Hi Phil. Just a quick tip for ya. If you had an alternator instead of the dynamo on that tractor you'd have no trouble starting it any day and any weather. I had a ford 4000 and a 135 and they both had dynamos for charging but when I got the alternator it was a far better job. Good video and nice to see the vintage machinery 👍
Phil there's nothing wrong there, that's how all them fingerbar mowers work. Had a ford/ransom back in the 80s, it was all I had for topping. The thing broke my heart!
Ahh Phil ya brought back special memories to me with the Finger Bar !!!! Christ the sharpening alone took ages and the rivots and spare knives to be kept handy too aswell for when ya were too far from home etc!!! Lad below is spot on by taking off the whole bar to sharpen..... that crank knuckle is worn too on the link bar at the rear (from the pto to the bar).... 4 screws and see inside then as far as I can remember.....(40 yr ago)….????. Pmsl at the flat battery and as usual fella ya say it like it is!! the word "Bollix" is as special a thing to you too iv'e learned lol!!! 110% fabricating job by "the boss" on making up the new prop bar for the road!!!! Jaze lad fine mower and well wear, just watch out for the balls a shite coming over the shoulder when ya leave the field lol!!!! See ya on the next one kiddo!!
I have a #32 MF 6ft sickle bar mower, made in about 1960, enjoyed your video, I use it on my 1957 TO35 Ferguson tractor Wish mine had that bar guard installed when transporting the mower bar, Never saw one of those over here in US, always wondered why as they are a major safety item Good luck and keep your fingers out of the bar guards,
Hi you need to put on your 135 then you can keep some spares with you. Cos you got both tool box's in the wings and a battery grinder to keep the knifes sharp. I spent plenty off time on one off those. I even had the hedge cutter . Wich was nice two stages belt driven done nice job.
I have that very mower, only that bar that drives the blade is wooden on mine, supposed to flex and deaden the vibration. Thinking on buying a 35X myself soon if I can find a good 1. Mowing bar would look a bit small on the 6470 😉
I had a field with a portion of it solid thistles probably only quarter of an acre of thistles mowed it in June and it's come back strong grass no thistles, I think they must be able to be mowed out
i know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Edwin Roger thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Very nice video.... Nice to see the 35 and topper, bring back some memories ! the shot from the camera on the ground was brilliant.... fair play for the choice of music too!! Good luck with the setup for the future!
Phil. Could a stay bar or chain be used to help stabilise the bar when mowing do u know 🤔 When we lift the bar, a lot of pressure is put on the bar when lifting..
I have a 539 IMT I use to use a 7 Ft. New Holland 451sickle bar mower on it . Until I bought a 8ft Gehl disc mower for my 5320 John Deere.. I would use about 1/2 the fuel 3/4 of a gal. with the small 539 IMT 39 horse power and sickle bar mower compared to the 5320 JD and disc mower about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 gal per hr.
@@FARMERPHIL3690 l see she has a steel rod. The one we had had a wooden one. I think they were made of ash. It was like a shear bolt, designed to break if anything got caught

i understand what you mean but we want to keep her original even if it breaks my heart
You lose your Rev clock if u remove the Dynamo from the older Fords!

is your mower a double stroke?

Grate video phill. You needed oil spare blade spacers and files grate memories. Good outfit spare connection rod and SmartBand before your time 👍

it would be a bit out of place on her
I think the wooden drive arm was made from long grain ash...
Handle of a sledge if you’re stuck!

Nice to see the 35x and mower working, I am not far from ross on wye i,m in the Forest of Dean Gloucestershire. Great video Phil, keep them coming
we got the finer bar in drybrook, i remember driving through a forest on our way down
Hi Phil, this brings back memories thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
You had to be careful where you put your fingers when lowering the cutter bar as the blades started to move on the way down.
Sweet job Phil ! 👍
Slow old job with that mower but better than the alternative back in the day a scythe its nice to see it working good on ye

I seem to remember the bar always being tied up with binder twine. This is from driving behind them not experience.
Nice video Phil & thanks for posting
Great tractor, great mower !!
Now Phil lad that is hitting the diff any good topping in wet grass and stuff
Need to take knife out to sharpen. Used to take ages sharpening them with a file.
we have a 35x, with a cab and we used to have that same model of mower, it's in pieces now and not all there
Brilliant job do you have a Tbar and pick up hitch for her

if u were cutting this for silage would all the oil on the finger bar get into any of it ?
Hi would you know how to disconnect the finger bar from the drive.. just bought one there and the bar siezed trying to take off to replace

The grazon spray would wipe them thistles out no boder even at the growth stage they where at
we actually sprayed that ground and more with pasture pro i think it did a fantastic job on the docks but didnt seem to bother the thistles
@@FARMERPHIL3690 it was thistlex it was called remembered after.
Savage Philip 😀
Fantastic to see thanks 👍 👍
Have you a spare connecting rod and blade or 'sections' with you? 😊 ah they were a great little machine in there day!
i have no spares so hopefully nothing breaks, tho id say we would root something out of the old tractor house

Do you gather up the thistles after cutting them ?
no just leave them there to rot
Jesus Phil rember breaking the pitman got sick replacing wodden one's got 2by1 steel box no problems after
Hello Farmer Phil. My Dad just bought a mower by Peirce. Would you know why there are 2 different sized pairs of pulleys and just one belt please?
Can you send a photo of it to me?
@@FARMERPHIL3690 I would but all I have is yahoo mail and utube.
Could you cut rushes with one of them mowers or would it be too much for it
Yes you could once the blade is sharp.
Good 24d and Mcpa mix sorts them
Nice outfit 👍
Only up the road from me
👍👍👍👍
She is great
Clean 35x
Anyone know of anywhere that has replacement fingerbar blades or would it just be as quick to make my own?
The blades off the header of a Massey 30 series combine fit reasonably well
God I had one what a sore yoke to keep it going by a disc mower and never look back
Haha we still you that every summer
😊👌👍
Do not really know that term, on mine the blade goes out/in off the rotating crank just like yours, mine has a wooden pitman where yours is metal,
double stroke means the knife passes through 2 fingers rather than one, just curious as my father was debating wheter the 6ft was double stroke or not
You need go give the massey abour 35 second of heater before trying to start it
the heater doesnt work and i put the engine under pressure from having the lift lever up
Heater plugs are cheep things to buy
I was the 500th like
You didn’t use your heater 😂
she doesnt heat
