- Samoa's Prime Minister-designate has promised to cancel a $100 million port project funded by China. She says the island has bigger priorities than a brand new wharf. Samoa joins a growing list of Pacific islands that are standing up to Chinese aggression. WION's Palki Sharma gets you the report.

Though a lot of projects were proposed, only the most profitable ones were pushed through. Samoa doesn't need a port that's why they're gonna end up in a dept trap. The guys at NEDA aren't stupid.
The problem with stopping trade with China is who's gonna fill the Gap? I just don't like ignorant people like you. Before we go toe to toe with China, we should improve our economy and military first. Instead of shooing China away, you should push for positive net import export value with China.

When you are in good terms with Australia and New Zealand as all Pacific countries, you can stand up to China. Especially with just 200.000 inhabitants and a major diaspora in the two countries mentioned.

The new prime minister has spines. I worked in Samoan Islands as a teacher for nearly seven years. Generally Samoan people are very independent minded people. They do not allow any outsiders to subdue them in any manner. Great Samoa.

When my father was alive he and his company in NZ - Produce Markets Ltd. - dealt with the Samoan Govt. as NZ agent for their Agricultural Dept. back in the 1960's. He knew the P.M. - Mata'afa - very well. And his wife, Fetaui. We never met Naomi who then was a student at Victoria University in Wellington, as her mother had been.

These countries should have a law that would hold any of their leaders responsible for getting into debt traps. Leaders who allow debt traps should have any such debt stuck onto their own personal necks instead of the country's neck.

I'm a white American man 67 years old. I live in Iowa in the Midwest. About ten years ago I was invited to a HUGE Samoan Wedding in San Fransisco. It was big fun. Ethnic music and dance.
