As a wearer of a 34mm gold and stainless date since 1986 and being someone who is 5 6 I don't think watch size matters that much. It's how you carry the watch and carry yourself that matters.
I have to comment on this. This is a somewhat unfair comparison as it pits a watch with a mix of medium colors and non-contrasting indices against a watch with striking gold tones and black indices. It's like comparing a black car to a white one parked in a garage. Generally, people appreciate the 35mm size because it offers a smaller dial, which makes it more interesting. There are other two-color options available that cut out and contrast even more. Coming back to build quality, there is a clear winner here. The Yacht-Master 35mm is consistent and flawless throughout its construction. The Date-Just looks more like a rectangular example with a wide strap holder and a fold in the bracelet just behind the case. The key is that it fits well on the wrist, which the Yacht-Master achieves smoothly thanks to the central connector, which is profiled.
I wonder if the real point is that collectors should make up their own minds about what size is appropriate for them instead of blindly following group think.
Agree Clyve. And to me that is what separates true watch lovers and collectors from the mass that has jumped in over the last 2-3 years and knows nothing else than Rolex SS.
Another great video, Christopher, but it’s not so much the 1mm of smaller case diameter that makes it look so small, but the smaller dial. The diameter of the dial is really what makes a watch “fit” or not on a given wrist. That’s why the Sub and the DJ both look equally “appropriate” on so many wrists: they have the same dial diameter. What makes that midsize YM look so tiny is that small dial inboard of that relatively wide bezel.
Not quite true. The dial on the Yachtmaster is much smaller than the dial on the datejust. Also the bezel requires everything else be smaller. It is the equivalent of a 32/33 mm watch
I had the opposite issue with one mm. The difference between the 2018 Seamaster diver 300 wave dial at 42 mm and the 2017 non wave dial. The extra 1 mm of the new watch made it look to big on my 6 .2 wrist. The older 41 prioved to Max size I personally could pull off for the Seamaster. So that's the one purchased.
At a 6.25" wrist size, I have a 36mm which fits fine, and have had a vintage Omega 35mm which worked fine. At 34mm though, it doesn't work (have considered vintage Air Kings, then reconsidered). Same on the larger size - 42mm fine, 43mm maybe, though 44-45mm become unwearable. I agree w/another viewer that it comes down to the dial size, as well as the lug2lug length. Omega PO @42mm great, various Grand Seiko @44mm just over the edge. Thanks for the video.
Would love to see you do a video on the 16622. I think it’s the best value as far as Rolex is concerned right now. Considerably less than the 116622 and the platinum dial on the 16622 is discontinued. They are a FANTASTIC value.
It’s not just 1mm here. The dial is much bigger on the datejust and the larger rotating bezel in the yacht master makes the dial look smaller too. Dial size is s huge factor in how big a watch looks on wrist
It’s all about proportionality so 1mm not really but anything over 2mm for me. Also dial color can impact size, white dials appear bigger than black dials, so smaller watches can wear larger.
it is not the 1mm difference, it is about the design, the bezel size, the bracelet design...., it gives you the impressions a watch is larger or smaller.
Hey there! Love the vids you put out. I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger on the exact same 36mm date just that you own and was wondering what your view was on prices in this day and age. Stainless steel Rolex prices have been on the rise and fluctuations are incredible - just wondering if you think that there’s a bubble - especially when jt comes to the 16234 18k. Any thoughts are appreciated!! Ps: I’m dying to know how much you would value yours at today ;)
So I got a fanatastic deal on my 16234. It came with a full set. Meaning everything it originally came with I got and I paid, 3180 for. I've seen them sell with less for 4.5k on eBay. So I would say mine is worth right around 4.5k and without box/papers you're probably looking at 3.5k. Do your research though. You gotta dig! Cheers.
I honestly dont see much in a 1 mm difference in designating it as looking like a womans watch. I have recently acquired a early 60's invicta incastar which has an even smaller profile. The real destination is all about the watch band and with a few snaps you can easily change most womens watches into a mens watch
Basically 35mm is for someone with small body and skinny bones 🤣🤣🤣 just perfect for me i think 🤔 im very skinny and tall so i think this watch will work perfectly on my wrist at the end of the day nobody give a fuck what watch you have and if it fits right its all about that . Its a one sexy watch ... think big watches look kinda od and really bring attention. This is a perfect low key rolex for 5k less then 40 or 37 version wich in my opinion 40 is bit to big many times found that my watch is getting caught everywhere cause of the size . My sub is completely wrecked so size down for everyday watch is just perfect is a tool at the end of the day not a show off piece 👌 i like to work and use my watch 24/7 Basically make sure it never leaves the wrist ... its a great video but in my opinion you are disappointed that you cant pull that watch off and you suggest is for women and you have to pull that 10k++ compare to 6-7 k . when this days women or men doesn't exist anymore literally or im wrong 😅😅😅 would be nice to see someone in full outfit with watch on the wrist . Its really hard to say how it looks from bad angle ❤❤❤ lovely watch buy it and wear it with pride you got yourself a rolex for bargain 😀 and is ok to wear gold rolex 1989 in size 34 or around this so tacky 🤣🤣🤣
The dial size is the critical factor.
The 1 mm looks drastic because the face of the watch is a lot smaller 1 mm usually is not a big deal if the bezel is small on both watches
I actually think the 35mm Yachtmaster looks fine on your wrist. It comes down to personal preference I guess.

Clyve Watch-Wrangler i think the real point is to try the watch in your wrist and then make a choice

The lug width seems smaller that plays a big part also.
That and like someone else mentioned, dial size.

The 41mm Datejust is big NONO to me. 39 is ok 36 is classy.😀

Great video. Speaking from experience, millimeters definitely matter.
Man you drve a good point , why youtube never recommend this vid I dont really understand.
I think UA-cam changed it's algorithm a bit. Always tough for us smaller channels. Thanks for watching!

Smaller the watch the bigger the ?
Size and age make a difference,if i was young now, probably wear a bigger one.

Yes definitely. One mm can make all the difference.
I don’t love it on your wrist, but it does not look ridiculous
You know what they say about the size of your wrists ...
Christopher you should buy this for your special lady.
I have a small wrist for a man. It looks fine on me.
nice watch just to small for me...
it’s rare, cause no one wants to wear a dink 35mm rolex, gold, platinum or otherwise
You’re not well over 6 feet lol
Daily Times I’m 6’4” but nice try.
It's Complicated yeah right prove it
Go find my Ghostbusters video and tell me I'm not tall.
35mm is ridiculously small - 42mm to 45mm is right in the keester
