These videos are very much detailed . Even if you're a slow learner ,you will stand a chance of @ least % 80 of passing your state board. God bless you Patty.
Hi!!!! Thank you so much for these videos. I actually had my exam today and perineal care was one of my assigned skills. The evaluator told me it was one of the most complete and near perfect she's ever seen!! I give all the credit to these videos!!! I wish i could give you a great big hug! :))))))
Yes. The absorbant, plastic lined pads are called chucks, bedpads or barriers. They can be used on a bed or chair under an incontinent patient, on the floor during foot care or on a table to provide a clean work surface. Because they are absorbant, they will prevent water from spilling onto the floor, where it is a slipping hazard. Good luck!
You will wash your hands twice, once at the very beginning, after the opening before you gather your supplies, and once at the end after skill is complete. The washcloth is just folded in fourths and rotated so it is held in a diamond shape. You do not have to change your gloves during this skill. Perform your opening, put on gloves, perform the skill, change the pad at the end, clean your supplies and environment, remove the blanket and replace the sheet, perform your closing. Good luck!
Congratulations! I am so proud of you! We are so happy that you found our videos helpful as you prepared for the state exam. We would like to wish you the best of luck on your new career!
The order does not matter on this point. You may fill the basin with water first or place the chux first. Every situation you encounter in a medical facility will require certain adaptation on your part and having the ability to be flexible in performing the steps of the skill is important. For instance, if the patient is intensely uncomfortable lying on a wet or soiled chux, it would need to be changed immediately. Other times, you will gather your supplies first. Good luck!
Yes, male CNAs must be familiar with how to do peri-care, but in clinical practice, it is often performed by female CNAs when they are available. This is more comfortable for the patients, in most cases. However, male CNAs must know how to perform this skill so that if a female CNA is not available, the patient's needs are still being met. Thank you and good luck!
Yes, there will be a chux under the patient at the beginning of the skill. The care plan will designate this as a "soiled" chux. Because this is a manikin skill, the chux won't actually be wet, you will be pretending that it is because the care plan said it is. Change this chux immediately to promote comfort (no one wants to lay on a wet pad...). Good luck!
Mrs. Patty thank you so much for taking the time to make these helpful videos! I passed my exam both written and skills. For the written I searched free CNA online practice test but I definitely passed by watching these. Thanks again. :)
Soiled gloves do not routinely need to be placed in biohazard bags unless they are soiled with a known blood-borne pathogen. Biohazard bags require additional processing and are very expensive for the facility and should only be used when absolutely necessary. If the gloves have general body fluids and the patient does not have a known infection, the regular trash is fine. (think of your home, do you dispose of diapers, q-tips, kleenexes, feminine hygeine in red bags?) Thanks for your comment!
You are so nice thanks. Hugs and blesses to you Paty . By the way, I passed my 2 tests like 1 year ago already . Ive been wanting to thank you. Your videoa are really helpfull They helped me a lot in order to pass my test i also studied using your videos, my paper, my book and a timer since they only give 30 mins . God bless you.
Incorrect. Patients should NEVER be rolled toward you - this practice puts your crotch directly in the resident's face and places their center of gravity away from your reach, which negatively affects safety. Patients should be rolled away from you after scooting the patient toward you, so they are on their side in the center of the bed facing away from you - this gives you the greatest amount of control, promotes safety and respect's patient's rights. Good luck!
all i can say is that as i was taught the only way your allowed to put soiled gloves in the trash can is if your going to replace that bag with another one and you are going to place the bag with soiled gloves in the bio-hazard container or its corresponding place according to the facility. other than that i found this video very helpful for i am very close to taking my practical exam and i needed this
No. As much as we want to, there will never be a complete division between dirty and clean in a clinical environment. The same pathogens on the pad are on the body that was laying on the pad, so there is no introduction of new pathogens while cleaning the peri area. Stopping to wash your hands is not recommended as it will prolong the procedure unnecessarily and leave the patient exposed for longer than necessary. I hope this helps. Good luck!
You do not want to introduce bacteria and contamination from the outer surfaces of the labia majora into the middle, where the urethra is located. The urethra is very short in females and leads directly to the bladder, which is prime breeding ground for bacteria. You want to ensure that bacteria is kept away from the urethra, therefore wiping from top to bottom, inside to outside is an important infection control principle. Good luck!
I have a question when say top to bottom inside to outside.. you mean always wipe/wash from the anus to back regardless.. never down the back to anus for females
You should not touch a faucet with clean hands or clean gloves because the faucet is not clean and you don't want to contaminate your hands/gloves before you begin your skill where you would transfer those germs to the patient.
I am sorry, I am not aware of CNA courses in Daytona. Every facility will have a different schedule and program offering. We recommend a program that is at least 3 weeks in length to provide adequate time for skills instruction and practice. Call local nursing homes, hospitals and assisted living facilities and ask which programs they hire students from to find a school with a good reputation in your area. :) Be careful, there are a lot of unethical schools out there! Good luck!
How do you make that towel fold, and i thought you was suppose to to change your gloves after washing pt??? if not during the test how times should i change my glove and wash my hand during this skill. You wash your hand twice and use the same glove thru out skill during exam will i be able to do the same??
i do take care of my lady friend who is in a wheelchair i learned alot today from watching several videos including horer lift where in fla daytona area can u take the cna courses and how long is the course im glad i found these videos ill be looking over more of them
Hi, my grandmother is being taken care of by my family. I want to know, should we change her clothes before or after this procedure in the event that she had a bowel movement?
I am starting a new career as a CNA I am employed now at a rehab facility and I was not taught any of these skills???? What should I do I am a PCA now and have to take the state exam in 2 mths . Thank you for all this information. The skills I was taught in the 3 day orientation was making an empty bed and that’s it ? What do you all think ??
Once again, it is different in the skills book provided by you guys and the video. In this video she places the chuck first, then gets water. In the skills book it says to first get water, place washcloths in the basin, apply gloves, THEN go through the Chuck process. Which is correct?
You rolled the patient away from you when you placed the under-pad underneath her. This would have automatically failed me if had I done this on the state exam.
Since this is a female patient, that is not appropriate for this patient. Please refer to the CNA Skills Study Guide, page 111 for information regarding male perineal care (including care of the foreskin). For the exam, this task will be performed on a FEMALE manikin. Thank you for your comment!

When do you do this cleaning?
Hèłło Kïtty hi when it's needed or if there is a time chart for this process. From Trinidad
Thank you. I take care of my mom and it was very helpful in figuring out how to clean her private parts. Thank you so much.
You’re an angel 👼

I have learned during my 16 year's working as a CNA that you do not have that much time to do all those skills you learn in school.
How many skill you have to perform in 30 min?
Depends on what shift one has.
The skills learned in school is to teach you the right way , but u can always subsidize after learning and knowing the basic skills

Hi. I was wondering for cleaning the basin what do I do if I don't have disinfectant?
Great videos.educative just what am doing right now

Great video
Thank You.
Very helpful.
Is a chucks used as a barrier?
Looks like Patt is not talking or may be I cannot hear her. Any idea?
Thank you so much
Bed too low ..cna will hurt her back. Side rails are down..not safe for patient.
This video is very helpful!
Yeah. In Tampa - Florida Medical Prep Location
Well done
do men cna do pedicare or is it just women that do it?
You rolled the patient away from you when you placed the under-pad underneath her. This would have automatically failed me if had I done this on the state exam.
hey did u take your cna exam in fl
That's what I need
So for the exam, will there be a "soiled" chux under the patient before the skill begins?
Use your brain 🧠
@@couchprincess698 thank you
With one hand is hard to do it
In real life they only use two towels
This is an older video however the updated skills video with the correct procedure can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/6Ny4wSUdYNo/v-deo.html
Way you work on bed low position??? Big mistake
This is not good, you’re not supposed to used soap for perineal
Hi pretty
I thought you clean from clean to dirty: when she turned the patient to clean her anal area, she started from dirty to clean: is it correct?
I THINK YOU CANNOT DO THIS WHEN PATIENT IS REALLY INCONTINENT OF BOWEL, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE OR SHE HAD LOOSE BM.
True, I’ve learned that “on the job” which is caring for my 98 year old bedridden mum.
you forgot to mention how to properly peel back foreskin. 2/10 video
Since this is a female patient, that is not appropriate for this patient. Please refer to the CNA Skills Study Guide, page 111 for information regarding male perineal care (including care of the foreskin). For the exam, this task will be performed on a FEMALE manikin. Thank you for your comment!
