I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 15 years and been singing since I was 16. I teach from my own studio and also teach and mentor via email, and online via Live & Skype. Mel B had a *stunning* voice at the start of her career. She had such deep, sultry notes that added so much to that first album and its R&B vibe; Last Time Lover and If You Can't Dance, especially.
Mel’s voice is so much nicer when she sings in a lower tone rather than when she sings higher.
Yes MelB she is the most hard working among the group.. a singer, host reality show, judge, stage play singer, actress, manager everything.. shes even responsible for their 20th reunion.. amazing woman
Yesss Mel B's deep voice together eith z great harmony of other 4 girls was always something that made Spice Girls so unique and pleasurable to listen to❤
It’s pretty rare to find someone who ranks Victoria higher than Geri and it’s cool to see coming from a vocal coach since I always thought Geri was the weakest Spice Girl vocal wise. Your list is the same exact as mine. :). I agree whole heartedly with what you said about Mel B as well. Mel C is just incredible. X3. She and Emma were always my favorites.
Victoria actually does have a more pleasant voice than Geri. Geri sounds like she's talking when she's singing.
I've always ranked Victoria above Geri.
Her low harmonies are really nice when she doubles up with Mel B
Victoria knows how to harmonize...Geri does not. Competition over.
Victoria has always been a better vocalist than Geri. Victoria struggled with her vocal control (why she was great some places and not great in other places) but Geri never truly sang. Geri mostly talked during her songs.
Geri had more control over her vocals though. Even though she couldn't carry a tune, her voice appears clear and stronger.

Mel c "sporty spice" always was the strongest, most technical and unique voice in the spice girls. Hands down.
Her voice has become very nasal throughout the years, though. Her voice was so smooth in songs like Stop or Too Much and now she sounds like a cat.

Mel C has always had the strongest voice out of the group. I frequently listen to her solo stuff. I agree, she’s got a unique voice.
Definitely Mel C is best. I really like how distinctive her voice is as well. Mel C's also done the musical theatre thing, playing Mary Magdalen in Jesus Christ Superstar. I liked her for that, because that's not particularly easy and showed she has acting chops as well. Victoria's done very well with the business side of things and that's something Geri gave her a lot of credit for - Geri said nobody was ever going to be able to rip the Spice Girls off with Victoria in the band.
I'm not sure who I'd put last out of Geri and Victoria. Geri did a lot better when it came to record sales and chart positions I think, but I think that was achieved more by Geri being such an unstoppable force of nature than her being a better singer. A PR team would have found Geri quite easy to sell because she was so good at selling herself (that sounds wrong), probably the easiest because of her charisma and naughtiness. Victoria was never a crowd-pleaser and was really quite shy, hence why she was the pouty, standoffish Posh Spice character.
Both of them did live performances as you've shown, and I think good on them for trying, because that must have been incredibly scary, especially since they both knew they weren't top vocalists and knew they'd also get slated no matter what they did.

Mel C was always practicing and training her voice. Working out and singing, eating right...Vocals survived the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s

I think emma and mel c had the best voices by far. the others were hard to tell apart from each other at times.

Mel C all the way! 'Northern Star' was a massive solo success and she has done better than all the others put together as a solo artist! Lovely voice whether Rock or ballad.

Without a doubt Melanie C. 😎 Talent wise. Amazing, true vocalist.
Emma comes second. Very soft voice and has bigger range as a vocalist than Mel B, Victoria and Geri. Mel B used to have one of the most beautiful harmonies in the group. The live version of Viva Forever on one of the tours between her and Melanie C.
Victoria and Geri are definetely the weakest talent but both are very popular and they have a good share of star power within the group and personality.

Mel B her voice is very underrated. Its probably true that she had not had much training but during the Spice Girls she had this beautiful low tone you couldnt miss. It sounded very dark, very gorgeous
You can say that in the song "Stop" you hear Mel C and Emma but they got famous with the song WANNABE wich is a Mel B song!! Wannabe is Mel B and Mel B is Wannabe.

Totally agree. Mel B added the depth and soul to the overall tone of the group. Emma B was the sparkle and clarity of the sound. Whereas Mel C is huuuugely overrated IMO. ‘Winey’ is putting it mildly! 😅

I think that the skill levels are closer than we think, if Victoria had more confidence and gusto, she could probably have done better, and if Geri had learned to hold back more and focus on vocal discipline, she would have done better. Mel B. is still quite strong in my opinion, and I've heard some rough live performances by Emma, granted though it tends to happen when she's singing solo and attempted to dance. Back in 2019 though in their mini-tour, all the girls I thought did quite well! Of course, the one singer of the group that was always consistently good was Mel C., and it makes sense! The other 4 girls say that she was always the disciplinarian of the group who took practice and rehearsals the most seriously. During the rehearsals for the 2007 tour, there's a rehearsal clip of her scolding the girls and gently reminding them to take things seriously. She's a very hard working woman!
EDIT: That said, I think I mostly agree with your list, and if you gave bonus points for the girls who sang harmony (Victoria often taking low harmony and Emma virtually always taking the high harmony) the list makes sense to me.
Melanie C for best vocalist obviously then Mel B and Emma then Victoria and then Geri. Geri makes up for it though with her personality, creativity and passion.

1. Mel C, as what most non Spice fans would say, "the only one who can sing." The only one who still has a music career.
I love powerful voices like Whitney, Mariah or Celine Dion so for me, Mel C's tone is pleasant and distinct. She is top tier.

Yup. Melanie C is the one with a real musical talent and have loved her solo career. Her back catalogue has some real stand outs. She's really built her own audience and is in her element on stage with her band in tow.
The other girls are wonderful as part of the group as they were about something more than just musical ability.

I thought too Mel C is the strongest. But Emma has wide range as well. Their duet "I Know Him So Well" is amazing and same when they do "2 Become 1" together. But over all, 5 of them singing together produces magic!
Completely agree. Back when they were at their heights in the late 90s, I would have put Mel B in second place and Emma third, but not any more. Also, I always thought Geri was vocally the weakest even though Victoria was often regarded by many as the worst singer of the group. Yet Geri was probably the most popular member before she originally left. Mel C as best vocalist has never been in doubt. Really interesting analysis, thanks!
To me, it always has to be 1. Melanie C, 2. Emma bunton (but MelC & Emma are so close) 3. Mel B 4. Geri Halliwell 5 Victoria (he voice is cold, even if she sings the notes right but her voice is tasteless, not remarkable)

Anyway, Victoria’s voice reminds me of Andrea Corr. But she should stick to fashion. Mel B was just loud but no tone in her voice. She’s more of an overall performer than a singer. Geri should stick to songwriting instead! Lol
Victoria does have some talent i feel like this was a very bad performance to choose. She's had some good songs, and that one wasnt her best imo.
Mel C tho GOD she's so amazing, i LOVE her voice. Shes one of the best singers around I feel.

Totally agree with your ranking, except I would switch Mel B with Victoria. I just find Mel B being all pitchy all the time along with Geri but slightly better than Geri. And Mel C is definitely strongest and Emma is decent too. Vocally, they’re definitely wayyyy above the others.
Emma and Mel C ARE needed in the Spice Girls
I would say Mel B aswell. Mainly because of her baratone backing vocals in many of the songs such as 'Viva Forever' and '2 become 1' ❤

Mel C or Sporty Spice is hands down the best singer.
I think you're right on all accounts. However, Geri's stage presence made up for it in comparison in Victoria. Saying that I personally did not like ScarY spices persona and Posh was unrelatable by her lack of expression. I think as a group the combination was brilliant, needed, their contrasts in personalities brought the best out in each other on stage and while they all had different tones too, which was good, it was a shame that only Mel C had the talent when it comes to being a singer!
My goth friends LOVED Victoria when we were kids. Dark hair, stylish black dresses and tops, cat-eye make-up, and most importantly, she was demure, subdued, and never smiled.
I predicted your list 100% and agree 100%. Mel C always had the best voice in the group. Her range is better than all of them, she can do it all and has that soul in her voice. Your list is spot on! Of course I love them all!
Best Video so far Georgina! Have to agree with the order Geri is the weakest, Posh isn't much better and Mel B had a good voice but simply didn't take care of it and has damaged it in a bad way. My personal favourite is Emma's voice simply because it is so pretty, easy to listen to and she has a good vocal range but I accept that Melanie C is technically the best singer in the Spice Girls. Bring on June when I get to see them live!!!

Definitely agree with Mel C as number 1, her album back in the day was awesome. Its funny, I never thought of Emma as being a special vocalist but I then I got your comment about her consistency over the years. So yes outside of Mel C and Emma, the rest are poor singers.

I agree with your ranking. Mel C and Emma are the best, Sporty has more power and Baby has a sweet voice, good tone to listen, a calm voice. Mel B was great, but she left that voice, strong. Victoria and Geri are good to harmonize, but nothing special.
I remember being 8/9 years old singing "2 become 1" and my Dad overheard me singing the chorus "I need some love like I've never needed love before, wanna make love to ya baby..." and asked if I knew what it meant. I said no and he told me "good!" As an adult now I remember it and laugh, my poor Dad, he must have been so uncomfortable listening to his only daughter innocently repeating lyrics! 😂😂 Great throwback at the end btw, memories flooding back! Lol 💜
Hahaha, I know how you feel there. I also experienced the same. And now when I've become an adult, I can't listen to 2 Become 1 without laughing or (at least) giggling 😁😁😁👍
Spice Girls were My first connection to English language... I was born during the war in Croatia and I was 3-4 years old when My sister was playing Spice Girls cassette over and over again. I learnt the lyrics in broken English and I remember friends and neighbours being in disbelief when they heard a little girl singing in English 😂
Completely unrelated, but I heard my girlfriend's nephew "singing" along to a Jay Z song a few months ago. Let me tell you, hearing the n word and the b word coming out of a little 8-year-old white boy's mouth was oddly terrifying and humorous at the same time.

So true. Mel C and Emma are the best singers of the Spice Girls, so they are the only ones with musical careers still active today, especially Mel C. It must be said that Geri sings much better today, than 20 years ago !!!
I agree with the ranking, but I still don't think Mel B had a fair audition. All the other spices were singing balads in studio, while she was doing some coreography. It probably wasn't the best clip to compare. Besides it's harder to show the best voice doing this.
I just think as a group they complemented each other very well, you had low voices, dark tones, high notes and sweet tones. They apart sound just not good... 😁

Mel B's lower harmony was actually really strong, particularly on 2 Become 1 and Viva Forever.

As far as they sang when they were in the group: Mel C, Mel B, Emma, Geri, Posh. I’m not looking at how their voices changed over time, but just how they were in the group. Posh was completely irrelevant in the group. Because Mel B could also sing in an alto range, they didn’t need Posh to sing low to round out the tone. And her one off lyrics were vocally bland in comparison. To the others. So for me, Geri was a better singer over Posh.
Emma vs Mel B: I didn’t care for Emma’s thinner voice, and Mel B was the only one who could rap, so she added something special to the group that no one else could.
Obviously, Mel C was always the strongest. Her voice can be a bit nasal, true, but she has by far the most range and strength.
I disagree. Posh is the worst live. Shes flat a lot more compared to Geri 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ Lot less soulful and memorable tone to her voice as well. Geri isnt the best, but her raspy voice is more soulful then vics.

i agree with your ranking except for the fact that i’d put Victoria above Mel B. I feel like mel b’s voice is just louder and screams a lot but victorias tone is better. Out of all victorias voice is my fav even though she’s not the strongest

I agree. I think posh spice could train her voice more if she wanted to but she’s not a confident singer due to being a perfectionist and maybe stage fright of singing live. But finally she’s one of my favourites especially in viva forever and I loved her solo album she should have done more and grew more confident. Obviously fashion was her niche but she has a beautiful tonal voice

Mel C got the strongest & highest voice. Has the adlibs in all of their songs. Though if you watch her live doing Victorias or Geris part (when they were out), theres a lil struggle in low notes.
While Emma consistently sings the melody, harmonies and also provides higher or sweet 2nd voice. Her voice is versatile from high to low notes.
Both Emma & Mel C have the most parts of the songs coz their great vocalists.
Mel B has the lower range 2nd voice, harmonies and some adlibs too. Her sound is RnB so there are some songs were adjusted to her tone.
Victoria is very good in harmonization. If you watch more of their concerts, youll understand.
Geri might have the weakest vocals, her alto voice contributes to their harmonies. You could notice the emptiness in the Spice Concert when she left the group.
Spice Girls were great coz they compliment each other.
I like Geri’s “CD voice”; it’s got a great pop sound after it goes thorough production. She’s good at songs and styles that call for more quirkinesses, attitude and fun.
Mel C is definitely the best singer.
Emma has a pretty voice but it sounds very weak and quiet.
I like Victoria’s tone the best but she doesn’t have the control and power it takes to be the best singer.

She was trained in musical theatre, and it really shows during Lady is a Vamp. Her voice is not a pop voice.
i agree, i think its nice but wasn't really suited to a lot of the solo stuff she was trying to do, like that dane bowers song or dance pop.
@@Nocturne22 She sang Mein Herr by Liza Minelli for her Spice Girls audition and that was what made her be chosen. Not everyone can sing that song. I honestly think she never quite got the recognition that she deserved.
