      Thank you for this! When we were kids, I think we had a great ability to just enjoy things and not overthink. Nowadays we have less time as adults, so it's understandable to be a little more picky. But we can't forget that the point of games is to have fun.

    Phenomenal! This is the kind of gaming content I'm looking for as a crusty, nearly 40-year-old who manages to chisel a little time away here and there for the occasional video game. And you're right, you don't have to be an expert in something to enjoy it or be a fan. I love comics, but I'm only lukewarm on most of the super hero genre. That said, there are a handful of super hero comics I read annually. I don't let my lack of knowledge about the overall super hero genre take away from my enjoyment. It doesn't bother me if someone else knows more--that's how THEY enjoy it, and that's cool. I'd forgotten all about Rush 2049's stunt mode. I spent a lot of time there, too, mostly avoiding homework. N64 was my "dabbling" system. I obsessed over JRPG's on the SNES and Playstation, but 64 was for kicking back and chilling. I played the first couple levels of GodlenEye and Star Wars Shadows of the Empire thousands of times, but only completed each game maybe once, if at all. Another favorite was Mario 64. I never got all the stars. Instead, I spent hours launching Mario off various things and just exploring. As detailed as games are today, I've not had that "sandbox" experience like I did in that game. The 64 was great for that. Looking forward to your next upload!

      @humblemudgames  7 місяців тому +3

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! And you're right; the N64 didn't have the deepest games necessarily but it was pretty much unbeatable when it came to sandbox fun, multiplayer, casual experiences!

    As someone who has a lot of opinions that would fit into the minority, I've always felt that it was dumb to dictate what others should play and how they should play it. As long as it's not hurting anyone. And this is speaking in general, not directed at anyone. I'm a guy who has 30 hours on Sonic Superstars compared to the more well received Super Mario Wonder where I have only 10. I enjoy both games, but despite the problems that it has, I found myself returning to Superstars more.
    No matter the game (Again, unless if it's a legitimately harmful or disgusting one) if enjoy it then that's what matters most to me. This mindset allowed me to enjoy games a lot more. That and I don't hesitate and put off things as much anymore. If I feel like I want to play a game, I just go ahead. Considering how many options I have (Which is a lot) it makes it less overwhelming for me. And I just love finding all kinds of different ways of experiencing some of my favorite games.
    That's my ted talk, though. I always have a lot on my mind when it comes to stuff like this.

      Sounds like to me that we're in complete agreement! I feel the same way as you do, and I believe in the video I even say, "as long as you're not hurting anyone, it's fine!"
      I also have had that experience throughout my gaming journey where I actually enjoy the "worser" title of the bunch for whatever reason. I like supporting the underdogs and appreciate ambition, even if it's not always a 100% fully realized concept or success.

    Off to great start!
    I feel like everybody I knew replayed the first episode off doom 93 hundred times and nobody actually finished the damn game 😂😂
    I used to be obsessed with finishing my backlog of games. I used Playnite with HowLongToBeat plugin to sort and group games by playtime. I always played the shortest games first. But then I realized, like you said in the video, that life is too short to worry about playing every game I bought. I felt guilty for spending money on games I never touched, but I was actually wasting something more precious: my time.
    So I decided to play Baldur's Gate 3, and I'm having a blast. I'm on Act 3 now and I've played for 90 hours. I might finish the game after 110 hours or so. My old self would have regretted that I could have completed 8 games in that time.
    But I don't feel any guilt now.
    Who cares if I wasted money on these games? It's not like I went into debt or anything. I bought them on sale anyway. I can think of it as a way of supporting the developers.
    Anyway Awesome video dude and Congrats!

      That first episode of Doom 93 is just such a tight experience, like it's among the best Doom experiences you'll have anyways so if that's all you play, it's still a damn good choice!
      I'm so glad Baldur's Gate saved you from that optimization problem. You got lost in a game and that's what matters. You still have plenty of time to visit these other games you have, and I say that if the time spent was enjoyable, you didn't waste your time. The others that have been unplayed will be there for a rainy day.

    For me the solution is not to buy excessive amounts of games I "possibly might wanna" play. Although I've fallen again, I bought lots of 360 games. Dirt cheap, but there's already around 5 games I would want to play immediately and it somewhat spoils playing just one ;)

    • @humblemudgames
      @humblemudgames  4 місяці тому

      I understand what you're saying and can see how the choice of multiple can be worse than having just one in front of you to focus on. I look at things like having a library. Or thumbing through the shelves of a Blockbuster or something. I don't put too much pressure on myself, I just go with my gut and play the game that sticks out to me the most for a given weekend. I don't advocate buying excessive amounts of games but I think ignoring a game you want, especially one at a deep discount, because you have others you need to trudge through first can lead to regret. So looking at your collection as a library of adventures waiting for you to go on is a lot more fun than viewing everything you have as an anxiety-inducing backlog battle in my opinion. Tackling one at a time like you do or doing it my way, either is correct.

      @@humblemudgames I think this topic of "game enjoyment" is interesting. Because somebody could say that "if you don't find games fun, don't play them, you are adult anyway, games are for kids, this topic is absurd" ;)
      Here's the catch though. It's my life problem that I can't find much joy in anything. At some point, I make everything I do, feel really bad for myself, because of my perfectionism.
      Then I also have problems with "completing things". I start stuff, then I can't finish it. I'm even a bit lazy to watch a movie or play a game. So actually trying to enjoy games or trying to complete them, by fighting against my perfectionist nature, is somewhat good exercise for me.
      I play RDR1 now. I do the side quests, but as soon as I feel meh about them, I go back to the main story. Before I would foce myself to clear everything. I don't read any guides, any tips. Just taking the game the way it is.
      But I still can't play any RPG game that starts with character stat creation. Because it activates min-maxer in me.
      So... Playing a game like that, making a shitty build, would be a good exercise to get used to the feeling of not playing optimally ;D

    loved this video, tho I was expecting the topic to be a different kind of how people view playing a game "Correctly"
    how people percieve that you're not playing the game right because you didn't use this control scheme or you didn't do this during your playthrough
    biggest example is the From Software community and how if someone cheeses a fight, they're then ridiculed for not doing it the "real" way which is the tried and true dodge roll and swing your sword.
    a youtuber I'm subscribed by the name of Shinigamieater posted a video talking about this very thing and he highlights how people are playing Elden Ring's DLC wrong by quote "using the broken things to make the fight easier"...as in utilizing the mechanics the devs actually put in the games and people are upset that the one person had an easy time against a hard boss using a great shield and a spear. I was baffled by this, for lack of a better word, Gatekeeping behavior. how dare someone use the systems and mechanics the very devs put in the game to reward you for exploring and getting stronger. how dare he cheese the fight with a tactic combining these two weapons and spells, how dare he have an easy time in Elden Ring.
    so that was what I was expecting this video to touch upon, but I do see what you were conveying regardless. I just wanted to let my thoughts out on the subject I thought this was gonna be. tho who knows, I might have helped you by giving you another topic to make a video on.
