You need to cook the veggies with oil and on a lower temp for longer that’s how you get the beautifully roasted and caramelised

Oil also helps contact cook the exterior of the vegetable - without relying on convection air which dries them out.

to try::: I was told that you should allow frozen foods {veggies} to thaw before air frying, fresh cut veggies should be soaked in water overnight for better results, especially if making Hassle back type of Potatoes.. Items like large sized sweet potatoes, beets, should be sliced thinner, and can be held together in parchment paper wraps to be cooked... In Some air fryers you can add 1/4 - 1/3 cup water in the bottom to prevent dehydration. Sliced avocados and similar foods should be sprayed or rolled with spiced to taste olive oil.

I have this model (but the UK version) only difference is we have a max crisp option instead of air broil, to delay the time starting on the second basket its a sync button and obviously the temp is in C° not F°
A few videos of this i have seen people complaining about the probe not working as it should! Every time i have used mine the temp has been 100% perfect to my hand held probe!
What i noticed is,…….Your not using it properly!……(as well as the other videos i have seen) the smart probe has 3 sensors on it and your only pushing it in from the side to the middle of the meat!……..yes this is how a manual probe works, ……but if you read the instructions it tells you to push it all the way from the side to the bend of the probe because it has 3 sensors and it uses all three sensors! 😊

Great review and demonstrations! Gave a ton of insight that would have been impossible to get from average reviewers lol. I went from being 5 minutes away from ordering this thing to now giving it a 2nd thought. The whole benefit of this design seems to be being able to cook a side and main dish at the same time. Not so useful if it's not that great at veggies.

I have this air fryer and the one thing that I had to get used to was that if you use both baskets you do have to increase the time it takes to cook but you are cooking stuff simultaneously which is better than doing 1 thing at atime where one thing was cold by the time the other was cooked. so I do prefer it.

I'm looking at buying an air fryer. Your videos are very helpful.
I have no experience with them but I do use a convection oven at work. As best I can tell, an air fryer is a mini convection oven.
I roast vegetables 3 or 4 times a month, always broccoli, often carrots. Once I forgot the oil. The moment the broccoli hit my mouth, it's like it was sucking the moisture from my lips and tongue. It was unpleasant. You have to use oil.
Other that that, I roast it at 350°F for about 30 minutes. Again, no air fryer experience but I would expect a similar time with a single layer of vegetables, longer with much tossing if I was doing more.

Great honest review. we recently purchased the ninja dual basket so we’ve been using it now for about one week. We’ve been using the Actifry for many years and which I find that does french fries really well. Set it and forget it in the actifry. Lightly battered food served in the actifry is only good if you have the upper basket so the paddle doesn’t tear it apart. Just maybe this is where todays air fryer may shine.

    • @TheAverageKitchen

Excellent comment. I also had an actify for years. Made awesome fries, but I never cooked anything else in it. I think you’ll find the ninja dual basket, more versatile, but not a “set it and forget it” as it needs a little love to shake up the fries / wings etc. thanks for watching. Marc.

Hi Guys. I was gonna buy this one as it was the same price as the AF400. This one has gone back up in price as I faffed on instead of just buying the thing. Do you think the AF400 is a better choice at the cheaper price than this probe one? I liked the probe one to eliminate the round button (I’m not a fan of that button for some reason) that the 400 has. Cheers as alway.

@@TheAverageKitchen - it’s not a matter of opinion. It’s a simple fact - the governing purpose of an air fryer is to disperse heat somewhat evenly around whatever it is that’s being cooked - offering both convenience and a superior result. If you have to manually mix the fries like this, then it by definition defeats the point. Hence why many air fryers avoid this basket style design.
