. Thanks for sharing glad I found you on one eye customs channel. Your shop is awesome
Thanks, By us you have to file F on your taxes to really get the benefits but were in the middle of no where and don't have a police department so it's pretty rare to get any kind of ticket. Good thing there's not bank to rob!
Can I be your friend? Lol!!! That’s a well thought out shop. I personally like the Hotsy hot water power washer. Gets anything clean! Go make that money!
Awesome work space! Cheat codes to life such as the power washer by the doors, sheet goods stood-up but orthogonal to the wall, and other bits shown in the video are especially helpful for those looking to build their own. Lots of inspiration. Well done! Great video!
Very nice! My aspirations are to have or build a shop in the future. Better to buy one now than build, but in my area everything runs a premium. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck. I am actually moving and building a different one (quite a bit smaller) not looking forward to lumber prices, hope they are a bit lower then!
Im wondering if it might not be a good idea to have your grinding station right next to your air compressor. I would think the compressor would suck up a lot of the metal particles
Hasn't been a problem so far. Compressor has an air filter on it so it gets changed every year. Saw dust would be a concern too but every time I change it the filter doesn't look too bad.
Great shop in love the layout bot curious why you didn’t put some paint on the walls. It would’ve made a huge difference to brighten everything up. Other than that everything looks great.
Hey Howard, The bottom cord of each truss is a 2x6, I laid a double 2x12 on top of them directly above the beam. Then I drilled through the holes in the beam up and through the 2x12's and through bolted them with some thick washers so it hangs off the 2x12's. I figured it was too heavy to lag bolt especially if you lift anything heavy. We put the beam on a scissor lift (on the railings) and pushed it up to the ceiling to hold it while we bolted it. Thanks for watching!
No, I've given allot of thought to one that I could move around but I don't think I'd use it enough to give up the space. Thats probably what everyone says till they get one.
It was right in the spot where the new shop needed to go. We stare directly at it out of our home so we wanted a nice looking building. It was just a shell, dirt floor not even electric so it was an easy decision to start new.
Thanks for checking out Build Life! Stay up to date with us on Facebook: facebook.com/BuildLifeYT
Wonderful Shop!! I've permission to build a similar size and wonder what are the utility costs per year for heat / hydro - again your shop is perfect!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful work shop please do a toolbox tour watching from South Africa
Hmmm I would have to do some deep cleaning first LOL!
Thank you for sharing your shop. You gave me a lot of great ideas. Very nice very clean. Enjoy the video. Thank you.
You are so welcome!

Wicked shop! Goals for sure! Thanks for the tour.
Thanks!
A most righteous shop. Congratulations.
Thanks Kurt, I'm very fortunate to have a great space!
Wonderful shop great job! Been watching videos to set mine up
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice shop. I really like that huge toolbox with a top. I agree forklifts are a must have if you have the space to use them.
Definitely!
Great vid. Thx for sharing. Going to check out more. Watching from Ontario Canada
Awesome! Thank you!
Nice shop. There’s no replacement for horsepower and the same goes for workshop & storage space. Nicely done!
Thanks! 👍 "my shop is too big" said no one ever!
Very nice building! Someday I hope to have a space similar to this!
Got that for my 40th Birthday!
Can I be your friend? Lol!!!
That’s a well thought out shop.
I personally like the Hotsy hot water power washer. Gets anything clean!
Go make that money!
Thanks!
Awesome. I'm in the middle of my 40x60 shop build
Good luck! New shops are awesome!
Heat in the floor is the smartest thing you ever did!
yeah its pretty nice, especially when your laying on the floor under a truck in the winter!
That's impressive, I have a relative that owned Shrader steel in Nebraska that had an impressive farm ,he had 1000 acres .
Thats a big farm!
The Tommy Boy quote was appreciated...
One of my favorites!
Nice garage, very nice.
Thanks 👍
No more changing the light timer for daylight savings. One less thing on the list lol!
Still have it in Illinois! Changing to a photo cell this week!
Beautiful shop, a real dream build great work
Thank you very much!
I just built one of those hitch ball fork attachment for my Kubota tractor.

Thanks Rob! Video coming out tomorrow on Strap and Chain storage. (spoiler I'm moving and building a new shop stay tuned)
I'm about to steal all of your ideas for the ideal shop lol
Steal away!

Thanks for watching! Never say never!
great shop
I think so too!
I am severely below average on stick and tig but do ok with mig.
All things I'd like to get better at
I like that trolley crane. Might have to copy that. :)
That’s my favorite part!

Beautiful shop. Very well thought out and executed. Not a lot there I would do differently
Thank you very much!

Other than that everything looks great.
Thanks Russell. I may in the future. I like the wood look and it doesn't show dust. Thanks for watching!
Nice build
Thanks!
Man that’s a nice shop you have
Thanks, we have the same last name too!
Love the shop mate, looks great
Thanks!
What are the dimensions of your shop, and the lean to and wood shop? the setup and apparent square footages of each are excellent!
Thanks! Main = 40' x 60', lean to = 16' x 56' and the wood working shop is 25' x x42'
Nice shop!
I think so too!
Hi I was wondering how you supported your I beam. Howard from vermont

not sure i caught the size of the main shop with the double doors.. 30x40??
It's 40x60
Nice shop man!
Thanks!
Very nice shop. What is main shop dimensions?
Thanks, 40x60
You have a very nice kitty
Don't look at him the wrong way though he is savage! Rabbits, squirrels...
Nice Shop
Thanks!
Hey where is everyone from and do you have a shop space of your own?
tHanks. Fun tour. Is there a link for the Big Ox? I can't seem to find it.
Winn rack is the company www.winnrack.com
That is an f’n shop ! And you’ve lost some serious weight ! Take care bud
Boom! Thanks - Not too many 350 lb. 100 year olds!
How did you spec the size of the beams and joists for your loft?
You can find charts online but I tend to just overbuild.
Whats the dimensions of each areas of the shop
The main part is 40x60, the woodworking wing is 24x40 and the lean too on the side is 16x56
when people call a building a shop it always makes me think they are selling stuff out of it.
Everything's for sale LOL!
What do you do for a living?
I own a roofing company
nice
Thanks!
What took more time...the shop or the JEEP ?
Jeep for sure but I did that by myself so maybe not fair comparrison!
@@buildlife Both look great. The Jeep is a good fit for the shop. The shop keeps the Jeep fun even when it is raining.
Did I miss a hydraulic hoist ?
No, I've given allot of thought to one that I could move around but I don't think I'd use it enough to give up the space. Thats probably what everyone says till they get one.
@@buildlife Got it ! Really appreciate the efforts you put out to get us started.
Inspiration
Thanks!
Where'd you get the BigOx work bench?
The long one with the drawers is from Winn Rack - The rolling one with the wood frame I made. Hope that helps, thank for watching!
I just looked, its the Winn Rack one, you can find them on line, they make benches too.
@@buildlife thanks. Googled BigOx and couldn't find it
👍🏝️🇨🇦
where the heck do you live that they have so many zoning restrictions?
Northern Illinois
It’s pretty much all Illinois lol I live in central IL and deal with the same problems!
wow big land
Why tear down a perfectly good building just use it for storage.
It was right in the spot where the new shop needed to go. We stare directly at it out of our home so we wanted a nice looking building. It was just a shell, dirt floor not even electric so it was an easy decision to start new.
Jeezus please edit out music
Right away just for you!
I'm sure I'm not the only one that is Jealous. I'm sure that you put a lot of work into that shop.
That is for sure. It has been my goal to have this shop for 30 years!
The music junked another video 👎💩
Volume is on the left folks. It’s easy to do.
