You need 4 inches of space all the way around the freezer for the freezer to work properly. The condenser gets real hot on the outer part of the cabinet.
I am doing that but I'm building an external tank to soak in out of a metal water trough for horses. I'm running a pump out of the side of the freezer going into a hot tub pump from a salvaged hot tub that had a good motor and filter but a cracked tub. Little overhead cost . You could use salt water and sand to filter it out like a hot tub

Very informative and a GREAT SETUP!! hmmm never heard of Hydrogen Peroxide!! NO chlorine and then the fish pump thingy runs all the time, right? (that's what moves the water around to keep it from stagnating?) Thanks!

Good video. I have one question. My chest freezer gets an extremly hot surface on the outside during cooling the water down. Is that normal? Does your freezer has this hot temperatures too?
If you're referring to one you initially fill it up, yes that's normal. What I do is add about 50-60 lbs of ice to speed up the cooling process so it doesn't have to run as long.
@@tomkreyssig Also a good idea to cool it down the first time with 'intervals' this way there is less tress on the condenser. Easy to do with a smart socket and program it.

Most of the benefits from cold therapy begin around 2 minutes (@54 F or below) in so either approach can work as long as you're staying in long enough. You'll have to stay in longer if you take the gradual approach though.
Are you still using the freezer as a cold plung. Just curious if it holds up over time and if you would add anything extra to it like an ozone generator

Hey Troy, Thanks for the great video. Do you have to take the wheels off that Frigidaire model due to the weight of the water. I'm looking at one right now at Best Buy.
Does the outside exterior walls of the chest freezer ever heat up on you? I just bought one, and filled it up half way with water. dumped 60 lbs of ice in it, and plugged it in for the first time. the water temp is 46 degrees in roughly 8 hours. However, the exterior walls are VERY Hot to the touch. Has this ever happened to you ?
Yes when initially cooling down the side near the vent/motor does get hot just because it's running for so long but once you have it set a certain temp, it doesn't have to run all the time and won't get as hot.
I had to replace it after a year because the compressor went. I don't think it was related to a leak though. My new one has lasted two years, no issues.

I live in Northern FL. As long as you keep it covered and out of direct contact of the weather, you should be fine.
Did you ever do a video on how you constructed the box, I’d love to try this but not being much of a carpenter I need a plan 😀 any thoughts welcome
No but this is similar to what I built, except I only built 3 sides ua-cam.com/video/A7vQWskmi8Y/v-deo.html
Hey Troy, Thanks for the great video. Do you have to take the wheels off that Frigidaire model due to the weight of the water. I'm looking at one right now at Best Buy.
Yes, the wheels would probably break from the weight of the water.
@@TroyDelaney Thank you! Getting ready to pull the trigger on your Frigidaire. Much appreciated.
@@garycrowley1 Good luck! Any time!
How has it kept us
It lasted 3 years and then the compressor went.
May I ask, how much and how often were you adding the Hydrogen Peroxide.
I don't use H2O2 anymore since I now have an ozone generator but when I did, I used about 32oz every time I emptied out and refilled it (~304 months).
Do you have a link to the ozone generator you use?

How do you drain it when you actually have to change the water since you have the wood framing?
The wood frame only has 3 sides and slides out when I need to drain the freezer.
How do you drain it? Siphon with hose and hand pump?
How has it held up 3 years later?
I had to replace it after a year because the compressor went. I don't think it was related to a leak though. My new one has lasted two years, no issues.
Same model?
@@ryanraddatz5316 Yes
I should note that it has been 2.5 years and the internal white coating is starting to peal away. The best solution to prevent this is to coat the inside with pond shield or use a pond liner.
Gonna get one of these set ups, curious what do you have to seal exactly?
I use this Food grade Silicone sealant amzn.to/38CH56n
But I am testing out a liner and plan to create a video on it soon. Subscribe so you get notified when it's up.
@@TroyDelaney how long has your freezer been running with the food grade silicone. Apparently it doesn’t last and your freezer will leak or get rust or mold inside. What is your experience?
@@taliesalzl3844 Great question! After a year the compressor went on my first freezer. I am not sure if that was related to a leak or something else. I never had an issue with mold or rust. I am testing out a new liner on my new freezer and plan to do a review in the near future so be sure to subscribe so you get notified when it's released
Hi Troy,
I picked up the marine land filter and as soon as I put it in the bath it stops working. I think it’s as a result of the water being too cold? Have you had this problem before? The filter will run for about one minute then switch off.
This is the second filter I’ve put in my bath and have had the same issue. The difference between my bath and yours is mine has big chunks of ice on the water surface.
I add magnesium and Epsom salt to the water so ice doesn't form
What temperature do you normally take the Ice bath?
38 F
Do you run the filter 24/7 or is it on a timer?
27/7 unless I'm in it. It doesn't use much electricity and it also prevents ice from forming.
Note my Fridgidaire just died. I will need to try some other brand due to out of stock at HD/Lowes
how's the silicone holding up?
I've never had an issue with the silicone.
Hi Troy, I just made mine. Any idea why I can't get it cold enough?
I can take several days to get to the right temp, depending on how cold you set it for. Whenever I empty mine to clean it, I add 100-150 lbs of ice to speed up the process.
@@TroyDelaney Thank you Troy!
Hey Troy, nice set up just bought freezer and giving it a go... can you advise how much peroxide you use when you add it and are you using same frequency? Thanks!
I do 32 oz when I initially fill it and 16oz every other month. Replace the water and clean it out every 4-5 months. Video on that coming soon so be sure to subscribe
When you use the Marineland Filter do you use the carbon that comes with it or the polishing filter?
Just use the polishing filter. The carbon is not needed for this purpose.
Does your hydro costs shoot up?
Not really. It only runs a small % of the day
I have the same freezer. When the freezer is chilling down the water the exterior walls get warm (which I know is normal) but the left one does not. Does yours function the same or is something wrong with mine?
That's normal. The compressor is on the right side so it get hotter. I add 100 lbs of ice to mine when I initially fill it so that the freezer doesn't have to run as long which prevents it from getting as hot.
@@TroyDelaney thanks for the reply and the tip on the ice!
Is it normal for the back of the freezer to get really hot. About 135 degrees
Yes, the motor will get pretty hot from running for so long to cool the water. I add 100 lbs of ice to speed the process up.
@@TroyDelaney That makes perfect sense. Ice it is.. Thank you!
Did you seal the drain hole?
I put a gasket that I bought from Ace around the plug but I don't think you have to do this.
So is your drain operational or does the gasket seal it?
What brand EMF harmonizer do you use? Do you have a link for this? Great idea and thanks for the info!

Hey Troy, so does the ink bird thermometer just float in the water? Like the measuring element is water proof?
Yes
