Nice old tractor, great job showing and telling 1950 wow. I have a1970 Ford 801 good old tractor. I am resorting it’s to nice to not fix it up love farming,I live here East Tennessee beside the big hills. Thanks again for showing telling see ya next time see ya bye.
Great job showing and telling, and oiling that sickle bar mower. Keep up the good work cutting that grass thanks for showing learning I am see ya next time see ya bye.
As a young kid in the late fifties, early sixties, l remember this bit of kit- it was great to watch this tractor circulating round the field, great memories!
Good video, brings back memories. There's a 732 mower at home bought new by my grandfather in 1965, still have the original invoice and instruction book. When I started out my contracting career many moons ago I used it for topping behind a multi-power 135, then later at home behind a TVO 20 for recreational purposes. Still completely original and intact but hasn't been used for the best part of 20 years.
Great video Dan. Always interesting. I really don't see the necessity for taking out the knife for transport. Once you have guard on the bar, there's no way to cut off your finger. I would like to see one properly set up, knocking a meadow for hay on a nice summer day. It great to catch a glimpse of these machines at work.
Another great Vintage Thursday, Dan - thank you. Brought back lots of memories of my Dad on a 35 with a finger mower. Very peaceful shots of you going up and down, with the engine purring away. I love the smell of TVO. Dad also used an Allen Sythe, same principal, but a lot more walking!
Another good one Dan but if I'd have known you had so little grass you could have come up to Derbyshire to do round one of the fields here as at the moment I have broken the drive link that goes beneath my little Massey Harris to my mid mounted finger bar mower. It is usually perfect for getting close to the walls but I need to make up another link. If anyone is interested to see me playing on it I have a few little bits on my channel under finger mower. Did not know that about stopping the tractor on petrol as mine is straight petrol but my dad did say that to start his fordson it has to start on petrol before switching to tvo so that would make sense. Best regards from the Peak District.
Nice video I have a Massey Ferguson 732 mower and it is nice to see what changed from the one for the 35 to the one for the 135 it looks like they simplified it over the years as there is some things I don’t have on mine it’s nice to see these old mowers going there aren’t much working examples out there because if they have been sitting it can be a job to get them going again
My gramps and uncle had one just like that one you have. My first memories of the ripper as we call it up in Scotland was when I was a boy my uncle was cutting hay with it on a 880 David Brown. It was a fair sight and if the crop was to heavy it blocked and the you had to stop and sort it out. Great video Dan your videos (with the help of your mum) are brilliant keep them coming

Good video Dan 👍 cut a lot o acres o hay with one of them 🙄 always carried spare knives with u an always sharpened all the sections before heading to the field each day 👍
When mowing hay, the “grass Board” that bolted on to the outer end of the bar, was most important to use. It caused the falling meadow grass to lie such that a clearance of about a foot was maintained between the swath and the growing grass. This one foot width was important when cutting the next swath. An angled 2” diameter length of wood, formed an important component of the “grass board”. In some countries, these were known as syckle.bar mower. They are still useful for cutting high grass and weeds under fence wire and will not damage wooden posts.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Damari Damien I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks Dan, Brings back a lot of memories as my dad used to use one identical to that back in the 1960's. They used it to cut all the silage on the 100 cow dairy farm he worked on in Dumfriesshire. It was a slow process and eventally they replaced it with a New Holland fail mower which was much faster with virtually no blockages.
Hi there Dan, great work on the channel, thumbs up from Tasmania. Would love to see you doing mouldboard ploughing with the 35, I could only assume that video is just round the corner.
Brill vintage day vid Dan we had a 35 that had them brackets on the inside of the mudguards it had a od looking cab that fitted onto them when you put the thing on you had be careful as it would trap your fingers between the steering wheel and the cab and if you wanted to lift the bonnet the cab would also tilt on them brackets have you seen one of them strange looking cabs Dan
@@CowfarmerDan the cabs were built by Clydebuilt Products from paisley one sold on Ebay if you put in 174364811356 and then go on completed listings you will see the exact cab that was once on your tractor Dan
Not sure if mower misses a bar out right side that will support long grass when it has been cut and falls to the ground, sort of carries it a little to the left making room for next rounds tractorwheel.noticed that it still has a bar on left side that will support the grass to the right and away from machine.Sometimes the bar is attached with a coil spring on the board which sometimes were made of wood, looks like yours is made of steel.Thank you.
20 yrs ago when I was a kid our neighbour burrowed a similar unit off of another neighbour. Cost him he's life unfortunately, bleed to death in the field. Not sure what he did wrong but take care Dan.
Nicely done Dan. My mate keeps saying he wants to use one on the front of his 411 unimog...I keep telling him buy a drum mower 😂. Have you seen the modern finger bar mowers? Seem to have a few in Europe, they have 2 moving knifes and drive fairly quick!
Most important. you mentioned safety and one of the previous posters mentioned about how a guy chopped his hand and bled out in the field,, Another really important NO,NO is NOT having dogs out in the field or anywhere near a finger mower. Dogs and finger mowers don't get along and if the dog interacts with the mower it can be a very emotional event. TVO was a beautiful smell like 303 gun oil , Some pipe tobaccos and expensive perfume on a woman. The mower needs a swath board.
That knife is really past it"s best it is too worn shown by how pointed it is therefore about a1/3rd of it effective cutting capacity has vanished in sharpening. New sections required I should say!

Big fan on the vintage Thursday videos Dan. Keep them up. They're brilliant!
That’s the first time I have ever seen a guard .Interesting video brings back memories. Thanks for sharing.
Great video as always thank you .

👍👌🇨🇦❤, Absolutely love Vintage Thursdays, well done
love the throaty TVO engine sound. Lovely pictures of the mowing, stirs memories. Thanks for the late evening effort!
Got to make use of the light evenings, they're rapidly disappearing!

Thank you for the explanation and demonstration. Whole nations were fed at one time with equipment such as this.🚜 😷👍

Great video dan, good to see some old machinery being looked after.
You always have a great video for vintage Thursday dan

Nice to see one in action, seen a few of these at auctions but never in the field. Something satisfying seeing it slice the nettles!!
Brilliant video Dan....thoroughly enjoyed it.👏👏
Great video Dan! I've got a tvo mf35 and recently acquired an mf60 finger bar mower, so thanks for the useful tips on setting up etc!
Another great video Dan thanks for sharing
Great vid Dan. Interesting see the old ferguson implements in use. They sure don't make them like they used to., 🚜
Lovely video remine me when I was learning to drive the first job my father got me to do
Great video learnt to drive on a TVO Ferguson FE 35 bought it all back 👍
Great video Dan thanks 👍
Great video Dan.
We have a ferguson te20 with that same mower
Great stuff Dan and good practice with the cutter bar. Hope to have a similar rig myself next year 🚜 ✂️ 🌱🌱

I remember the Massey Ferguson plant that was in the Detroit, Michigan area for years...🚜
We had a red one similar to that, spent many hours when I was a teenager cutting thistles with a 135.
Great video Dan we have a finger bar mower it international harvester one great tips on getting it cutting so well
Congrats on 10k subs Dan
Good to see the old tech still able to do a job. I wonder how many new machines will be fit to work in 50years time? My guess, not many!
Depends how many have a control box and computer screen!
Another great video Dan 👍 could you do a vid on all the tractors on the farm sometime please

@Damari Damien It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Allan Jad glad I could help :D
We used to have one of these or very like it in use with a MF 65 in the late 70s

Ploughing will have to wait until spring 2021 unfortunately Ralph, there is nothing here to plough this autumn.
I always thought these were called sickle bar mowers. Looks pretty lethal without the guard on! Love these vintage machines though. Cheers Dan!
Same thing
I think it's one of those machines that has different names depending on what area you're in.
Nice video Dan was that in ground PTO or engine PTO
Engine
Great vib,is that wobbly front wheel on the fix list,
Yes
Brill vintage day vid Dan we had a 35 that had them brackets on the inside of the mudguards it had a od looking cab that fitted onto them when you put the thing on you had be careful as it would trap your fingers between the steering wheel and the cab and if you wanted to lift the bonnet the cab would also tilt on them brackets have you seen one of them strange looking cabs Dan
I have seen a cab to fit these brackets, but don't have one.

Am I right in thinking you had to sharpen the blade regularly? Amazing to see how far farm machinery has come
Yes, several times throughout the day.
@@CowfarmerDan think my grandad said you'd have someone sat in the field sharpening. 2 if not 3 blades I guess

Yes, it does have a swath board, I didn't need it for this type of mowing.
I should have mentioned it in the video though.
thats a nice tvo 35 what year is it? i just sold a grey and gold tvo 35 to a man in wiltshire this week they un lovely
1958.
I love the grey gold colour scheme, I have a diesel one.
Where did you put the knife going to the field?
It's on the mower frame, you can just see it behind the tractor wheels as I start up and reverse in the yard.
20 yrs ago when I was a kid our neighbour burrowed a similar unit off of another neighbour.
Cost him he's life unfortunately, bleed to death in the field. Not sure what he did wrong but take care Dan.
Yes its a tragedy if you leave your feet out there, not much you can do!
Could do with a little more lead on the bar,
Cut many an acre with McConnel finger bar mower on a 135.
Nicely done Dan. My mate keeps saying he wants to use one on the front of his 411 unimog...I keep telling him buy a drum mower 😂. Have you seen the modern finger bar mowers? Seem to have a few in Europe, they have 2 moving knifes and drive fairly quick!
I've not seen the modern ones, from what I've been told I don't want to get involved in large scale finger mowing!
Try again when the grass is a bit longer
You need to set it better they cut better than that I have never seen bounce that much I use Ferguson mower blow threw grass like nothing
Most important. you mentioned safety and one of the previous posters mentioned about how a guy chopped his hand and bled out in the field,, Another really important NO,NO is NOT having dogs out in the field or anywhere near a finger mower. In my town there's a man that lost his fingers to a finger bar mower letting the blade down
