This transfer window is starting to give me excitement and concerns. If reports are true and concrete that Eriksen, Lindelof and Wan Bissaka are the likely trio to be sold then I believe that's our outgoings sorted. Admittedly I want Maguire to be sold for various reasons,
1. Injuries
2. His wages are 190 grand a week
3. Lack of game time
4. He doesn't suit the way we want to play
5. He's not good enough for United
In relation to Branthwaite there's a lot of ifs and buts. What I would say is Branthwaite signing for Man united would probably mean united won't get De ligt, that's the worst case scenario. All I am saying is the vast majority of fans remain hopeful United sign De Ligt, that just shows which centre back they prefer

If we want to play a high line consistently signing Branthwaite makes no sense. Yoro can't play every game on the right, Maguire will make 30 appearances at least. Sign De Ligt and he can play with Yoro if Martinez gets injured. Yoro next to Braithwaite is too inexperienced
Everton fan here. We're buying O'Brien because we genuinely need depth at CB, even with Branthwaite. Him and Tarkowski (who is currently injured, but not seriously) are our starting 2. We sold Ben Godfrey to Atalanta a few weeks ago, and he was the only other passable CB on our roster. We are trying to get rid of Michael Keane, who is aging and was a sparsely used backup the last couple of seasons and would be a defensive liability even if he were 10 years younger, and Mason Holgate, who spent last season on loan stinking up the field for Southampton and Sheff United. So realistically, we could probably do with another young CB in addition to O'Brien. Buying O'Brien has nothing to do with Branthwaite. I wouldn't read too much into it.
But on top of that, it's nice that viewers of this video are 50/50 on wanting Branthwaite, but I highly doubt that would be relevant to the actual club's decision to buy him or not. What's relevant is Everton's position hasn't weakened or changed just because we've bought O'Brien. If you pay the money, you'll get the player. If not, duces. It's really odd how desperate you are to frame that as a "win" for anyone.

Well technically de ligt has flopped at his last two clubs so I think we are spot on trying to get him for closer to 30m plus add ons. Why should we pay 42m plus for a player who hasn’t been used. If it was united selling him, Bayern would offer 20m. Also it’s really annoying that we are ignoring the midfield. 1 is not enough. Should be focused on the midfield as much as we are with the cb so we can control games which would help defensively and offensively. We should be selling 3 and buying 3. I guarantee mark will realize this once the season starts. I know for a fact that everyone will be complaining about the midfield all next season if we only get 1. It’s really not hard to get rid of Mctominay and Erickson so there’s no excuses to just get one. There’s so many options out there that are better than what we have and who wouldn’t cost much so money shouldn’t be an issue either. A decent board could get it done, this board has a lot of work to do before I have any trust for them. This window has been underwhelming so far, not impressed at all

The thing with Branthwaite is he could stay at Everton and have a phenomenal season. At which point we get priced out when other big club's come calling. And United would be left thinking. "Why didn't we sign him when we had the chance?". Because the asking price might be higher than we want currently. But it's nothing compared to asking price next season if he truly establishes himself as a potential top CB. And I think the odd's of that happening isn't out of the realm of possibility. Branthwaite is a High risk. High reward signing. And I honestly don't know what we should do. But it's now or never.
I'd like us to sign Branthwaite but I don't think Everton signing O'Brien means they're now going to sell Branthwaite to us. I think they've signed O'Brien to replace Godfrey. Logic!

There are a lot of things Mark says he isn't sure about Man Utd's plan re the centre backs and McTominay but I think there is a perspective being overlooked.
The only way we'll get de Ligt is if we sell Maguire at least. If we want to get Branthwaite or another left-sided CB, Lindelof will have to go aswell. So sales are needed.
Re: McTominay, Fulham's offer was £17m, that's far too low. McTominay is worth between £30-40m at least and I think he's closer to the higher end, especially when I see what other PL players are being sold for. Also if McTominay had to stay, he really isn't a bad bench option, no matter how much we know his limitations, he can be used like Fellaini when called upon.
