- Hello and welcome. Today we take a look at the @sigsauerinc P220 Legion SAO (single action only). We don't find many videos on UA-cam about this awesome pistol and I've only seen a handful of them at local gun shops. Would you consider this as a 1911 alternative? What are your thoughts on the P220 Legion SAO? I look forward to your comments.
Thank you for stopping by and God Bless.

My fiancé has one of these in 10 mm. I don't know why, but it has the standard curved shoe trigger, and it's an sao model. It's heavy like hell cause it's a stainless steel frame as opposed to a metal alloy. I have the 226 Sao model, and it's my pillow gun. One of the absolute best shooting guns I own.
I would actually make the argument that the SiG P220 Legion is a viable 1911 alternative for a few reasons.
1) Durability. The 1911 can get as damaged ejector if you smash the magazine too harshly when the slide is locked back from an empty magazine, and you can in many cases damage a 1911 entirely by dropping the slide on an empty chamber. You don't have those issues with modern pistols like the Beretta 92 or SiG P22X series like you do the 1911.
2) Reliability. 1911s are not as reliable as most modern stuff under harsh conditions. That's just the way this works. The SiG P226 and P220 have LEGENDARY reliability, and these days with less cleaning, any modern gun will be more reliable than a 1911 that hasn't been as well taken care of and babied.
The 1911 I don't wanna say it's fragile, but it kind of is in comparison to a Glock, Walther PDP, CZ-75, SiG P22X, Beretta 92, Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0.... anything else out there right now.
All very good points. That’s exactly why I purchased it. I wanted to see if it would be a viable substitute for a 1911. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Great video! Awesome call about cleaning making a difference - 1,000% agree!!
Yes! Thank you!
Love the point about simple cleaning, along with reliability over 1911
WOW. This is lovely. I originally wanted a P226 Legion.. but watching your video, and I'm a .45ACP guy more so than 9mm. I will try to hunt down a P220 Legion because this catches my attention a lot. Thank you Sir.
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching!
Both in your comment section are Excellent!! B9USA Sr.
@@CZ9mmUSA thank you very much for stopping by my friend!
Hi Guys!! This is another Excellent Pistol that I do not own, but I have all the DA/SA Legions and I enjoy them tremendously!! Thanks for the Video and you stay safe Sir!

Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen any in depth videos on this.
@Tucco you’re very welcome. I was surprised on the limited availability of videos on this wonderful handgun. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Nice review! I'm a fan of Sig and a fan of single action autos, too. If only Sig would have released their SAOs sooner, I'd probably (still) be carrying one today. 👍👍
It is a favorite of mine. Thank you for watching!
@@MDpolostill have it? Any interest in trading for a P210 carry?
@@user-jv4ic8rh4d regrettably I don’t have it anymore. I would love to do that trade.
Great through review.
I'm addicted to the Sig metal P22x models( 5 so far) with their full length slide rails. I live just 49.3 miles from Sig HQ so I shop local. ✌️⚖️🗽☮️🇺🇲
Nice and convenient!
I really appreciate this video. My local shop has an unfired P220 legion SAO that was the owner's (probably one he earned on points for Sig sales) for under $1k. I keep debating Sig vs. HK for my next handgun purchase. I do prefer 45 to 9 although I shoot both and I really. Something about the quality of the P220 and the HK USP keeps bringing me back to looking at them.
They are both fantastic and very well-made. You can’t go wrong either way. To me, the P220 SAO is an alternative to a 1911. Thank you very much for stopping by.
OMG ❤🎯😍
Yea, pretty sweet. Thank you for watching!
I do have the P220 Legion SAO 45acp and I love it. Smooth action while shooting is a plus. The slide release on all the Legions (Classic Lines) are hard to actuate. So I do the over hand rack. I was fortunate late last year to get the P220 Legion SAO in 10mm and it's a tack driver. Slide and barrel a bit longer. Great review as always sir! 👍
Excellent for sure!

@Keanon Gilliam Thank you very much my friend. I always appreciate your insight. God bless.
@CZ9mmUSA thank you very much, my friend!
great system and trigger. Thinking about buying this next. The 226 and 229 are legit in SAO, I have the 10MM legion SAO, however the trigger is dif. I am wanting the 45 next, thanks to your video lol. Great review!
You’re very welcome. All of the ones you mentioned are awesome. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Just picked one of these up. Fantastic gun
They are pretty awesome. Congratulations and thank you for stopping by.
Just bought one yesterday and shot it today. Love it.
Congratulations. They are awesome. Thank you for stopping by.
I had one. It was nice, but FOR ME, I felt like there was nothing it did that was better than the 1911. It was slightly lighter, but it was bigger and clunkier. Mags are harder to find and they were around $50 if I remember correctly. Decided to move it on to a new owner. If I ever buy another Sig, it’ll be the P226 SAO. That’s my favorite gun that Sig makes and it’s an incredible shooter.
Yea, the P226 Legion SAO is one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for watching!
A big advantage over 1911 is takedown. And it is also ultra-reliable.
I owned the P220 in the past, sold it. Looking to get the legion series of the P220. But I too would take my 1911's over the P220. But I still want a P220.
This one is pretty awesome. Thank you for watching!
Very interesting review! I like the Sig pistols I own. They are all chambered in 9mm. I'd like to try one in 45 ACP.
@James Carter I suggest you try this one. Sweet pistol. Worth every penny. As always, thank you very much for stopping by.
@@MDpolo I look forward to the opportunity. And you're welcome. My pleasure.
The flat trigger is such an improvement of the 226 and 229! My only wish is to get one 226 in 40 S&W...👌
That would be a sweet shooter. Thank you very much for stopping by.
I have a Sig P226 SAO. It is about perfect for a full size 9mm. I have some really nice 1911s, but I love my 226 so much , maybe I need one of these. I was thinking about a H&K USP 45 ACP as well. Thanks for the video.
You are most welcome and you cannot go wrong with any of the handguns you mention. The P226 SAO is one of my all-time favorites. Thank you very much for stopping by.
I own P220 SAO, and a USP .45. Honestly Sig feels better, and the added weight takes much of the recoil away. Good luck with either
the Black Legions are LE version, I own both the 226 & 229 in black & yes they came with the grips without the emblem on them. So i had just ordered the regular legion grips for them.
Very cool. Thank you for stopping by.
Just found a great deal on a used one for $999. It’s going to be hard to beat my TRP Operator trigger! It’s my favorite .45
Congratulations. That is a very good deal. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Same capacity as a 1911 but bigger in width. Steels are just an Fe-C alloy. If Iron has the highest weight-% overall and it has usually less than 2 weight-% carbon, that's a steel. 'Stainless Steel' is just amazing marketing for NiCr steels. Check the slide weights of the commander and the 220.
Have you tried a CZ 97BD? Sadly no longer made.
Does the 1911 have full length slide rails ? Like all metal Sigs ?? I like the firing group components in the Sig better than 1911. Simpler design, and simpler field strip design as you stated 👍👍 love my new old stock P227 Elite ✌️
I saw that black Legion in 9 mm at a gun store in Phila pa about 4 or 5 months ago. New
I have yet to see one live.
If you can't drop the slide it's a slide lock if you can it's a release 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
My wife has this. She prefers the grip as shes petite under 5 foot 3. tiny hands. for her its a better fit and form factor. she likes the Sig
One of my all-time favorites for sure. Thank you for stopping by.
@MDpolo Gun Channel
Check out the 'Kratos 1911' of M-Arms, made in collaboration with Phoenix!
Will do. Thank you very much!
Trigger travel ruined it for me, same trave/creep I've seen on other youtube videos.
I also have some creep with my 220 but after having matched parts from different guns, I've reduced the creep to almost non-existence. In addition to a matched srt oem kit, my p220 trigger hast strong/positive/tactical/quick reset that's all very smooth with a skinny/srt trigger.
I like the single action safety layout so I can have my high grip and not having slide not locking back, but that legion sao trigger set up is not for me. I would put a stronger/smoother trigger kit in.
Sig trigger srt is mighty good but a 1911 trigger is king due to design.
I have the p226 legion, ill be ordering the p229 legion sao and p220 legion sao
Nice choices!
I'd pick this P220 SAO over a 1911 on reliability alone. It's simply a more reliable design. I love the looks, history, and trigger of a good 1911, but from a functional standpoint, the SIG P22X series is superior.
The Sig is going to be way more reliable than a regular 1911
I really enjoy this firearm. Thank you for stopping by.
Hello!
I actually just purchased one myself yesterday. However, I am finding it extremely difficult to insert a magazine into the magwell. With my limited troubleshooting, I've found that I have to hold the magazine release button in in order to be able to insert the magazine. I've never run into this issue before. Has anyone else encountered this?
I have absolutely zero issues with mine. I would contact Sig right away.
@@MDpolo I've reached out to Sig via their website and am awaiting a response from them!

What did they say?
Is there an sig 45 with easier slide release?.?
Not that I’m aware of. Perhaps a viewer can chime in with better information. Thank you for stopping by.
You have to register the Legion and then you get the Legion zip up case and coin
Yes. I did that and received the items you mentioned. Thank you very much for stopping by.
Newer ones are now milled for a red dot.
Yes, that definitely is a plus. One of my all-time favorite pistols. Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
How is this drop safe?
Zero issues. I’ve never heard of one having a drop safe issue. That was happening to the P320 series.
@@MDpolo Thank you. But there is no grip safety, so how is it designed to be drop safe? Thank you for the video. Well done.
Drop safety ?
Read the Owner's Manual
It tells you all about it
It's on line, simple.
Law enforcement uses this pistol?!?
