    Charles Lytle is the man behind mXrevival, and with a lot of help from key companies in the motorcycle industry, he is able to produce some insane bike builds. The “Anihlatr” YZ500 project was made possible by working close with Riley and the crew at BRC Racing in Canada that have introduced a brand-new 500cc engine that utilizes the OEM YZ250 case’s bolt pattern, transmission and other miscellaneous OEM Yamaha items, allowing the engine to be used in a 1999-2024 YZ250 chassis with minor radiator modifications. Pretty impressive! The BRC Racing Canada YZM500 two-stroke engine kit includes everything except the donor YZ250 transmission, which is needed to complete the engine package. It’s fully equipped with a counterbalancer, exhaust valve and billet crankshaft assembly. The YZM500 kit even includes an exhaust system and new outlets for the needed radiator modifications.

    I see 2 main reasons for the void of 2strokes in top level MX:
    1. The 2stroke engine was dropped from all day vehicles in the 1970-1980. Development by racing did not add value for the brands.
    2. 4strokes are more complex to work on for the average Joe, meaning more workshop spending and after market parts. The low cost DIY bikes (and cars) walked out the door.
    2b. There is more total value for the bike producers selling a complex engine.

    I had a 2003 YZ250 I bought used from a guy who had a farm. The bike was rode hard and put up wet and the "red flags" I saw I shouldn't have bought it. But I did and I learned things about this bike that I never would have if it was in good condition.
    Once I got everything fixed I really enjoyed it. I always dreamed of having a 500cc 2 stroke but never considered upgrading it (nothing like that was available at the time).
    I sold it, now I regret it. Want to get another "fixer upper" and the possibilities are almost endless with what's available today.

    Would it be possible to line this up with a 450 and do a few starts? Will it pull a current 450? Why does nobody do this when testing these bikes?

    • @LordSamuelJ
      @LordSamuelJ 8 місяців тому +4

      yes it will pull a 450 easily. These bikes are rare and expensive. Why take the chance dumping one just to prove that its obviously way faster than a 4 joke?

    • @othgmark1
      @othgmark1 8 місяців тому +3

      It will depend entirely on the traction available. The less traction the more it favors the 4 stroke. All of the noise and wheel spin is not generating forward progress. Why do you think a practice start is a high risk maneuver? What are you riding that leads you to make such strong statements with such certainty? By the way you are wrong. I have raced open class two strokes and four strokes which is faster depends on conditions and riding style. Nobody but the very best National riders uses the peak horsepower available from either one.

    • @morley3810
      @morley3810 8 місяців тому +2

      @@LordSamuelJ comments like this are EXACTLY why I want to see it. Too many guys that confidently say stuff that they have no data to support. I can honestly see it going either way. Traction is going to be a big factor, but also just the length of the 4 stroke powerband makes them easier to launch. I just want to see the comparisons to stop the uninformed guessing.

      I have been riding a KTM framed, first generation, BRC500 since 2020, and I have drag raced quite a few 450s, as well as 250 and 300 two strokes. The comments below are correct. If I find traction and hit my shifts, I will win, but the thumpers are more consistent. Honestly, it's worked out about 50/50. Also, 999Lazer has done a video with a BRC500 vs 450 race. Though I've heard from a rester that the new Pro Series Lectron is quite good, just not as aggressive or powerful. Back in the 90's, an early version of the STIC on a stock CR250 was faster than the Honda works bike. This was stated in a mag article, by a pro racer, a Honda test rider.

      All of the BRC500 guys who use their bikes for snowbikes run Smart Carbs. Riley at BRC recommends Keihin/STIC for most dirt applications. The older Lectrons were hard to tune on these bikes, so they are not recommended. I haven't seen anyone try one of the new Billetron Pro's, yet, but they look promising. Really, the hot ticket, is to get one of the KTM framed BRC's which use TBI. They are next level.

      @@brianfl33916incorrect, the manufacturers prefer the more expensive 4t’s, more profit for them. That’s one of the reasons some stopped making them in the first place. Soichiro Honda always hated 2t’s and the company still does. Honda is one that pushed hardest for them to be banned in MX and MotoGP. Yamaha lobbied for favorable rules for the 4t then made the Yzf400. They kept making the 2t, but didn’t spend anything on development for 15 years.

      I would love to see how a yammer 450 handled with a cr500 motor in it especially a older 80s model where the power band would almost rip you're hands off the grips maybe the 450 suspension would mitigate power band whip idk 😮

    This looks no different than watching a 250 or 125. Watching a bike on a track like this does no justice for what this bike is actually capable of.

      Its not a 500, its at most a over bored 250 cylinder,. Probably a 385cc at most. I ride my 86 CR 500 on the REM track (where most of their footage was shot) all the time and it sounds nothing like that.
      Nice try guys, but complete BS - click bait.

      Only the gearbox is 250 which has no affect on how it goes or handles , it has 500 crank and cases , it’s real 500 however if it was a 380-400 it would handle and turn even better due to rotational forces and the reason the original KTM 360/380 came about , modern tech means potentially smaller bore smokers can match anything from the past or any 450 diesel , but manufactures are too afraid of the green brigade to make what would be an awesome bike
