    Different style of report than I’m used to but still a good report. About the 32 minute mark you said the blood thirster went into combat with the edge of the rangers. I thought (where possible) you had to maximise the numbers in combat.

      @d6wounds  Рік тому

      Yes that was maximised. All the front rank of elves were in combat and 3 of the bloodcrushers.

      @@d6wounds blood thirster didn’t look like it was - anyway, nice to see the report and I’ll now look for others 👍🏻

    It was another fun game Simon. Not my normal style of WE list but wanted to bring a more melee style list, especially vs khorne as thought it would make a more fun game. I will say that I always take the dragonbane items on lone characters. It was the lack of dispel that was more tailored…. (which helped as we were playing +5 lists in the TC comp).
    Some of the reasoning for my dubious decisions. (a) I hadn’t played wood elves for about 3 years so was a bit rusty on how to play them (hence forgot that I could pick the type of wood to get poison in combat and that the guard would have rerolled 1’s to wound too), (b) I forgot about how good the skull cannon was in combat so you charging with it didn’t even occur to me 🤦‍♂️, (c) I don’t normally take a bsb so the eagle rider I tend to use it as additional chaff. It was just luck that your crushers had the flaming banner!
    The double killing blow on the mage was my favourite bit of the game. It was such a cinematic moment!

      Yea those buffs in the wood all stack up nicely to make eternal guard very hard to shift. And yes skull cannons are nasty in combat too, such a good unit - the only unit Khorne daemons have that is underpriced.

    I say keep the Horde throw a hero in it 👻👻👻👻👻👻

      Yea that's an option. I am still not convinced on the herald though - he tends to die very quickly

      @d6wounds Don't forget you can also fan that unit out in a gigantic megaline hem, the elves in on one side because you don't suffer from Psychology.
      Make use of that reform maneuver.
      Sometimes I would have a formation of savage orks fifteen to twenty across to keep them from avoiding me.
      What's funny is when they try to chaff you they give such a formation free movement upon closing the door.

      @@holydiver539yea that's a good tactic if youre up against a pure avoidance list. I've been painting savage orcs too - showcase coming soon..

    I appreciate the battle report(s).. But I still can´t enjoy 8th Ed as much as anything before (7th Ed is possibly the worst edition) or WAP.. These hordes, one mega unit... It is just.. Wrong..
    But the stuff looks great and it is exciting! 8th Ed is just.. It has its issues.. ;) But you geta Like of course, and a comment, obviously. :)

      @@d6wounds You do? Well, that´s cool i guess. :)
      It would have been cool for some version of Apocalypse for WHFB or something.. I much prefer the more old school 5x4 or so..
      it is not "armies" anyways.. it´s company sized or so. ;)
      The sad part of the Hordes is how GW raised the costs, reduced the number of models and introduced Hordes which made it very exoensive for new players and probably had a huge part in killing it. And also took away alot of the tactical aspects of the game..
      Will be interesting what new rules they push for TOW:.

    • @d6wounds
      @d6wounds  Рік тому

      I disagree that the horde rule took away an aspect of the game. If anything it added an aspect because there was now an added incentive to play wide frontages. I go to tournaments and there are many top performing armies with no hordes. Hordes are hard to maneuver and susceptible to big nuke spells and so you don't see them that often, normally only 1 or 2 on each table. Perhaps when 8th edition first came out everyone wanted to take them and it took a while for the meta to sort itself out..@@ja37d-34

      @@d6wounds The way WAP handles it, and frankly most of the rules is just superior though.
      That you can´t even disrupt it.. Nah.. It looks dumb, it plays dumb. (Hordes, 8th Ed)
      The rules is more about selling models than making anything balanced. it is uncritical fan boi thinking not realizing it.
      And part of the problem lies right there - fan bois uncritically sucking up the stuff GW pushes, to sell models via power creep, dumbed down rules and stuff like 8th Ed pushing for more models for nothing than just selling more. Not for fun, not for balance. Just pure greed.

    • @d6wounds
      @d6wounds  Рік тому +2

      If you don't want to buy GW models then just don't buy them. The last tournament I went to was won by a wood elf list with no hordes. Not one of the top 3 army lists from the tournament I ran earlier this year had a horde in it. That's because hordes aren't that good. However they are simple to use, so if you are very dedicated at painting a big unit then you are rewarded with a rule in the game which you can use. In my opinion it added a tactical element to the game, rather than just small units there was now a reason to take a very big unit and therefore more choices for army selection and list building. And of course they look spectacular on the table!@@ja37d-34
