Thank you for not editing the switch placement part of your video, but letting it play through in real time. It made me feel better for those times when I'm trying similars repairs but it never goes as smoothly, quickly or simply as the automotive "how-to" videos... 😄!
From a computer tech standpoint, you may want to see if you can get the floppy led to turn off and flash at various speeds and intervals like a true floppy when reading a disk
Oh, this restoration is a piece of proper work! When I saw you try and fix the switches, I was actually twisting my fingersto help you. And yes, it looks luxurious and properly Kitt-like. Wonderful, Joe!

Looks good 👍 I have a guestion. For some time, I've wondered on what are the origins of the startup-sound used through out the series. Im not talking about the beeps or turbine noices, im talking about the V8 start sound. Every V8 has a unique sound to it, and im almost sure the sound we hear in the series is not from the pontiacs used. Of course I might be very wrong.. 😅 In remember that somewhere in the series theres a scene where we can hear two starter sounds at the same time, the sound effect and the actual trans ams starter. Any ideas where the original starter sound is from?
The pains of being 'screen accurate' :) VERY nice work though and i bet those who used to make these for replica enthusiasts are drooling. One thing though why use wood for that bit of extra support ,would'nt something out of solid hard rubber be more beneficial (less noise and not so solid on that fragile fibreglass?)
K.I.T.T. has got everything and anything, I thought as a kid. Feature set to accommodate every need you could think of. There was always a button for it or one could just ask K.I.T.T. to do it for you. Question: Does this wondrous machine have an A/C and an adjustable vent to cool the drivers face?
If it was me, I would have added some height so the spacer would not be needed to support the dash. Making more functional screen accurate parts would be my reasoning 😂

Hey Joe. I’m building my second Knight rider replica in over 20 years. I was wondering if that center console you pulled out would happen to be available for purchase in my KITT? I’d be honored out of your car in mine.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial hello I sent you an email. I actually sent you two emails. The second email will have my correct phone number because I’m a dummy and gave the wrong number in the first email lol. Thank you again.
We Should have A David Hasselhoff Exclusive Revisit once the Semi is complete and Roadworthy and let Him drive Kitt right into it, would be a Milestone after 40 Years since the First Season was Made.
Whats the plan for the old center console? Maybe a KARR replica? Or I was strangely thinking of using a 92 trans am and making a kitt 3000 or something.
The Lower console looks fantastic and perfectly orginal! Thanks for the eleborate guide, but also for the kind words for the fairly accurate replica you had in the car before. Just two remarks: First: The Floppy light should not glow all the time, as it would only light up when actually reading some files. Anyone who ever used a floppy drive would find that glowing all the time irritating. Second: Not only the red, yellow and green buttons should stick out a little bit (and it would be great if they were a little movable to be actually pushed), but also the ALPINE Radio buttons! These ALPINE buttons were absolutely iconic back in the day with their frosted look, but they have to be rectangular all around, sticking out about 2 mm. As can be seen on the screenshot of the actual movie scene you provided! Maybe you could find an original ALPINE Radio for reference. And if you are super nerdy, maybe you could find someone who makes you a real working ALPINE display with an MP3 Player attached, that KITT could remotely activate by voice command. Okay, just playing when any button of the radio is pushed manually would work as well. With some Knight Rider Soundtracks on it...
Should the floppy drive red light be always on? They usually only light up when the drive is being accessed, unless the episodes show it always on when they film the interior of the car. OCD is a biatch, I think I also have it but only in very small doses, because I'm also very picky about certain things.
Is there anyone or anywhere I can get accurate measurements of dash and upper and lower consoles. I would like to be able to create my own before I commit to purchase thx , great video on lower console , great channel luv it!
@KnightRiderHistorians Have you ever considered getting several frames and rebuilding the interior for each different season.? Maybe cutting off the nose and tale for portability.
Hey, Knight Rider Historians ! - Did you realize, that a lot of the songs used in the knight rider series were not the original songs, which you can buy nowadays ? - It looks like, a lot of songs were (re-)/(pre-)recorded just for Knight Rider to be used in the series. They sound quite similar, but they are different from what is supposed to be the originals from that time. Did you already hear about this ? It might be an interesting topic to follow up...
If you can remove that factory panel (with the fake Allen screw heads) you probably could easily fit a functional radio in that slot....And since that panel was never seen on screen, you won't lose any accuracy points by doing it. The problem, and the reason very few manufacturers orientated their stereos in that way, was because of the flywheel of the tape mechanism would have been in a different orientation than the stereo was designed, and it would cause the tape playback to have excessive "wow and flutter" and inaccurate tape speed during playback in a moving vehicle. Not to mention the increased risk of foreign objects falling into the tape mechanism (cigarette ashes, coins, dust, etc)...Plus the added weight of the cassette itself on the eject mechanism either with a tape resting in the ejected position, or the additional force required to eject the cassette after playing, so very few manufacturers mounted cassette players (or even radios) in the orientation in regular road vehicles that they might have to repair under factory warranty, especially since most auto manufacturers don't make their own radios, and instead purchase them from electronics (radio) manufacturers. If you do decide to install a working stereo in that location, you'll probably want to make a foam/rubber plug to cover the cassette tape cavity, so no "junk" ends up falling in there if people are going to sit in the car, or maybe just get the radio portion of the console to "light up" and display a radio frequency (or actually tune without actually outputting any audio) For bonus points, you could hide a small MP3 player under that panel and use the "fake radio face" to control the MP3 player (and old ipod?) filled with different versions of the Knight Rider theme, or sound clips from the show...That'd be awesome! Even though it never happened on the show (that I remember) it'd also be cool to have that bank of random lights flash in a random pattern, much like a lot of the panels on Star Trek (even though it's another sci-fi show, I think the technology, and the ridiculousness of that proposed technology seems to fit the asthetic. A simply lit panel that doesn't seem to "do" anything just kind of seems boring....I know it wasn't a huge part of the storyline, but in my mind, I always imagined that there would be a lot of flashing and blinking lights in a car that could essentially fly on demand, and was impervious to literally anything, and could carry on a conversation with the driver, while driving itself, etc.
This is what I came here to ask about. Being a 1986 Camaro owner (same lower console), I noticed this lower console add on actually covers the stock parking brake lever location. I'm guessing they just don't bother setting the parking brake.
One thing I never understood was why they tried to do a reboot with a Ford mustang worst idea ever would have been awesome with the latest firebird trans am the one they showed with Taz in the commercials

Perhaps make a short harness so there is easier access to the window switch connectors.

Hey there Knight Rider Historians the window switches should have had some pigtails so that it would be easier to reconnect them back up
He could always poke the plugs and wires through the holes, install the console, then plug the switches in and clip them in their holes last.
That wont work, the window switches dont fit with the plugs in place first. That's the way it is on the factory Trans Am console, too.
