    When the tyre wars was in full swing in 2006, there were several different versions of Bridgestone, as Ferrari had their own bespoke tyres that they only got. Other Bridgestone teams got tyres that were not as good as what Ferrari were using.(I'm not referring to compounds like soft , medium and hard. The whole construction of the tyre was completely different for Ferrari)
    In the end, Michelin were the better tyre. Everyone got the same spec of tyre and the drivers could push hard every lap and the tyres would still offer loads of grip and they were not fragile like the current tyres are in F1.
    I think it was 2006 when there were only 6 cars on the grid using Bridgestones and each team had their own version.

    At that point it was definitely Michelin. I think it was only Ferrari and the backmarkers that drove on Bridgestone tires, so yeah..

      +Harry Verolme (TPT) Debateable. 2005 of course it was Michelin. 2006 it didn't really matter.
      The only reason Ferrari, Midland and Super Aguri were the ones on Bridgestones is because Ferrari paid Bridgestone an absurd amount of money to develop tyres that would suit the Ferrari, And the Ferrari alone.

      +Tom _F1_ well, I'm just going by who won the championships at the time. Ferrari was rather competitive, but it wasn't without a reason that most teams had Michelins.

    The aggression of your warm up affects the grip of your tires. You can still get them up to temp without thrashing them. Also if you turn stability to medium or low you get rid of a lot of the understeer. That being said you have to make some set up changes because I think your car will swap ends a lot.

    Put the traction control on 3 for the race, you're wearing out your rear tyres more and losing time through the exit of slower corners due to wheelspin.

  • @ruvicks079
    @ruvicks079 8 років тому

    Just to note that on hard difficulty it is much harder to even get offered a second driver contract for any of the teams. Passing the targets in an okay way only gets you test driver roles, for race driver contracts you need to destroy the test targets by more than 1 second, probably around 1.5 seconds to be sure.
    Also, downforce makes a big difference for top speeds and a slight compromise will help the balance out the differences in engines. It is also possible to get punctures (shown by visual tire wobbling) if you make light wheel contact too many times, and you can tell the engine health from the car indicator.

    In 2006, the Michelins were really good in qualy, they got they pace and the grip much faster than the Bridgestones. The Ferraris were, until 2005, the only top team to fit the Bridgestones, and they used to struggle in qualy and at the beginning of the races until they got the grip. The positive point was that the Bridgestones were almost custom designed for them, as the other two teams to have them, until 2005, were Jordan and Minardi.

  • @dantheracer16
    @dantheracer16 8 років тому +1

    The gap between the Michelin's and Bridgestone's in 2006 was really close. If I remember correctly the first half of 2006 Michelin were superior and then Bridgestone came fighting back in the second half of that year, which was different to previous seasons where Bridgestone in particular had the advantage or 2005 where Michelin spanked them everywhere except Indianapolis.
    So put simply either tyre choice will be okay given how even they were in 06.

    Funny that you mention Parabolica as being deceiving in this game. I picked up F1 2012 years ago and used Monza as my test track. Parabolica ALWAYS caught me out; either I was too slow going into it or the back end would spin me around. Turns out I just really suck at driving in these games!

    bridgestone tailored made their tires for ferrari (schumacher in particular) in real-life for most of the early 2000's whereas michelin supplied multiple top teams (Williams, Mclaren, Renault). I don't know if there are any differences between tire manufacturers in-game. in general tires were made to be driven fast and on their limits so no dropping over cliffs.

    The used tyre compound doesn't really make a difference. The cars using Michelins overcome the ones using Bridgestones because most of the back markers use the Bs and two out of three of the fastest teams use the Ms.

  • @davidwood3761
    @davidwood3761 8 років тому

    Depends on the circuit in terms of tire type. There are more Michelin than Bridgestone teams. I think Michelin are slightly softer compounds so run faster but it can differ between circuits. Personally I prefer the Michelin teams.

    IRL Michelin used to be overall the better tyres in 2005-2006 seasons, expecially 2005, because they took temperature way sooner than Bridgestone. Schumacher maybe could have made 6th WDC in a row in 2005 but managed to win only 1 race (the controversial USA gp), although Ferrari F2005 was a good car, maybe not competitive as previous years, but still amongst the best. Bridgestone tyres were just terrible, you can compare them to the Pirelli Hards nowadays instead Michelin were like Softs, but still durable. In the middle of the season Bridgestone tested new tyres, much softer and well performing in short stints. Schumacher at that point was extremely fast in the 1st part of the race (even got a pole in Hungary missing from 14 races), but due to the fact that in 2005 tyres changes were abolished during pitstops, those tyres became trash after 20 laps. In 2006 the difference between M and B was still there, but less significant. In the game you see more Michelin cars in the top 10 just because those cars are faster than many of the Bridgestone ones.

    Are you playing with the setup at all? You should have put your gears up further so when in the slipstream you could've got a better run and not max out your revs which hurts the engine and straight line. Also, the AI like to dive down the inside unless you block the inside line into a corner, other wise when you turn in they like to smash into the back of you.

  • @TheWeco
    @TheWeco 8 років тому

    1. No extreme strategy is op. It's better to take more fuel in beginning but not full tank.
    2. Michelin was clearly better in '05. In '06 Bridgestone managed to tie the gap which gave Ferrari a chance to compete with the Renault. So not a huge difference there.
