Greg asks, “Can we have a moment for the pears?” Yes, we can. In fact, they have my undivided attention. 🍐🍐

As it turns out, perhaps this is nothing revelatory, but Dutch art is legendary for its astonishingly realistic and atmospheric still life paintings. Among “oysters and lemons” ( a nod to the queer poet Mark Doty’s GORGEOUS AND PROFOUND memoir, I recommend to you ) PEARS also get a lovely moment in the scene ! 😊

One of my favorite thrifting finds ever is a (photographic) still life of pears that I found, falling out of its broken frame, in Goodwill for 99 cents. It's beautiful (and now reframed).
One of my favorite eating experiences ever was a perfectly ripe pear with a very young, soft pecorino while in Italy. (Hey … have you and Joel ever been to Italy by any chance??)
I am very interested to read Fire Exit and beyond excited for the new Strout.
Hope you are having a great trip. xo

The problem with watching other book tubers is that it only makes the tbr bigger. Best wishes with what you choose to read. I hope you get some great stories. Happy reading.

So many good ones here. Can’t wait for Strout. The safekeep, in tongues and cinema love are all phenomenal.

My first time at your channel. Frankly I was expecting "the usual" aka talked about 80% the time on BT but now I am so happily suprised !!! Thank you!
Respect to you as I will never read a book with some contemporary cult in it.
I read Girl with Pearl Earring maybe a year or two befor movie came out and loved it. So maybe it is time for a new one.
First time hearing about Cinema Love and other on this list. Thx 💖

"The Patricia High Smith": if the rest of the book is that hilarious, it will be a gem 😄 There's a group of Booktubers planning to read Strangers on a Train, so this could be a Highsmith summer (books not substances, lol).
I Hope This Finds You Well sounds promising. I adore good workplace comedies. Mary Tyler Moore, The Office, and Aggretsko are top notch. 💙
Greg, I feel the same about pears! I've had a couple of delicious pears in my life, but they usually disappoint in some way. But I love art with pears so much I'm collecting images to make an entire pear journal. 🍐😃
P.S. I'm also behind on Strout! Have only read the first Olive and the first Lucy. It's intimidating to think of how many books I'd have to read to catch up!

I’m glad I’m not alone on loving the pears! And also in being behind on Strout. I do hope the Highsmith stays that interesting

I reread the Lucy Barton books and now I'm ready! I'm also planning to get Fire Exit and I'm jotting down The Safekeep and Cinema Love to check into. There's always another exciting book around the corner.

Elizabeth Strout is my very favorite author. All her novels find a way to move me unexpectedly and very deeply. That her upcoming novel is bringing together the characters from all her novels excites me to the core and makes August feel so very far away!

Interesting list. Looking forward to hearing what you think of them. Lucy Barton books are all brilliant on audiobook, it's a great way to read them one after the other.

Taking a break from housework to watch. I’m at that stage of cleaning where everything looks ten times worse than when I started. Hoping you’re having fun in Dublin and keeping dry in the rain.I finished a book last night you or Joel might like.
The Mars House by Natasha Pulley

I thought you might be excited to know that Daniel Black has a sequel to Don’t Cry For Me coming out in January. It will be written from the perspective of the son, Issac.

Thank you, so many great books you have now brought my attention!
Im especially excited for The Safekeep, first of all the cover, second the description sounds amazing and third my partner is from Flanders, meaning dutch-speaking and a belgian-Netherlandish art historian, so im sure i can get another great persepctive on that. I also Need to get The Sisters K. The brothers karamazov is one of my favourite books and this reimagining sounds absolutely intriguing

The publication date for Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout has been pushed back to September 10, 2024. 😊 This is the book I am most excited about for all of 2024. It’s a Lucy Barton/Olive Kitteridge/Bob Burgess crossover event!

Interesting about "The Last Man in Paradise" and 8th Note Press. The association with ByteDance / China is unfortunate. Apparently there are plans for print (perhaps starting with print on demand) but they have a lot of setting up to do.
