I have a theory Brad, I'd be interested to know what you think. First, I was in a large Dr's office in the mid to late 90's and he had key framed Sports illustrateds all over the office. The lighting was very bright and the magazines were really faded. Around the same time I was in a sports bar that had framed SIs all over the wall. My thought is, I'll bet a lot of '56 Mantle's got saved but were likely displayed and handled incorrectly. Given Mantle's popularity, I can just picture Mantle fans since '56 throwing that Mantle in a cheap frame and displaying it in their office, man cave, store etc, or periodically digging it out of their collections not bagged and boarded to show their friends. My gut tells me people may have saved them, but didn't protect them adequately and we won't see many nice copies coming out of the wild and anything over a 9 will always be exceedingly rare.
Thanks for the vid! Interesting prices and magz!
thanks brad i always look forward to your content

@@gcxred4kat9 I'd say there's probably some truth to that. Very, very tough to find surviving newsstand copies of vintage SI's in excellent condition.
Sick vid!
@@ferdbirdthenerd Thanks my friend!
Great idea - most expensive subscription magazines
