Excellent app and service. One missing item: ability to report bad mooring balls or pendants. Today, the line on mooring ball #6 in BVI/Diamond Cay is half destroyed about one foot below the pendant. Probably a prop damage. We canceled our reservation and went to another one. There is no place on the reservation website to report the weakness.
Thanks Alan and Boaty App. Really helpful and responsible work 👍🙏

Hi Allen Enjoy your videos. This looks like a great product when you are on your boat. What happens when the alarm goes off and your minutes from the boat? Thank you
Glad they got this up and running. The Beta was unavailable for Android, so I did not try it out in November when we were here. Looks like they have not mapped out the balls in White Bay on Jost. We are here on a ball and all the pendants are dangerous disasters. I had to dive down and tie directly to the chain because I didn't trust the pendant. They should maintain the balls or remove them so we can anchor. At any rate, we have Anchor Pro activated so hopefully, it wakes me up before we get to St. Thomas if we break loose... Nice to see Boaty Ball is adding value to the BVI!
Hi Alan (or anyone else who might know), what is the difference btw this and other anchor alarms? Love the safety. I used navionics a few years ago and just woke up every 20 min to check the tracker. Not a great night sleep. But we held.
Allen, the BVI is only the beginning, this would be awesome even up here in the PNW or even as far up as the top of Vancouver Island. We get some NASTY storms here in the PNW but it's typically in the wet season, but that doesn't stop everyone from boating out here..... we just put Mustang suits and enjoy liquid, cold sunshine. I'm willing to help get the word out if you'd like. This is a great idea for ANY boater, seamen, weekend warrior & beginner. Let's let technology make boating safer, cheaper (by dropping insurance claims) and like you said "piece of mind" because let's face it, bobbing around on a boat in the middle of the ocean ANYWHERE has it's dangers. Thanks Allen, cheers!
We agree and will be expanding the application outside of the BVI. We are going to need boaters help in order to do this. We are currently exploring ways for boaters to be able to easily add and validate moorings so we can put into the application. Stay tuned!!
Cant wait to test the Boatyball alarm out myself! Question for you and all the followers perhaps- There aren't a whole lot of options getting to Tortola these days, what is your preferred method and do you know the least expensive way from the states. AA flies into Beef Island- most direct, but airline tickets are close to 1K per person. Any feedback from you or your followers is greatly appreciated. I always find myself wanting to pack a bag immediately when I watch your videos!
We do plan on expanding and have already added close to 100 moorings in the Exumas. We are currently exploring ways that users can help us add and validate moorings to put into the application.
I wonder if a style of Talon like the ones used on Bass Boats would save a few boats after breaking from mooring balls? Lower them before going ashore or an automatic deployment. Breaks our ( fans ) hearts loosing the Hillbilly. His App is brilliant. Cheers!
BOATY should come up with an emergency mechanical back-up anchor to drop (or see facsimile) IF a serious movement occurs... Giving you some. time to respond or get help...
It would be more efficient to start collecting the buoys' locations through the users of the app, i.e., "crowdsourcing" the locations. Even if you don't trust the crowd, let the local owners map it for you. There is no reason (unless you are looking for an excuse) to go all the way down to the BVI to map those buoys.

One of the things I like about you is that when you see an issue, you're proactive to resolve it. I wish you and yours the best 2025.
Thanks Alan and Boaty App.

ALAN: At first I thought you said "BOOTY" alarm as you were discussing how to find your ball ⚽ 🤣

Great video mate - hope 2025 is a good one for you. Cheers Swanny

The most cost effective way to get there is flying into St Thomas and taking a ferry. It’s more time consuming but it’s solid and less expensive.
Would be interesting to know if they plan to expand beyond BVI, eg Bahamas and Florida Keys!

Please, dear god, keep boatyball out of the bahamas.
THIS product is good for "boat theft" detection too 💪 Put it on dingys ❗ ESPECIALLY in the damn Bahamas...

EXCEELENT IDEA or design an automatic talon "dropper" if the alarm is activated ????
@@LJ-jq8ogagreed the depth gauge alarm can drop the Talon at draft plus a few feet.

Soooo long no idea how it works im out

Completely agree and is something we are currently exploring and testing. Our goal is to allow users or mooring owners to add them to the application.
ALAN💪❤ is part of the solution for a very serious problem and is now enhancing safety for so many that come after him ❗ ✝
Will his app include a programmable learning module? This could deploy additional anchors, windlass or a Talon
My IPad has GPS, but no cellular capabilities. GPS was an option I went for so I could use navigation.
rich people probloms
Sounds like a great safety. I was looking up fuel usage. Do those engines burn about 15 gph? Just looked at the one I want today. Awesome!!!! Thanks.
