  • The weeds have been sprayed, the soil has been turned and the trees are now in the ground after another successful year for Landcare across West Gippsland.
2022 was a big year in terms of outcomes and activities, but we’re also seeing a pretty positive mood among Landcare groups with close to 70% reporting their groups are in a good space after the disruption of the COVID-19 years.
In terms of numbers, 2022 saw:
    • more than 2,000 hectares of weed control
    • over 2000 kilometres of fencing erected
    • almost 3,000 hectares of fox control work and
    • 332 hectares of remnant vegetation protected.
There are 77 Landcare groups across West Gippsland that operate under five geographically based Networks and each of those groups contribute hundreds of volunteer hours to protect and improve West Gippsland’s natural environment.
More than 27,000 volunteer hours were achieved in 2022 covering not just on ground works such as weed management and fencing but also administration, planning and training.
Over the 12 months, the five Landcare Networks delivered projects to the value of $1.2 million, which is a fabulous outcome for a series of largely volunteer organisations.
This short video highlights some of the achievements made locally.
We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of this Country, the Gunaikurnai and to their rich culture and spiritual connection to Country.
