It’s a fantastic knot and definitely one of my favorites BUT there are some drawbacks. 1) For me, it’s very difficult and time consuming to tie on the water after a breakoff. Maybe I need more practice but for tying an FG I need prep time 2) It doesn’t work well if you’re using PowerPro super slick or similar braid 3) Even if you’re not using a slick or super slick braid, it doesn’t work very well when tying on light leaders for “finess” purposes Again, I like the FG knot and you’ll find it on probably half my setups. But for those situations I described above I prefer an Albright knot. But before that, I definitely used a double uni a LOT
The double uni has never failed me. I can’t say that with the FG, Alberto or Yucatán knots. They’re all great knots, but the Double Uni is my first pick
As always, love your knots! I know you didn’t mention it, but I wanted to ask you about the SC knot! Take a minute and look at that tell me what you think. Definitely one of the most narrow knots that is easily pulled into the guides or casted through them. The reason I like it is it seems to be easier to cinch it down with such small braid lines. I’ve had the FG come loose on a good fish when I thought I had cinched it down enough. With the SC I caught a 38 inch snook and over 60 pound tarpon this past weekend with no issues. Thanks again for all that you do for the inshore fisherman.
Do yourself a favor and practice the fg knot until you know it well. You can't beat it for joining braid to mono. IMHO
I would have you agree that the FG is very hard to beat!

Love the double uni knot. Easy to tie on windy days in rough conditions. Never thought about doubling up the braid. Thanks for that piece of advice.
Anytime you have lighter weight braids with heavier leader material… doubling braid is the way to go

Sometimes when it's super windy out there I'll just tie a surgeons knot.
Thats another simple yet solid option
Great video! Double uni served me well for a LONG time until I learned to the Albright and FG. Still use it sometimes when I’m pressed for time
It’s a solid knot for most anglers, no doubt about it
do you have any land based or kayak/SUP fishing courses in your Flats Class University?
We are going to have a course focused on your request coming later this year!
Just tied the double uni for the first time and I'm really impressed with street gth.

I will look into this one for sure
