I found a great set of videos that cover making a cuff from picking out your leather to finishing those frayed edges. Check out Weaver Leather supply's videos on youtube. Chapter5 is on Making a Leather Bracelet Chapter 5: Adding Dye, Antique and Top Coat and covers slicking the edges.
You can purchase half and quarter circular punches. If you are making the same width every time, the proper half round punch & one hammer swing and "bang"... done. You can buy 1", 1.5", 2"
Informative video. Consider having your camera on a rolling tripod to prevent the bouncing effects. Also, close-up shots with more lighting would allow viewers to see what you are doing.
I would like to know if there a website you can direct me to the type of leather that you use? It would greatly be appreciated. Love your jewelry by the way!
great video! have you tried a rototary cutter? I find they are great for leather, and low cost. I can easily cut four layers if thick seude quickly and precisely.
Did you try replacing the blade on your strap cutter? or trying a different strap cutter? I respect your edge issue but your new process seems like it takes a lot of time. Though I dig your results so likely its worth it. Just curious. thanks for posting.
Hi Elizabeth- great tutorial. My question is about the bracelet YOU are wearing: how did you put the silver circle on? It's hard to see but I'm guessing it was sewn on. If so, could you tell me what you used? TY!
Can you please share what cutting tool you use? Blades? I can't seem to find one sharp enough to cut in above smooth line... Any help would be amazing- thank you!!! ☺️
Hello, thanks for the tutorial. LOVE your Vizsla, Milo, they are the BEST dogs, I have one too :) I make leather bracelets and earrings, and have been looking for the clasp you showed in this video, curious, what is the clasp called? Where can I purchase some? Thank you for all you do! Best, Reesa
Hi. I think the clasp is called a "ball hitch fastener" I saw these on Amazon - Tim Holtz Idea-ology Hitch Fasteners or they are also called "stud screws" or "screw knob rivets" or "monk head screws" on AliExpress.com. I haven't tried them yet, but they seem to be like the ones used on the bracelet in this video. I'm also not sure of the size (mm) used on the bracelet in the video. Hope this helps.
I just stumbled across your comment. XD You could be talking about snaps, but if you mean the ones on the bracelet at 5:00, I think they're called leather ball closures.
Lizzy Plumb???? hahah This is Lucy Rector Kellogg, I decided I wanted to start making my own leather bracelets/cuffs purchased some supplies and leather while in Omaha, NE on vacation. I jumped on to youtube to find a tutorial and short cuts and was watching you and ....... I'm like she looks familiar!!! This is you right? My old neighbor?
Doing well! I have a couple of questions about your experience working with leather. Have you used a sewing machine to embellish with stitches etc. If so, do you have some tips on what kind of machine, thickness of leather, or any tips? I'm just playing around with some for personal use.
