"The Presidio Album"
This is pure gold. Not about the quality of it, but because represents the darkest time in Metallica. It's visceral shit.
"The entire st anger album" is a masterpiece of black and self destructive depression, sadness and anger
+Movie Mania Most of the lyrics are utter rubbish, though. They don't mean anything.
+Isa ias only a true metallica fan can see the beauty, the meaning, and the message behind this and st anger. you are gifted with my sincere respect
xDark_Alleyx01 x Man, could you be any more pretentious? The lyrics don't mean shit. "My Life style determines my Death style" or "KILL! KILL! KILL!", yeah, such a beautiful message.
Well I have to agree with you there. Those aren't the best Metallica had to offer I don't think. But songs like sweet amber and the unnamed feeling are clever. And both songs I can relate deeply to, as with a lot of other Metallica songs.
12:55
this one moment is more St. Anger than St. Anger is, can't believe it didn't make it's way to the release
I mean the part in All Within My Hands after the bridge is pretty much this, but just James screaming instead of Lars
13:51 FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK
Yo is that Lars?
yup
jaymz I remember that from the documentary*Rockumentary* Some Kind Of Monster
Mr. NormalPuff yeah :D
jaymz lmao
13:51 "Hey Lars. When the drums come in I want you to scream FUCK as loud as you can fucking scream."
Kirk... Kirk... Kirk... Kirk... Kirk... Kirk... Kirk...
Kirk
@@masterthg3137 kirk

The riff that starts at 2:59 is what eventually evolved into the riff you hear in All Nightmare Long, only it's much faster in that song.
Sometimes riffs do that
Wow you’re a massive genius
J M
It might have but it doesn’t change how unique this riff is. If Metallica switched to lower tunings like the other Big4 members we would be seeing a very different, original version of them. At this point they’re just replaying the style that they’ve always played. Even Slayer has done some variation in their last 3 albums. Not thematically, but tone wise megadeth has been way heavier, anthrax has become a gem mine for guitar tones, and Metallica hasn’t changed one bit, which sucks.
@@topsecret1837 lmao what
It sounds more like a Load or Reload song here.
It's not fair. I want to have that album instead of Lulu.
Le Bublerkin LuLu was garbage
I like that album really , especially the songs cheat on me and dragon are my favorite
Lulu has some underated gems on it, and some great riffs.
but then we wouldn't have james hetfield table memes
This isn’t fair. 🤬
There are some riffs here that are absolutely magnificent.
14:00 would make the pit jump up and down. Probably more than most songs at a Metallica concert. Coming from a die hard fan too
+The Monopoly Guy especially if Jason Newsted was the one yelling "FUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK!!" live
The Monopoly Guy That sounds almost like a Meshuggah riff
makes me wish st anger was a double album, they could of made these songs work
@@justindtrout Agreed, Metallica was flowing with a lot of ideas at the time.
13:01 this transition into the riff is badass
they buried this in the same landfill as the E.T. atari cartridge......
bcherbs So true
bcherbs too soon
They speed up the shadow of the Cross riff and use in All nightmare long
That got dug up eventually! Maybe the same will happen with these songs...
Ha ha ha!!!!! Good one
At 1:30 James sounds like he is screaming inside an Echo Chamber, if I was his adviser I would say "Delete That".
I say that as I stroke my beard.
metal gandalf
Lars father said that
You stole that from Lars father
I actualy love that. Sounds like A Perfect Circle
Sounds psychedelic at some points
ikr giving me tool vibes
theres some stoner metal even on the album
@@YTSPoster That's an insult to Tool and their pretentious fans.
It's like Alice in Chains' self titled album gone nu metal.
If Shadows of the Cross was polished, the song would be a absolute banger. The riff is really good
the main riff of Shadows of the Cross has been used (with some updates) in the demo song Flamingo, later known as All nightmare long, where it was further updated from its demo version
@@davidebasile9422 yeah, I actually forgot about that!
@@davidebasile9422Sounds so much better here than it does in ANL though. Even though I love ANL.
@@ianwakers I remember during the making of ANL, Rick Rubin asked to speed up the whole song (the demo version had only the tail with fast tempo). This is when they changed the original riff of Shadow of the cross, which was still intact in Flamingo.
@@davidebasile9422I feel like Rubin is why almost all of the groove from the demos disappeared on the final record. I really like most of the demo versions better, even though I still love DM.
This album is helping me get through to sobriety. Thank you James, Lars, and Kirk.
8:55 it's also called "james's return " ;you can also find it with this name over yt
13:51 that's lars screaming his lungs to the floor( from the movie)lmao
10:39 Wish James did this more often, absolutely love it!
very good vocals
Fun fact: "More Than This" was actually chopped up and used as a Ja Rule song called "We Did It Again". There's a deleted scene from Some Kind of Monster where Swizz Beatz and Ja Rule come into Metallica's studio to hear what they're working on and they fall in love with that song and decide to use it for their song.
I love this it’s so dark and trippy, they should do more psychedelic stoner metal like this
How is no one talking about how fucking awesome the breakdown at 13:03 is??
Yah its definitely gross! Absolutely love it. That was heavy
I can't tell if that Kirk with a wah, or Robert with a (possible) fuzz wah? 😮
@@2009XboxLiveKidRobert Trujillo didn’t join Metallica yet it was bob rock he had to play bass after Jason left
@@pedroa.c7902 I thought they picked him up during the demo days
The Echo Chamber song was my favorite.
i really really really really really really really don't think so
Delete that.
😂😂😂 it sorta feels like a machinehead album from that intro
@@537Aleks - Ulrich Torben
I like Shadows Of The Cross not only because it sounds more like a full song than a patchwork song, the riff is also used in Here Comes Revenge from Hardwired
1.- Echo Chamber: An opening song for a very dark album is perfect, if that was the intro of St. Anger, Frantic would have more popularity than the song St anger.
2.- Shadow of the Cross: An awesome name and also an awesome riff, its sad that this song wasnt in the album and my world yes, an awesome project
3.- More than this: A song like My world, very simple vocals and the sound effects of the chorus is very deafining, the good thing of the song is the another riff after the chorus, that riff would be awesome in st anger.
4.- Surfing the zeitgeist: An awesome name, a very good intro fot the song, very accurate to the name, the riff with james vocals is very good, and james/lars part also is a good riff, a very experimental song full of great ideas.
5.-The Boogeyman song: fuuuuuuuucking good song for this album with a very good riff, like a Korn song, very dark and fast pace, also with a gift: Purify.
6.-Aint Asked no more: A lot of ideas for a song, also dudu by miles ulrich
7.-Temptation: Well how do i start this review, "Delete that" and a lot of dad Ulrich phrases here, is very dark and bad, i know is a unreleased album, but for a band called metallica this song is very experimental and so raw.
8.- Unbridled: Lars getting pissed because he can play the drums, also kirk, and fuck, the good part of this song is the bridge of the main riff.
9.- Dead Kennedy Rolls: What the hell, its a very awesome song that would had to be in the main st anger album, is very fast, very good, a pure gold in the projects of st anger, an awesome song that sadly didnt saw the light
My review, after a year posting this comment, i can say that the presidio album and st anger is somekind of therapeutical phase of metallica, llsing jason, james rehab, the friction of the cameras recording, also working in the time when the nu metal was destroying the classical metal and 9/11 thats the reason why st anger is what it is, i love the 2 albums as well, very emotional and cut to the chase, no secrets, just explicit and raw sound also the lyrics, just that, Holy St anger
actually, lars’ dad said to delete „echo chamber”, not temptation. temptation was almost released as a regular song on st. anger, but james was outvoted
This is so raw and angry. Surprised they never did much with the stuff here. Sure, some of it is amateur sounding and down right angst, but it has so much potential. Especially echo chamber
maybe echo chamber would have gotten on, if lars dad was out fishing or something instead of giving lars advice.
And 'temptation'..😎
@@666soumya temptation sucks reallyyyyyyyy hard

still would love to hear an official release of Temptation.

WAW WAW WAW WAW WAW WALALALOOOOAW
Shadows of the Cross is actually a fucking good song
Some riffs are really good! They deserve to be taken, produced and released.
1:21 absolutely beautiful intro
another thing i noticed: there are solos...
New Metallica single "If Darkness Had A Son" uses some lyrics from Temptation!
Thought it sounded familiar!!! Good catch.
1:57 - 5:00 The embrio of All Nightmare Long
Hopefully we get this long lost record in the St Anger boxset by 2024 or 2025 the latest. It’ll be like getting a new album only a couple years after the current one they’re working on now. And these songs were finished too. Just not chosen because some weren’t as aggressive as the St Anger tunes. It’ll be like getting the album that sits between Reload and St Anger.
I absolutely love this it has such a strange depressing vibe which I can’t explain and I love it
Dead Kennedy Rolls is so badass!
Ain't it tho
Echo Chamber is actually a great opener. Don't care what Torben Ulrich thinks, this could've brought some kind of psychedelic taste to Metallica.
9:42 Put the speed on 2 and you've got a kickass riff.
Florrmat is an amazing Pike, The ending of Part 2 where it's only the guitar riff gone solo is perfect. Seen the newest pike? It's very similar to Florrmat.
Mr.Slendykins Sockman YEAAAAAAH!!!
Some of these have good sounding riffs, All Nightmare Long has a similar sound to "Shadows Of The Cross"
M3TALLICAxD IT probably is a remade version of this song...
M3TALLICAxD Shadows of the cross sounds simmilar to All Nightmare long, especially when All Nightmare Long is played live and downtuned.
All Nightmare Long's riff is actually Shadows Of The Cross flipped / reversed.
+Lee Taylor Lol I was listening to the demo for 'All Nightmare Long' It sounds like the same riff.
It is the same riff, it's not flipped, just altered and played faster.
10:58 is a killer ass riff
Heavy af
Sounds like some Crowbar

This should've been like a Beyond Magnetic type album, it is just so good
13:51 - I have this as my ringtone for when my girlfriend calls.

@@Negostrike Already doing it. Who do you think your mother has been seeing?
TEMPTATION is thee most emotional stuff Ive ever heard from James.
yes but this songs still sucks
I only knew of the snippets of this in Some Kind of Monster. I didn't know there were more fleshed out versions of these floating around the internet. I'd love to see them do an official release of these sessions at some point. Maybe as like a bonus on the eventual St. Anger deluxe reissue.
idk how people say this sucks, it was the darkest time in the bands history. this shit is so deep and meaningful to how they were all feeling at the time. i personally think st anger is definitely one of the most personal metallica albums. and it fucking rocks
ndmetallicafreak92 St.Anger is my favorite album of all time. Hell presidio is a cool little demo itself
Really wish a few of these song ideas would have been hammered out to fruition. Shadows of the Cross, Surfing the Zeitgeist and Dead Kennedys Roll have the makings of damn good songs.
I see they ripped the riff from dead Kennedy rolls as the main riff for st anger
Shadows of the Cross became All Nightmare Long
Those and Temptation are great demos.
I remember seeing this when I first joined UA-cam . This plays kinda like a lucid dream . Where everything is vaguely familiar , and completely alien at the same time . Kinda like hearing “Robbin the Hood” for the first time . These were the demos before they made St Anger ?? They coulda made a well sounding muddy album along the lines of Alice In Chains or something and it woulda been totally fine .
I wish we had real versions of these songs . But to be perfectly honest , the world woulda probably hated it anyway . It was around this time the new generation of metal heads was emerging , and it was time for something new . It was Metallica’s time to be hated .
this is a pretty cool demo/unfinished album
While obviously it’s not very good (atleast compared to the end product we got, which was St. Anger)
There is some sweet riffs and other cool stuff that I enjoyed (Shadows Of The cross, Surfing the zeitgeist, dead Kennedy rolls)
It’s a honestly surreal experience but it’s not a bad one by any means...
I’d still prefer this over Lulu tbh...
I wish Shadows of the Cross was on Hardwired. C'mon guys...
Hey bro... you know it became 'All Nightmare Long' !? Even still.. I LOVE that nasty, bluesy riff as it was here.
I don't hear it.
I think he means the riff at 2:59. Push the speed up and it sounds similar to the riff from at about 1:16 in All Nightmare Long. That's about it I think.
Now that this thing is speeding ahead at one and a half times the speed, an enlightening warmth of wisdom fills my mind, especially at 5:01 and 7:19.
The riff at 2:59 was used in All Nightmare Long demo (Flamingo), and was changed around in the final version of ANL.
21:23 so hilarious and iconic😂😂
Wow this rabbit hole just keeps going deeper. This stuff is so precious
20:34 "I'm used to having the drummer do... the beat part"
I've uttered those same words to my drummer Grant. They purpously do that just to troll the riff. Drummers are ass!
You're just sitting here..being a complete dick!
20:51 - 21:06
I remember hearing that chord progression when I watched the Some Kind of Monster documentary and I was like, "Dude, that's beautiful!" It's such a shame that it never developed into a full song :(
5:48 sounds like Confusion
Mike.Iscapari229
It sounds really confusing sounding
Father, please come homeeee.
"I think it sounds fucking stock, which part of that its unclear to you? do you want me to fuckin write it down?"
Dead Kennedy Rolls is just awesome, better than anything in SA. Really wish they made it into a full song.
Sounds like Crackerman by STP
I think if James didn't go to rehab, much of the album would be alot more dark and murky sounding like "Echo Chamber", who was suggested as an opening early in the recording process and "Temptation" etc. Would probably be awsome if they got some decent production and more time.
If he didnt go to rehab, then maybe Metallica would not exist anymore or he could have died because of his addiction dude.
@@dylanvermie1925 yeah a lot of people talk about rehab like a bad thing. Some sick fans are just implying they would prefer to see his life all fucked up instead of the great progress he did. I assume none of them have been alcoholics or have any family with addictions.
@@fatimapalacios2292 As cruel as this might sound, I totally get what they mean, because James is more capable when he has access to alcohol. Note what happened about when you wrote that comment: James started drinking again, and that's when he got some extra growl to his voice live, the performances became more energetic again, etc.
Alcohol is his fuel, but it burns him out if used for too long.
@@lred1383 Yes. But the mere thought of that is preposterous. Why say that? It's better to just... Shut up
@@lred1383 He was drinking when he recorded this stuff, and with the exception of about three riffs it all sucks. Powerhousing booze all the time is fun as a young man, but after a certain age it just starts to get sad.

I Hear them since i had fifteen years old and now i'm fourty three.
Metallica rules metal scene.
This collection is a solid reminder that if you feel your bands demos and songs aren't quite gelling, it happens to every band even the biggest
The Lords of THRASH METAL, yes, they are & they'll always be!
1:39 "Delete that." - Torben Ulrich
13:04 holy shit that riff. I want to see a fucking audience bounce up and down to that!!!
Go to a Limp Bizkit conert and you'll get tons of riffs like that...
HUGE Metallica fan and didn’t know about this… wtf. There’s some good stuff on here too.
Love that bass riff in temptation!!!
I think they put some of the wrong songs on st.anger
The ending of Echo Chamber when James does the oohhhh ehhhh stuff is awesome. I heard it on Some Kind Of Monster and really hopped it would be a song.
Thank you for making it and uploading...
echo chamber... "echobrain".. anybody?..
? no? oh.. ok.
Nice beat 20:34
+ToMmEsTeA Soooooo creatiiiive
Crazy to think that beat almost killed Metallica
I think it sounds stock
Shadows of the cross Vocals kind of reminds of Bad Seed
Matt White I know you said this 2 years ago but how In the fuck. It's all nightmare long

WHICH PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?
14:41 why it sounds so similar to the Outlaw Torn outro 😅?
Holy crap this sounds like a Limp Bizkit record.
TRaUMA Holy shit.
The whole St. Anger also sounded nu-metalish, which is cool for me.
TRaUMA
Especially at 13:59
Lars was obsessed with that Limp Bizkit shit during this era
that was on the mtv icon special for metallica
we used to go get drunk and stone across the street from the presidio.my school was a block away from the exploratorium. .drinking and listening to metallica with all my frisco friends..good all days
Oh my fucking god!! I been wanting to hear Temptation for forever!!! Thanks for uploading this you fucking legend!!!
Some of these songs had some real potential, at certain points I can almost hear a bit of dark ambiance and industrial influences which I think would have been a good avenue for them to peruse as opposed to the abortion that St. Anger became.
Echo Chamber is the most non Metallica thing ever and I REALLY like it
From what I've heard this is some of the better new age Metallica content that had released from that time. I'd actually enjoy hearing a proper studio recorded version of this
20:45 is so fucking stock
Oh I see, gotcha!!! Never heard of this album before!!!
1:40, 8:11 and 12:12 cool Load-ish intros right there.
Also Echo Chamber really sets the tone for this demo compilation.
Need more of this, it’s so evocative. Sets the tone for the heaviness about to come.
idk but I really like the vibe of Echo Chamber
First song has a Type O vibe i want the full version
Hearing the band calling kirk in the unbridled intro was funny as hell
i wish metallica would release the presidio album in its entirety but i think it would bring back some bad memories for james especially cause this time was a rough part of his life. these songs are so deep
Echo chamber would be awesome
wtf with ads? There was literally like 10 ads...
tokphys Then get UA-cam Red and stop bitching
UA-cam Red was made for dumbasses.
Or wait until it gets copyright claimed like I did, no ads here
For me where there was supposed to be ads it was just black spaces
Ublock Origin is your friend.
Their best album. Love it!
Shadows of the cross has a cool riff. Always liked that.
The opening to the boogeyman seriously feels like it should be in a 90s B horror movie
Some of the riffs sound a lot like COC or Down, like, really good southern sludgey stuff. It's disappointing that stuff wasn't released.
You forgot to mention another band
Walk on home, boy
Это прям откровение! Почему они не выпустили этот материал.. Получился бы очень не плохой альбом. Мне одно время снился альбом Metallica из параллельной реальности. Вышедший в периоде между ReLoad и St.Anger.
Ого, а подробней можно?
How people get these songs if they're not released godamit
+Eddie Hunter 666 I believe that they are taken from various clips of Metallica working on music.
wrong
unfortunately you're wrong
there are alot of imports you can buuy, metallica has always been good about releasing one off stuff only over seas

not in this case though.
I’d be very curious to hear those 20 of so songs that didn’t get the approval to be on st anger. I forget the exact number, but there’s a fair amount that never got released.
And I’d love to hear a full DKRolls and Temptation.
you can hear "we did it again" (more than this); unnamed feeling; sweet amber; st.anger... and allready mentioned all nigtmare long... so they release some of this...i'm glad that didn't release album like this, just few good part
