My main fear of doing a my own petition and not using is a lawyer is if i get rejected. Does that minimise my ability to reapply or reapply with a lawyer? Simply, does being potentially rejected put you in a worse position if you re-apply or stop you from re-appling?

No, you should choose one or the other, do not do both. Usually I recommend using Advanced Degree because it is just easier to meet, then move on to the 3 prongs

The email stated that the Affidavit of Support requirement for my case is incomplete and that I need to submit the requested form(s) and financial evidence as indicated on the checklist. Since I'm currently outside the USA, I'm not sure what steps I should take next. Do you have any advice on how to proceed? What should I do in this case ?

No travel history is needed for I-140. Only nonimmigrant info if you have been granted US visas.

You can reapply as many times as you want with or without a lawyer. So no, it doesn't affect your chances
