Ben you should put one of your Traction Control presets to 0%, that means you can do massive burnouts on the formation lap & get the best tyre temperature for the start
I remember playing this on the PS2 ages ago and had the pit stops memorised. I think the best I got was 7 seconds flat but as I said that was a long time ago. This was literally the first game I ever played on a console, it doesn't look as good as the PS3 version (the one you're playing) but I loved it. Nostalgia kicks in. Good times!
+Darwiin Ewan the Toro Rosso had a V10 with a limiter on whereas everyone else had V8s, they were quick on the straights but suffered in the corners due to the extra weight
+Darwiin Ewan for some reason torro rosso couldn't a V8, not sure if they got in too late to secure a deal or something, so they had a rev limited V10 to 17,000 rpm, so as to remove the power advantage of the V10 compared to the V8's.
9 seconds? you're dreaming. just go watch some races from that era. pitstop were from 5 to 7 seconds tops. the old pitstop record was from 2004 in 4 seconds until people started to breaking it all day long in 2009. 9 seconds is insane. this time was relevant in the 90's.
+Dimitri Moreira Actually, 9 seconds are about as average as you could get with stops before 2010. The amount of fuel per second you could inject during a pitstop was around 14 liters, and if you didnt want to 3-stop that would mean like putting the nossle in for at least 7 seconds plus around 2 for the tires. Heck, if you wanted to one stop you had to put the nossle in for like 11 seconds or even more
just as an FYI, your laptime for 2nd in qualifying would've put you in 21st in real life although that is your expected grid position in your contract (20th), so it is somewhat realistic in that regards
Can remember my first season on this, is Super Aguri on hard.. no where in the season, pole and win at Hungary, then back of the grid again for the rest!
Please use a wheel. I know only a few work but it would improve the experience so much. Also, we need longer races, 10% last no time. PS On individual race mode at least, you can move other drivers around on the grid and yourself so in single races you can mix the grids
Ben, bringing back these games now brings them to an audience that may not have played them in the past. It's really cool and I hope you have a great season on this!
Ben, you could change steering to the sixaxis motion, the controller would act like a steering wheel. Then throttle and brake are in L2 and R2 which probably is what you are used to.
My childhood. I grew up too late to enjoy the V10 as it was there, but it's still what comes to mind when I think F1, even when following F1 every year.
Thomas Schenck Toro Rosso used a de-tuned Minardi's V10's in the 2006 F1 season. That's why on the rev counter it revs out at 17000 when there are still 2000rpm left
ben advice for the next episode, turn the traction control off so you can do burnouts if you are in the pack back the cars up so you have green tires, and for the fronts turn anti lock brakes off and lock your front tires up it will hear them up asap well done great to hear that rev restricted v10 sound again xD. i have like over 800hours on this game hahaha
I don't think that this game is compatible with the thrust master wheel. I could be wrong, but I doubt it, because it was so much earlier than Bens wheel
+tobi lythgoe as stated above, thrust master wouldn't have had driver support. And it was well before Bans wheel was made. Meaning it most likely wouldn't be compatible with the wheel anyway
You should have started with Midland for an added challenge. Since you're playing on Medium difficulty (I know because of the AI lap times in Bahrain, they do 1:34's in Hard mode), you are going to absolutely breeze through this career mode. The Toro Rosso is ridiculously overpowered in this game, at least compared to the other backmarkers. In the hands of a decent driver, it can keep up with the top teams in Hard mode. By the way, this game really hates corner cutting. It's like strict corner cutting rules in F1 2015, only worse as it slows you down instead of giving you time penalties. The moment you cut a corner, your race is pretty much over.
i always chose STR cause they were the quickest of the 3 beginner teams + they used a rev limited and air restricted V10 engine from 2005 :D ah god old times when F1 games were great.
The interesting thing about the 2006 Torro Rosso car is that it was still running a naturally aspirated V10 engine as the only team in the field - hence the amazing engine sound.
This just motivated me to jump back on this game. I was so bad at it when I first played it because it was my first f1 game. so now I want to restart and see how I do now that I've got some experience. especially since f1 2015 was so easy to be bored by
On the parade lap you have to accelerate and brake at the same time while steering left and right, in order to warm up your tyres. But be careful because of the engine :)
I believe my quickest pitstop was around 5 seconds. I don't recall correctly, there was a time when I was into online competitions so I was really quick but otherwise I was just lazy and had fun. Awesome game and awesome series. keep it up!
Ben, if you come in when you are told to, the pit crew will be there. However if you want to stay out or come in early you must request a pitstop to your team otherwise they wont we ready for you.
To be honest to you, I'm still playing F1 2006 on PS2 (kinda funny but I'm very lazy to buy the new F1 games and I still have a PS2) and that's why I'm still playing it. It is not a hard stuff, Ben. You just need to practice and practice it day by day and you'll be calm with all those kerbs and pitstops and everything. And actually those buttons while you are in the pitstop is just the same. Just press it faster after this and you'll have a perfect stop (about 7-8 secs, 10 is about too long actually). Keep it up, Ben!
This game is 10 years old and it's still good. if they could add some of the features like live commentary, the live pitstop features, the formation lap and safety car to f1 2016 then I believe it's going to be one of the best games that codemasters have ever produced
Your teammate is Liuzzi, who finished 13th. As for the pit stop, I have been able to make pit stops lasting between 7 to 8 seconds, which I pressed Triangle, Circle and X at the same time; L1, L2, R1 and R2 at the same time; and Triangle and X at the same time. However, you have got to be careful about not pressing one of the buttons too early before they appear on the screen, otherwise you will get a red cross and an extra amount of time wasted, such as taking longer to screw one of the tyres. Also, on circuits where the pit garage is to the left instead of the right, you have to press Square instead of Circle. Hope my advice helps you a lot.
Ben, you have to restart your career if you want to change the difficulty up to high. Plus, you got to set the traction control low to do the burnouts in the formation lap.
There's a little indicator shaped like a garage in the bottom left corner. When it's yellow, it means your scheduled pitstop is on the next lap, if it's green - on current lap. Also, beside this indicator there's a number which says how many laps of fuel does your car have.
Tiametmarduk i really enjoyed that career mode of f1 2006 part 1 Earing a drive it was really enjoyable to watch and it good to see all the Different coloured dots on the Circuit map from that year they Should of had that same idear in the 2015 game and in the 2016 game wen it comes out wen ever anyway more f1 2006 please Toon army 141
whaou martin brundle ! in french version there is just a random voice over, while in early episodes like 97 or 2000, we were used to official commentators too.
20% races are good, and they also give you more freedom with your strategy. For instance, you can fuel right up for the latest pit stop possible and defensively drive your way to a 0-stop win with a bit of lift and coast. Tyres will be cooked but they will last to the end (just). Handy if you've a bad car on a higher difficulty level.
this game seems so much more in depth and better than any modern f1 game, if codemaster just created this with there modern driving system advancements the game would be great
That game is so realistic. Codies only can learn from it. Just shows how much more passionate were games back then and not everything was money and taking features from the fans. I really enjoy it, no matter it's kind of a pain in the ass to watch you on a pad, but I guess it's not supporting a wheel.
I like how the commentator just shouts the driver’s name when they crash, and when the player crashes. It just shouts: *IT’S YOU!!*
Akari Kito also shocked when James Allen shouts in F1 06.
formation lap, great lightning and reflections, interactive pitstops and TV-like on-screen display... Codemasters take note PLEASE!!!
true
+ConejoF1 my thoughts exactly :-)
Thinking that too this game with today's graphics and online would be perfect. Love the career aspects too👍
4 months later wish granted
4 years on and now Codemasters are producing masterpieces. I’d like to think a lot of that came from this game right here influencing them.
This game is 10 years old and it's still beautiful graphically (probably more than the last F1 on xbox 360-PS3)
OH MY GOD PS3 AND XBOX 360 I FEEL SO OLD NOW LOL
Ben you should put one of your Traction Control presets to 0%, that means you can do massive burnouts on the formation lap & get the best tyre temperature for the start
#bumpthiscomment
bu you do realise ben will definately crash with no traction control. so the preset should be around 20-30%. anyway my fastest pistop was 4.2 seconds
and the engine WILL blow up
I used to hold the breaks and accelerate. Off the breaks as you accelerate then jump back on again. Rinse and repeat.
+Stuart Guy I just used to slow the pack up and make the guys in front of me wait and fly past them when the lights went out :p
The graphics look way better than I expected
keep in mind that this was an European lunch title for PS3. I bought mine the same day the console launched in Europe. March '07.
great game.
+Ben Daly Why did you say slow to the RBR Ferrari
+aswmdude24 This game back in Europe at least back in the day was meant to be a Killer App that is why it looks so sexy
+siesha iqbal Back in 2006, the Red Bull WAS quite slow. Plus, by the helmet, it was Coulthard driving that Red Bull.
@ToedCROSS awesome
Thing about this game is that you actually look like your going at 300km
sounds awesome too!
10 second pit stop is quick
@@sieshaiqbal3043 is tho considering the refuelling
F1 2006 is the best F1 game, I played it a lot as a child!
9:08, I think this is the first time I've heard him swear haha
Damn, no more "IT'S ALONSO!"
Just wait for Monaco ;)
Someone crashed at turn 4
Looks like one of the renualts
ITS ALONSO!!
XD
Yea it works really well with short names ITS KLIEN!
+Wavy Handles I see what you did there
I had a drive for Mercedes
I remember playing this on the PS2 ages ago and had the pit stops memorised. I think the best I got was 7 seconds flat but as I said that was a long time ago. This was literally the first game I ever played on a console, it doesn't look as good as the PS3 version (the one you're playing) but I loved it. Nostalgia kicks in. Good times!
same here m8
Spoiler alert from ben: still no parade lap on f1 2016
+HekkieGamesNL "Already surpasses MOST of the codies games" Who knows what we will see in F1 2016 :)
+TheIceman22 Passable netcode.
+The Nekomancer HAH
well its actually a miracle.. they put it in there
Well then..
Notice the limited V10 engine on the Toro Rosso
A normal pitstop back then was between 7 and 9 seconds
I thought the v8 era started in 2006
+Darwiin Ewan the Toro Rosso had a V10 with a limiter on whereas everyone else had V8s, they were quick on the straights but suffered in the corners due to the extra weight

10:09 reminds me of Raikkonen's start last year at Monza :)))
I'm looking forward to that moment when Ben DNFs and when he loads the results, the game glitches and it says Ide wins.
Often happen to me
I love this project. Really looking forward to this career mode
Stingy it’s f1 2006
just as an FYI, your laptime for 2nd in qualifying would've put you in 21st in real life
although that is your expected grid position in your contract (20th), so it is somewhat realistic in that regards
Thing is about STR is that it is the Red Bull RB1 from 2005, meaning it's using the Cosworth V10. It's quite noticeable from the engine sound.
Can remember my first season on this, is Super Aguri on hard.. no where in the season, pole and win at Hungary, then back of the grid again for the rest!
This series is GOATED 🐐
I remember playing F1 2006: I got hired by Toro Rosso as a Testdriver, had some fine practise Sessions and was hired by Super Aguri then ^^
How is possible a game made in 2006 to have better physics and feeling more real than a game made in the last years ?
Please use a wheel. I know only a few work but it would improve the experience so much.
Also, we need longer races, 10% last no time.
PS On individual race mode at least, you can move other drivers around on the grid and yourself so in single races you can mix the grids
Ben should do a career mode for F1 Challenge 99-02. Who else agrees?
I agree
It's still the best F1 game I have ever seen
+Oguz G. I'm going to start one in a couple of months once exams are over ;)
oh yes, definitely. best F1 game to date.
Me I agree
Ben, bringing back these games now brings them to an audience that may not have played them in the past. It's really cool and I hope you have a great season on this!
Ben, you could change steering to the sixaxis motion, the controller would act like a steering wheel. Then throttle and brake are in L2 and R2 which probably is what you are used to.
My childhood. I grew up too late to enjoy the V10 as it was there, but it's still what comes to mind when I think F1, even when following F1 every year.
The races have to be 25%. 10% is so short, the longest race would be at 8 laps!!!!!
Change your TCS to 1 in the start menu on the formation lap to do burn outs and then turn off ABS to do lockups to warm up the fronts.
Does this 10-year-old game have better reflections and lightning than codemasters f1 2014?
yes
+Rafa Petterson I think the reason why this game looks so good for its time is because its a PS3 exclusive.
+James G ?
+James G u mean studioLiverpool?
***** Oh. Right
Got psp version on my vita , gotta love the commentary , still a fun little f1 game for doing Monaco on the go
THE V10 ENGINE SOUND!!!!
actually 2.4 V8
Thomas Schenck Toro Rosso used a de-tuned Minardi's V10's in the 2006 F1 season. That's why on the rev counter it revs out at 17000 when there are still 2000rpm left
Ok didn't know i
2006 = the first season with v8
Roy Lemke Lijnsvelt look at above reply. STR used de-tuned V10's from Minardi (also chassis)
ben advice for the next episode, turn the traction control off so you can do burnouts if you are in the pack back the cars up so you have green tires, and for the fronts turn anti lock brakes off and lock your front tires up it will hear them up asap well done great to hear that rev restricted v10 sound again xD. i have like over 800hours on this game hahaha
Can you use your thrustmaster and maybe turn this into another (serious-ish) series where you race for more laps
I don't think that this game is compatible with the thrust master wheel. I could be wrong, but I doubt it, because it was so much earlier than Bens wheel
I don't think the thrustmaster had driver support on the ps2.
+ModelFx it's on the PS3
+tobi lythgoe as stated above, thrust master wouldn't have had driver support. And it was well before Bans wheel was made. Meaning it most likely wouldn't be compatible with the wheel anyway
The most advanced wheel this game accepts is the Logitech G25. Yeah.
You should have started with Midland for an added challenge. ah god old times when F1 games were great.
Love this let´s play. F1 06 was my first formula 1 game when i grew up
i remember that you cant change the difficulty during the career its only when you first start your career with the team trial
4:05 you did your best Mazespin impersonation from preseason testing
Thing I did not expect to hear in 2016 "That Renault is so quick in a straight line"
Really enjoying this play through - one of the greatest F1 games.
Another team would've been nice in my opinion because you have already chosen RedBull and Toro Rosso many times in other F1 games.
but MF1 and super aguri r so slow!! Toro Rosso on this game is basically the 2016 Mclaren
***** on what difficulty?
The interesting thing about the 2006 Torro Rosso car is that it was still running a naturally aspirated V10 engine as the only team in the field - hence the amazing engine sound.
This just motivated me to jump back on this game. I was so bad at it when I first played it because it was my first f1 game. so now I want to restart and see how I do now that I've got some experience. especially since f1 2015 was so easy to be bored by
The F1 cars were beautiful back then. They're nice now too, but these were absolutely stunning. Those rear wings man, those rear wings...
On the parade lap you have to accelerate and brake at the same time while steering left and right, in order to warm up your tyres. But be careful because of the engine :)
Nice stuff man!! I bought F1 2005 and 06 back then , but i must say that 05 really was the best game for me
this game is so much better than recent ones! I love how career works. like if you do really badly they can hire you as a test driver etc
This is a great video, very entertaining! so entertaining that I just bought it. Great video, looking forward to the next video.
I believe my quickest pitstop was around 5 seconds.
I don't recall correctly, there was a time when I was into online competitions so I was really quick but otherwise I was just lazy and had fun. Awesome game and awesome series. keep it up!
The toro rosso was the only 2006 car with a v10 that's why you're so slow in a straight line
Brilliant video Ben!
My fave f1 game!! Can't wait for the rest of the series!!
The graphics are way ahead of its time, oh my god.
you can press R1, R2, L1, L2 at the same time and make your stops faster
I just love how these tv styles, commentators and stuff are so much better in a 10 year old game :D
The sound of that Ferrari V10 is just on point
Time to re-watch my favorite career mode series...again
Dude I played this game all the time when I was like 6. I still remember the happy times I had playing this game
Mid 2000's f1? Yes please, this was the era that made me a fernando alonso fan.
The graphics of this game is still pretty good
Ben, if you come in when you are told to, the pit crew will be there.
"Got off to an terrible start" that's what I expected to hear
Definitely best f1 game ever
This game has all that I have requested for new F1 games, starting from the formation lap
Ben here's a tip to get your tires warmed up on the formation lap: do burnouts and lock up your tires
10% races are waaaay too short Ben.
Such a fun but equally frustrating game. Mid-session saves and no oil spills would have made this game even better.
Hilarious,start with a bang,lights go out and then,what? We're not moving
I like the fact that there is commentating over the race
seriously, i'd play this game over f1 2015
anyway, great vid ben
keep it up
Your teammate is Liuzzi, who finished 13th. Ben, you have to restart your career if you want to change the difficulty up to high. Plus, you got to set the traction control low to do the burnouts in the formation lap.
And when restarting the career... Maybe longer race distance? :)
From your reaction after the formation lap, we all understand that F1 2016 doesn't include this feature for another time!
Nice vid btw!
I fell remembered to my childhood :-D I hope f1 2016 career will be like that....
Just over 7 seconds is a very good pitstop
I cant say I sympathize with Ben spinning out, everytime it happened atleast one wheel was running well over the kerbs and onto the run off area
I played this game on the PS2. Still some of my fondest memories
let's do this. was gonna go to bed but this is an exception
This game has so many features I would love love love to have in F1 games in the future.
There's a little indicator shaped like a garage in the bottom left corner. When it's yellow, it means your scheduled pitstop is on the next lap, if it's green - on current lap. Also, beside this indicator there's a number which says how many laps of fuel does your car have.
I do like having the commentator rather than the pit engineer. if 2016 could have a mixture of both that would be fantastic!
5 years later and this is the 3rd time I'm rewatching fml I need rehab
Tiametmarduk i really enjoyed that career mode of f1 2006 part 1 Earing a drive it was really enjoyable to watch and it good to see all the Different coloured dots on the Circuit map from that year they Should of had that same idear in the 2015 game and in the 2016 game wen it comes out wen ever anyway more f1 2006 please Toon army 141
5.8 sec are usually the best pit stop times
The cars sound better in this than the ones in real life
whaou martin brundle ! in french version there is just a random voice over, while in early episodes like 97 or 2000, we were used to official commentators too.
now THIS is how an f1 game should be! Hope the louder engines return to f1 soon
20% races are good, and they also give you more freedom with your strategy. Nice vid I enjoy watching this... So much nostalgia for me
this game seems so much more in depth and better than any modern f1 game, if codemaster just created this with there modern driving system advancements the game would be great
Räikkönen DNF? Wow, that's something new
Sarcasm
+Aito Minä Moi! :)
+Yohimbe Johnny Hoi!
I've seen 7 second pitstops on this game. You can gain a lot of time by pressing the first three buttons simultaneously.
I've said that this is the best f1 game for years, also happens to be the first ever f1 game I played
6.7 seconds is my quickest pit stop time on f1 ce
Tiametmarduk: The Danger to Society
You need to restart the career to change the difficulty
That game is so realistic. Codies only can learn from it. Just shows how much more passionate were games back then and not everything was money and taking features from the fans. I really enjoy it, no matter it's kind of a pain in the ass to watch you on a pad, but I guess it's not supporting a wheel.
the only bad thing about 2006 is we don't have Spa
