thank you for this video. Your methods of removing the old seal with a screw and using a pipe to drive on the new seal are brilliant. .My 2002 F350 manual transmission with manual 4WD has 375000 miles on it now. I am replacing the clutch in a few days. I am now ordering the seal from Amazon. Have you ever had to use an Input Shaft Repair kit KPBZ73HD on any ZF6?

Yes I've used the fitzall kit with the wear sleeve. If you check out my zf6 swap video you'll see it there. Works like a charm. Has been in my truck going on 3 years and running strong.

Got this same problem now about 3 or 4,000 miles later after the clutch, flywheel and rear main seal were done at a big Ford shop...leaking trans lubricant out of the vent hole on the bottom and didn't even realize that seal could and should have been replaced. Crappy part is the transmission has to come back out and they didn't sound real interested in doing that and kept telling me the same thing that the transmission had to be taken apart. The ridiculous thing is that they also replaced the rear/output seal on the back (2wd trans) because IT was seeping, so on higher mileage units that come out it might be a good idea to just replace both the rear main on the motor and the input on the trans proactively as long as the input shaft itself is okay to reuse.

Even if the snout on the input shaft is worn the Fitzall kit with the wear sleeve and oversize bearing works like a treat. I'm running that kit in my truck just a preventative measure to protect my input shaft.

Did he mention a part number or did I miss it? Edit:
Input shaft seal part number 15818
    Edit #2
The original seal is a 40 55 7 seal (measures out to 6mm)
You should be able to take those three numbers to a store that deals with seals and they can find you the correct one
But the seal in this video is a 40 55 6 seal
    (measures out to 5mm thick)
I ended up using it anyways, hopefully it works out alright

@buildingsalvage At a minute in I show the box for the new seal. It was an skf 15818. It's been in there for over 2 years and 30k now, still sealed nicely.

@@mikewrenchin1735 glad to hear it! I installed the same one and drove the truck for the first time today. Stoked to have it back in action.
Doubt 1mm of depth is that big of a deal for a seal that’s held in by a plate and 3 bolts.

The guide sleeve on mine is worn bad, I'm assuming from a bad throw out bearing. Any idea where to buy a replacement?

I'm not sure where to get a new one no, you may have to just scour the internet for one, or see if any of trans shops of wreckers have a transmission laying around that you could steal one from.

Yes. Have been daily driving the truck ever since and not so much as a weep.
