My Band played on the same bill with these guys in Chicago the year this song came out. I listened to it over and over. I approached the singer who told me "it's about Jesus." Best gospel rock song.
he was joking. the song is about insisting that someone loves you when they barely know you exist. similar to material issue's valerie loves me. i would expect another musician to know that.
That may have been a joke then, but since, Josh Carterer rediscovered his faith, formed the Christian band Duvall and when Smoking Popes perform again these days, he doesn't hide his Christianity.
Wow can't believe I've never seen this video!! What a nice surprise. Been listening since i was 14, and im 43 now. I saw them in miami during reunion tour. Best night Ever!!
@@howtomeetwomen- "For the final encore, Josh walked out with a black acoustic guitar. He strummed it a few times. “This is a little love song,” he announced. “It’s my favorite Smoking Popes song, actually. The song is called ‘I Know You Love Me.’ It’s a song about my relationship with Jesus. And that’s what I think about every time I sing it. Because it’s the most significant relationship that I’ve ever had, it’s transformed my life.”"
This band is ok, not a huge fan of punk rock but its alright. I am researching music from Elgin and Aurora area in Illinois. I do wish there were more bands that came from that area because doing the research is a pain.
Check out Groovy Love Vibes if you haven't heard of them. My mom was around the whole Elgin scene in her high school years, and her cousin Danny was in GLV.

@@JOHNTHEWHISK he wasn't joking.
Been 100% in love with this band since the 90s.....melodic masters
One of the most underated bands in pop -punk even other genres and this sounds even better inj 2021 puts alot of music to shame
Easily the cleverest, whittiest, most melodic, and rockinest band of the 90s. An inspiration. Raymondo. x
Hard to believe I’ve been obsessed with this song for over twenty years 🥲

Huge thank you to Bayside for bringing me here!
My favorite song about Jesus EVER!!! Still, these guys are one of my all-time favorites.
Sorry my man, this song came out in 1997, Josh didn’t become a Christian until 1998.
@@joshualemay9120 I think Josh himself said it's about Jesus? (Citation needed.)

They were the best ever.
I would watch the popes once a week in concert if could
This is the best shit since the beach boys. Fuck of a melody. It's so simple, yet so clever.
Back when I was cute, I landed my husband to this song.
Clearly, you are still cute.

Goddamn what a great song!!
Simply put......just to kool
masterpiece
Yeah love this song
amazing!
i just discovered this song and absolutely loved it, but it has exactly 666 likes and i don't want to ruin that, it hurts
Can’t believe I missed this band back in the 90’s. They sound a bit like Weezer!!!
You mean, Weezer sounds like Smoking Popes? xD Smoking Popes was there before Weezer.
@@chrisjericho9632 they were pretty much contemporaries, the time difference is negligible and this song came after weezer's 2 biggest albums
Check out the early recordings from the Promise Ring, from Milwaukee. You will like.
Years ago I heard once on radio. No one plays the good classics anymore. I guess they don't make the stations money. No more Miley Eilish for me.
is there not a parity of this still? fuck you internet.
+Grover Asylum fake and gay
Where did they find someone that smoked in the 90's?
Everyone smoked back then.
